NT was their death, they sold standard Intel based systems at their superawsome Unix workstation prices. Supercomputing made sense for the company as their really high end installations came close to being that anyway.

As for not having done anything in years? The fact that Linux can run on huge Altix machines and clusters is directly a result of SGI doing the work. Same with Linux running on MIPS and XFS on Linux which they still submit patches for. They might not be the 'OMG SGI' they were once but they haven't been doing nothing.

Why yes, I do like my little O2 here, and I do like using Irix. If only I could get my hands on the latest version.

Yes they are. A lot of the kernel contributions are now done by people paid to do so. Neither they nor their employer have any interest to fix device drivers that they either don't use, or are in competition with them.

The lone kernel programmer working and contributing code out of their own good will or some moral conviction are becoming the minority. A lot, maybe even most, are contributing to the kernel because they are paid to, and only contribute what they are paid to.

SE doesn't make big announcements when they ban people to placate the masses like WoW does so you never know how many people have been banned over the course of the game. That announcement was made because things had gotten so out of hand so quickly this past christmas that they had to let their players know they did something about it. However, christmas price increases are not strange.

Egyptions did own slaves, so there was a concept of workers being property. As for their treatments at the build site, they were alloted good amounts of food and beer, given days off to attend weddings, birthdays, and when they had a hangover from drinking too much of the aforementioned beer. They weren't slaves and they weren't treated as such.

A huge building project to the Pharaoh was the perfect way to keep the plebs from revolting during the off-season while they waited for the Nile to flood again.

You also cost taxpayers more with no return on their investment. Ya it sounds nice that you got to go play, but school systems have a budget. Since 'gifted' children were going to turn out just like every one else there is nothing to justify spending more on them.

Saying there are 10(base2) types of people in the world those that x and those that don't isn't counting. I'm saying, and mean there are TWO types of people, not 3 because I started counting, but 2(base10) because I am stating an absolute value. Try and buy tires for your car by asking for 3. You asked for the right number of tires right? You want tires 0, 1, 2 and 3. Have fun driving out though.

On top of that you do not always start counting at 0. Think back to number systems in elementary math. The whole number system starts at 1.
