True, Newton is generally regarded as the father of calculus, although there is evidence that Archimedes, Eudoxus, and the Egyptions did some work involving integrals.
"There is a structural reason for that: Video games by their nature require player choices, which is the opposite of the strategy of serious film and literature, which requires authorial control."
So undermining the authorial control leads to something not being a work of art? Are video game designers not 'artists' because they cede this control to the player?
Elitist asshole. Go masturbate intellectually more.
Heh, you can't powerlevel up a character in L2 to the point of godliness quickly... the maximum level is 75, then you subclass...
It takes about 1 week nonstop to bot to 40 with full buffs... if you do it right...
Then, you can reach 52 in another week and a half. 61 in two weeks. This, of course, assumes you bot full time and don't get caught.
1/4 the community in Lineage 2 bots, though, and most of the community is high level beacause there are not enough new players entering the game.
L2 has a real bad grind... not the worst... but bad.

Really, they need to set specific times for events/ village raids/ plundering to ensure it working. Otherwise, it turns in to people waiting for everyone else to log so they can destroy.
Just make sure to set some of these specific times at the same time (so a single clan cannot destroy all villages) and make sure that time for other events (such as the march of whatnot) doesn't interfere with other events.
Actually, since the prices are similar, a better analogy would be:
Would you rather buy a good, reliable, fully loaded foreign car? Or a similarly priced, poorer quality, American car that just happens to have a bit more horsepower but lacks all the cool inside comforts?:D
That's why apple Keyboards have an eject button.
No apple keyboard? Then you probably don't have an apple mouse, so just right-click and hit eject.
No apple keyboard but still using ol' one button? Use the finder.
There is a difference between killing someone who 'is' a real person, and someone without a real-life name or story attached.
No, I'm not trying to be "patriotic" or anything here. I'm just saying there is a fundamental between killing people with randomly generated names/faces/etc and killing a 'real person.'
I would say that it is a low in the gaming industry. Hell, it doesn't matter if it was JFK. I would be appalled if people took the names of veterans who died in the war, and placed them back in their situations only to have you kill them again.
Yeah, I must not have been thinking when I wrote the "decent end" stuff, though.
In my opinion this is the lowest the Gaming Industry has sunk to.
A game in which you re-enact the killing of JFK for yourself? And have the option of shooting civilians?
While other games may have assassination and killing people, but usually there is some decent end you achieve. This, on the other hand, is pure garbage, the game that legislators will be looking to when trying to 'tone-down' video games.
I can safely say that this marks the beginning of the end of trying before you buy, whether it be a movie, a CD, or a piece of software. I guess this hurts the people who actually used BitTorrent to be exposed to new artists and cultures.
Actually, I'm a Mac alpha tester, and the game really is good, albeit somewhat buggy. But what are you to expect for an alpha version of a game? I believe beta is coming soon.
The game runs smoothly on my three year old mac, which is more than I can say for some other games. Of course, it won't be comparable to other RPG's until its "finished" (of course, the game will never be truly finished, the idea is to keep making new parts of the world)
Not to sound like a racist, but everyone learned the hard way with US and China on the same server. Typically, people from China would try to "own" their own areas in the game, and this would piss of US people who want to hunt wherever they please, e.g., some Chinese players would "dual-box" (playing two comps at the same time) or even more, (its obvious with 6 chars named XXXXX01 through XXXXX06), and take up an entire zone to themselves. Botting, macros, you know the drill. You couldn't argue... many of them couldn't speak English, or were bots. Others had high level "enforcers" used to kill people who tried to enter their zones.
Also, people from China became synonymous with selling items on ebay, and were dubbed "farmers." So it becomes this perpetual war between farmers and "real players." It inspires hatred and nationalism (bad nationalism, in this case).
There is also the 'time' issue: It's night in some places in the US when it is dusk in England. This really screws up server maintainence. What time do you shut the servers down: Primetime in US or primetime in Europe? You end up screwing someone over.
I look forward to beginning WoW, and not having to worry about this. Sure, I will miss some of the diversity, but I won't miss any of the hassles.
This research article just seems to be flamebait and highly uncontrolled. Hell, I could give you papers from the Mac users at our school and compare them to the PC users and the Mac users would win by far. A computer does not influence a person's style of writing. If you were to get a good, large group of students, you would see that the results are flawed, and that Mac users would tend to outperform PC users.
In my experiences people who actually earn their own money, tend to be more intelligent than people who survive for the rest of their life off of someone else's money.
Unfortunately, until the day where a computer is anywhere in your reach, this idea isn't practical at all.
Many hotels offer complimentary high-speed internet access to people with laptops; providing a computer would just be a waste of money- the initial investment as well as maintainence and updates. If you really need to do work on the go, you probably already have a laptop.
Use the remote that came with your iPod, and run the line out from that into your car stereo. Then you can tape the remote to your steering wheel, and put your iPod in the dashboard, where it covers up something you don't really use. Then you can look at what song you are listening to whenever you want, and also control your iPod from the steering wheel.
For many, myself included, using CAPS LOCK is a waste of time, when you can use shift instead. Holding down shift makes you feel powerful, and no, it doesn't affect your typing style if you learn how to do it correctly (such as typing A and other letters that use the pinkey)
Also, in word processing, you might as well use the "ALL CAPS" option. If you decide you don't like the CAPS, you can just deselct the option, instead of retyping it.
CAPS LOCK is a waste of my time and yours, and to answer the question, its dead... for me at least.
Its kind of a lose-lose situation. With more regulation it turns into a game of "whomever has the most money wins." You need to find a balance, not the communism the pamphlet is spreading nor the "Big Brother" scenario.

Selling stuff online is against the l2 eula as well...

Awesome! When this happens, I will truly be able to live in my car!

2x 2000 2.37 PowerPC G5 I think the parent's observations about this being misleading and varying system to system, OS to OS are very true.

Indeed. Even on the lowest level setting it is near impossible for an amateur. Any explanations to why it is so?
...is that Apple brought back that cool tile-unscrambling game from the pre-OSX era!
