The 9th "circus" court of appeals gets overturned something like 90+ % of the time, so when it gets out of California, and into somewhere other than the left coast, it will most likely get overturned.
As my "regular" light burn out, I've slowly replaced all of my incandescents with compact floresent lamps. Not for the enviromental reasons though LOL, I just hate changing light bulbs!
They've come down in price that make them more afordable. The energy savings is a sideline benefit though:)
Anyone old enough to remember WKRP? The episode in question was when there was a bomb threat, and the DJ's went to the transmitter building. There, Johnnie Fever smashed a phone to pieces when he couldn't reach his bookie. Unknown to him or Venus Flytrap, there was a bomb hidden in the toolbox he used to smash the phone with. Later, Johnnie (in his drug induced paranonia)heard all the sirens, and said, it's the phone cops! Flytrap says what? You know, the phone police, they are here to bust me because I smashed the phones. Flytrap: are you nuts? Fever: Oh come on Venus, the phone company knows everything.
Sounds like the RIAA is now the new "phone cops"
LOL
I've been in the photocopier business for 22 years. The last two generations of photocolor
copiers, that we sell, have had "black boxes" that we no nothing about, no documentation in the schematics as to what they are. We were told in
school, that these are to lock out any attempt to
copy money, unless you are below 50% of the original size, or over 150% of original size.
It is suppose to pop up a 1-800 number to call to unlock it, but to date, no one in our area has had to use it. No one is stupid enough to try to copy money. Afterall, the government dosen't like the competition LOL
Heck, I wouldn't call it wasting time. It's a "LEARNING" experience!
Everytime I fool around with my computer, mess it up, then fix it, allows me to fix my friends computers even FASTER. Others ask me why I try to break my computer. Easy answer....if I can fix what I break, odds are I can fix what they break.
Kudos on kidney stones! The headaches from withdrawls are NOTHING compared to the kidney stones. One ER nurse told me when I was in the ER at 2 in the morning that a man with a kidney stone is as close as any male will come to experiencing labor pains. Gee....thanks for that bit of information.
I haven't had a problem with them in 20 years, cutting back on Mt. Dew, increasing my intake of water (BIG 32 oz glass in the morning and 32 oz when I get home at night), plus, I use an herbal suppliment...cranberry capsules. Just to be on the safe side. Never had a flare up since.
If the polling companies would go out of business, I would be the first to throw a party. I'm so sick of the news media, be it Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, Drudge using polls as "news". If they would get off their butts and actually go out into the world and find out for themselves what's going on, instead of using a poll, we'd be better off. How is a "sampling" of 1000 people, in a nation soon approaching 300 million a good "snapshot" of America? It isn't! Plus, they can skew the question something like this: If you had a choice between raising taxes, or going without gas for your car, which would you be in favor of? Then, on the nightly news, they report that a majority of Americans are in favor of taxes. Yeah, no kidding, with a question like that, who wouldn't want to raise taxes? But, like the idiots that still rely on the network news as their ONLY source of information, they will believe what they see, and not THINK FOR THEMSELVES.
You would think, that the RIAA, instead of spending zillions of dollars, and man hours trying to track down every 80 year old grandma who's grandaughter/grandson ripped a few MP3's from a P2P site, would spend a few hundred dollars setting up a 99 cent download server of it's own. Heck, with the catalog selection they would be privy to, there would be an endless stream (no pun intended) of people downloading music.
I've had XM since may of this year. I wouldn't go back to FM for nothing! about 80% of the time, I'm listening to XM46 Top Tracks. I've heard songs there that I haven't heard in years. Also XM40 Deep Tracks. I have NEVER heard on the radio the live version of Edgar Winters "Frankenstein", it was around 20 minutes long! Try that on FM....they can't do it. On FM, they have to interrupt the COMMERCIALS for a couple of minutes worth of MUSIC LOL
$5,000,000.00 isn't enough. That is, if you
have now gotten comfortable with the "rich" lifestyle. Hummer, 3 houses, 2 boats, a plane
and a partridge in a pear tree...
NASA made the mistake in the late 60's when they deceided on going with the shuttle instead of continuing development of the ELV's. The saturn V had NO failures during missions, and only 1 engine cutout (Apollo 13, 2nd stage). Heck, Apollo 12 was struck by lightning!
The problem with the shuttle, as it flies now, is that it is too expensive, and it getting old.
The "original" design of the shuttle was for a piggyback arrangement in which the shuttle was taken up to a high altitude by a "mother plane" and then launched from there and the engines would thrust it on into orbit. But, they found out it would be easier to use the solid rocket motors, and we all know what happened in 86.
We only care about the weather for the next 4 hours. Why? Because ESPECIALLY in the winter, it will change 2 or 3 times a day LOL. Seriously, I feel sorry for the weather forcasters here (southwest Mo), there have been times that the weather has gone from: sunny 60+ degrees, then cloud up, rain, then thunder & lightning, then at the SAME TIME it is thundering, we get hail, freezing rain, sleet, then change over to snow! There have been times, that we've had all of those, PLUS a tornado!! The only weather we haven't had here is a hurricane!!! The old line we use around here, and it's true most of the time (except for summer)....don't like the weather, just wait, it will change in 5 minutes...
Trust me, putting the 911 button like that IS a pain for 911 operators. I am one. If people would THINK before dialing 911, we wouldn't be so busy answering stupid calls. Over 40% of the calls we take are cell calls, and I'd guess that 75% of those are wasted calls. We at the 911 call center know when there is a wreck. All the phone lines start lighting up. I've even had a 911 call reporting a wreck 20 minutes after the fact. I asked the caller, isn't the police there? She said yes, but I didn't know if you knew about it.
HELLO.......McFly......I'm the one who TELLS the fire/police where to go.
911 is a victim of it's own success. For 20 years, we've told people call 911 call 911. Heck, they call 911 like it was 411 now.
I quit using floppies a couple years ago, I quit using zip drives last year. Flopticals I gave up a lot longer ago (windows 3.11 age).
If I need backup, it's to DVD, for floppy type
applications, I use a pen drive, keychain drive,
or whatever you want to call them. EEPROM flash
memory is my choice for portable storage.
I just wish these stupid anticapitalist/socialist would just shut up, sit down, and do something constructive. Most of these idiots have NEVER had a job in their lives, just living off the expense of taxpayers with research grants for junk science like this. Grow up, get over it and get a job! Be productive, and quit with this chicken little crap. Drink coffee, no don't drink coffee, eat oat bran, no don't eat oat bran. Stay away from popcorn, no, popcorn is good for you. Get it? Remember the R12 freon crap a few years ago? Now that it's banned, and no one has it, and R134 dosen't work as well, lo and behold what do we find? Gee, we were wrong, R12 dosen't cause a hole in the ozone . Ummm, it's been happening for centuries, and we've only been monitoring it for a few decades. Whats a few decades in the LIFE of planet Earth? Something like a few miliseconds.......
Yeeeeee haaaaaa.......if the bacteria is on the
surface of the cell phone, and of course "everyone knows" that cell phones cause cancer, mayber we are going to have the bacteria mutate into a 3 eyed fish from the radiation coming off the cell phone? Yipee! three eyed fish.....yummmmmmmmmmmm
I'm in my mid 40's and remember the space race quite well. I remember when the Apollo program was scrapped for the shuttle. I said to myself why? The shuttle just orbits earth for what, a space station? The Apollo booster was the only booster to never fail in flight (Apollo 13 lost center engine 5 on the 2nd stage, but kept going).
I wish they would have kept developing the Apollo and kept going to the moon. We went there, picked up some rocks and QUIT. We should have started EXPLORING the moon. Just think of all the interesting things we could have discovered with todays technology on they moon.
At least the cash strapped Russians parked their white elephant and only flew it once. The shuttle is 70's technology that is just getting too old.
Apollo, or any other ELV can be modernized...
I've had a license for almost 20 years. I use to use it almost everyday, to keep in touch with family and friends. Around town in the late 80's we had phone patches setup to make short phone calls. Cell phones replaced that, the internet and email replaced keeping in touch with family and friends. I've kept my license up "just in case", but hardly use it anymore. I think the FCC is going to be selling off some more band space (they already sold parts of the 220mhz band) to
make some money. There are a lot of businesses who would love some of the prime bandwith that for the most part is going unused. Unless there is a way to generate massive interest in the HF bands, I think amateur radio is on the critical list...
I for one will sever my using Windows if they don't at LEAST tell you with a yes/no prompt that a service patch needs to be installed. I don't have a problem with a pop up message telling you that there is a service patch available, would you like MS to install it, but, if it were completely behind the scenes, I'd have to say NO. I don't put all the patches/updates in, because most have to do with outlook express and IE, BOTH of which I do not use, so why would I want to choke my ISP by installing useless stuff? At least give us the option of saying no.
The greed of some people will cause some to fall for this one. The Nigerian scam has been in the news for months, and still some people fall for
this scam

extremely greedy

Know we know why they filed suit......boost the price of stock, dump it, then back out of the suit.......gee, what a concept!
I wonder if this fortune 500 company is either: Global Crossing, WorldCom, AOLTimeWarner,Martha Stewart Inc, Tyco, Ikon....et al..... LOL
