Since On-Star uses an ANTENNA mounted on TOP of the car, couldn't the thief just take some
tin-foil and cover up the antenna, thus disabling communication between the car and the satellite?
More likely, the agreement with Apple, for AT&T to promote & sell the iphone probably says that they may promote
& sell, but they CANNOT alter or modify anything on the phone, unless approved by Apple.
Personally, I believe there are two types. English, in its proper form,
and what we here in the states use. I think we talk "American" English.
Plus, depending on what part of the country (USA) you live, you can have
a different dialect.
......._. ........_. .
Back in the "good ole days" when you could walk into a
Radio Shack, ask someone for a certain type transistor,
capacitor or some other component, and get a response
such as "it's right over here". Today, go in and ask
the same question and they will ask you if that is for
a wireless phone, or better yet you will get a huh? or
a deer in the headlights look.
Radio Shack.....you've got questions, we've got the wrong
answers.
I see he learned a VALUABLE lesson in the art of backup. NEVER store your backup at the same
location that your drive(s) are located, unless it is in a fire/bomb proof safe.
They will continue to wonder around as if nothing is wrong.
I love the line that "Kelly Bundy" said one time when Bud told her
you get more flies with honey than with vinegar. She responded,
yeah, but if you pull their little wings off, they will eat anything
you give them.
My first programmable was the TI-55.....I've still got it somewhere.
I remember when I went to take my first class FCC license, they made
you take the battery out and turn it on, just to make sure you were
not "cheating" with some preprogrammed code.
When I run across a wi-fi with the default logon, I change the user/password, set the renew/release to
10 minutes, delete the users if any. HOPEFULLY when the stupid user asks a friend to find out why his/her
computer is knocked offline all the time, they will put a user/password, lock it down with MAC addressing
and turn on all the security.
It just amazes me that people think those fancy do-dad wi-fi boxes are like a toaster. Just plug it in
and turn it on.
You mean the party in power will end up taxing "the poor" (whoever they are) I can't believe the
democrats (or republicans for that matter) would lie about such things?
Idiots.......that's what politicians must think of us, and to a degree they are right.
We keep putting the same dumbasses back in DC, to the tune of a 90+ reelection rate.
Until we (the people) get fed up with these "lifetime" politicians, kick their sorry asses
out, kill off the K street lobbyists, it will never change.
How close is your closest neighbor that has broadband? If within an nominal range,
why not use wi-fi and some of those long range antennas you see built online?
I agree with you on your comment, but, unfortunately you are posting on a site populated by
nutjobs on the left (democratic underground, huffington post, dailyKOS)
These nutjobs have such a HATRED for anything that does not have a "D" behind their name that
they will flame you relentlessly.
It's been interesting watching my oldest nephew "grow up".
In his teens he was a DIE IN THE WOOL liberal...to the point
my mother said that there will be NO political discussions
at family gatherings (I'm conservative). The older he gets
(he's 31 now) the MORE conservative he becomes. In his
teens, he was for MORE taxes, MORE government. When he got
out of school, & got a JOB, he realized that even thought he
made x dollars an hour, the government took away 1/3 of his
paycheck, then the state government took some more, healthcare
took more. in his late 20's, he bought a house, and here
was the government with its hand out for more money.
That's why, to me, young people, who live at home, don't have
any "expenses" have a more liberal slant to their views.
Do in part to the brainwashing they receive from government
schools, this just reinforces their "belief" that liberalism/socialism
is a good thing.
When they get out in the REAL WORLD and come to the realization that
you need MONEY to survive this world, and the government takes & takes
& takes, it causes a reevaluation of their belief system. They
figure it out (if their brains are not so polluted) that liberalism
(to an extent is a form of socialism in a political sense) is not
a good thing to survive....unless you want to drive yourself MAD
trying to believe in a failed view of the world.
Socialism breeds LAZINESS. Why should you work harder than the next
guy, when it does not matter, because everyone is "equal"?
The only way to better ones self is to try to be better than the
next guy, which causes the next guy to do better and so on.
Look at all the achievements in this world that were caused by
the drive to do something that has not been done before.
Capitalism & conservatism should go hand in hand. Unfortunately,
the current crop of so called Republicans, in the last 6 years,
acted more like liberals in their spending habits than the liberals
EVER did. They want to know why they got handed their heads in the
06 election? A LOT of it did NOT have to do with anything associated
with Iraq. It was because of all the pork barrel spending they did,
along with thumbing their nose at the constitution.
Everyone expects everything to be free. Free health care, free food, free education.
Tax the rich, they can afford it bla bla bla.
Too many have been watching way too many star trek shows where everything is free.
Welcome to economics 101....things COSTS MONEY.
What this means, in simpler terms.......is that the cell phone carriers association hasn't been
giving enough money to politicians, so, they will introduce a bill which could possibly threaten
their stranglehold on the market. When the carrier association ponies up the money, watch how
the bill will either get watered down, changed, or just simply disappear. After all, 08 is an
election year. Watch all the "pro" consumer bills that will suddenly pop up, only to disappear
and fade away early in 09.
how nuclear weapons worked, maybe they wouldn't get so worked up about this. Unless a set of instructions are handed off to the weapon in the proper sequence, it wouldn't matter what you did, the weapon would not go off. They would have to punch in the PROPER code to arm the missile. Even if they were practicing a "war game", the code they entered wouldn't be the proper code to make it go off. If the weapon were launched, and it flew a "mission", upon impact (most likely a test range in the desert) the only thing that would happen is that it would bury itself in the ground. As with anything, fear is usually caused by humans lack of knowledge of a particular subject. Once you understand how something works, it will usually take the fear away. But, there are a lot of "peace lovers" who could understand 100% of anything connected with the military, who, would be against anything associated with the military. Funny though, if it wasn't for the sacrifices of the military over the 200+ years of the USA, they wouldn't be able to protest anything.
With the public demanding longer and longer use times for laptops, the LiOn battery makers are going to try and squeeze more and more into a given space to meet the demand. With the tolerances for errors in battery design shrinking, it doesn't take much to set a battery pack off.
Here's an idea. With every new laptop, give them a coupon for a free fire proof safe! Instead of the safe protecting the documents inside the safe, the safe will protect your HOUSE from the battery stored inside the safe. LOL.
Adolf was having an affair with Emilia Earhart, who had a baby out of wedlock with Jim Morrison of
the Doors, who kicked out Elvis, who was really a transexual lesbian, who secretly was the foster
child of Jimmy Hoffa.........and on and on.......LOL
Of course, anyone that knows anything about hacking, already knows how to get around
the WGA servers. Although a business really "can't" do that, but, I guess if you
were really mission critical, you could do it until they figure out what is messed
up on their WGA servers.
The Wright Brothers, Glenn Curtis, Robert Goddard.......all pioneers.
Go watch some video of the early days of NASA. Some of the rockets blew
up on the pad, or exploded when they hit max Q.
It happens, and will happen some more before they work the kinks out.
Hell, look how long the shuttle has been around! And it STILL has problems.

I've been in the office machine business for almost 26 years. I've seen techs come & go, and,
for the most part, the ones with all their degrees etc, usually can't find their way out of a
box. When I teach a class on a new machine, I MAKE them take a written AND practical test.
I purposely screw up machines with 4 problems and give them an hour to find the problems.
Not off the wall screwy problem you would never see, but, practical problems I've seen in the
field. I put "customer screw up" type problems in the machine, along with what I've seen over
the years break.
Not only do they have to find and fix the bugs, I make them write out the step(s) they took to fix
it. They have to write down what the problem is, what steps they took (including the service manuals)
to test, and what part(s) they thought were messed up.
This is the only way I know they learned what I taught them during the week.
I've seen a lot of people who can pass a test easily, but can't fix anything.
since I'm in the "document" business, I'm seeing more and more people (thankfully)
going from a fax, to using email. A lot of multi-function-printers (MFP) have the
ability to connect to a network connection. You can scan to email, scan to fax
and also reverse it, printing what needs to be printed, or, fax to a "fax email"
box, which would be networked, passworded so the intended receiver has access to
the fax. Look at the document, edit, forward, or print, or simply delete.
Scan to email, obviously, is a LOT faster than a fax. 20 pages on a fax, can,
depending on the quality (or lack thereof) of the phone line can take 15-30
minutes! With an email, it is almost instant.
and beginning my senior year of high school when those were
launched.
For those of you too young..........we had PONG and THAT
was it! No cell phone, no internet, no video games.
Telephones had these things called rotary dials. You couldn't
call someone in another city, sometimes, without going through
the operator. There were only THREE kinds of gasoline.
Leaded (for the older cars), diesel, & unleaded. We didn't
have the 5-6 types of unleaded, JUST ONE.
Cars costs an average of 5-8 thousand dollars BRAND NEW.
Of course, they fell apart, looked like boxes, and were
noisy. For music, there were a couple of FM radio stations,
most cars had AM, some had FM, and if it was REALLY fancy,
it had (get this) an 8 TRACK TAPE player.
Oh, we walked up hill 10 miles to school in the snow every
day...both ways....LOL
After all.......do you want your fate in the hands of 12 people who were not smart enough to get out of jury duty in the first place??
Since On-Star uses an ANTENNA mounted on TOP of the car, couldn't the thief just take some tin-foil and cover up the antenna, thus disabling communication between the car and the satellite?
