Thanks for the info! I actually found this out after playing with Picasa more. Now I'd like a burn-to-vcd/dvd feature that doesn't require a computer to play.
I found an article that highlighted some of the hits and misses in Picasa.

I agree mostly with the lacking of a hierarchical labeling system being a miss.
Also, I've used iPhoto a fair amount and I find Picasa a bit easier to use.
However, I'm hoping that the updated iPhoto will do better.
I found a free cap at a local So. Cal Detention Center (jail--dont ask).
I've looked through iTMS and couldn't find a single thing I wanted. Now if the cap was good for a free audiobook that would be a different story.
I tried looking through iTMS' exclusive lists but still nothing enticed me.
I am glad to see this. I've been very happy with Charter overall. I use them for both Digital Cable and Internet services. They even recently boosted my downstream speed for free from 768kbps to 2mbps as an apology for any inconveniences (none) that I experience while they upgraded their systems. Thumbs up for Charter.
Who wants to see Harry turned into a hairy troll or forced to gallivant with foreign literary figures?
I DO I DO!!
LIke the top poster and the article mention, these aren't copies of Harry Potter and Rowlings case is weak.
It has limitations, but wireless is wireless. As the article mentioned IR has limitations...but it's stuck around to an extent. I wouldn't mind seeing bluetooth integrated into more home electronics/appliances.
but I think he could have done without (and saved space) the floppy drive, the zip drive, and the CF reader(?). Add some lighting under the plexi and it'd be awesome:). Like everyone said the color could've been nicer but this is still a nice looking mod. Had I the courage, the cash, and the skills I'd try to make one myself.
I didn't mean to post it yet. I didn't finish or proof read. Anyhow, I believe that a few Satellite providers off PVR rentals as well, such as DirecTiVo. Once you use a PVR/DVR, you are going to want one for your very own!
We just traded our cable box for a PVR through our cable company. We got an integrated PVR/cable box with a 40 hour hard drive, and almost no DRM - we can record everything except pay-per-view. They even let us spit stuff out onto tape if we want.
How is this different from TiVo/REplayTV? Actually, I think TiVo/ReplayTV can record PPV, you just can't transfer them.
All for $5 per month. (JOY!)
SO you're renting the device. Once you stop service you probably have to give it back. Maybe not a bad deal but I don't know if this makes you the luckiest guy in the world, and most likely aren't the only customer with this provider using a PVR.
Looks like APEX is joining the bunch. This also includes a DVD player, or rather this DVD player includes a DVR. I don't read anything about a service fee either.
I would be wary of buying one simply because the future of the service is in jeopardy.
That is some horrible information there. I am not worried about my ReplayTV service that has not had a single problem since my purchase last year. If you haven't heard/read, ReplayTV was purchased by a good company, D&M.
Anyway, yeah, it'd be cool to have some kind of software solution to all this (preferably Free software), but as it is, it just doesn't seem feasible, mostly because TiVO hardware is cheap and a large part of what you're paying for is the guide service, anyway.
These are mentioned everytime a TiVo/ReplayTV article is published, do a Google search for MythTV or SageTV
I'm sure many RTV owners will agree with me that having the ability to send shows over the internet is pretty pointless (it can take hours to days to send one). That feature is probably rarely used my most.
Don't be so sure. Have you ever seen the communiities started to share shows? Try:
I've sent and recieved my fair share of shows over my Cable internet and have no complaints. I just set it and forget it. I record enough shows to keep myself occupied while I download other shows. Now I don't have to kick myself for missing the season finale of my favorite show(s).
Now Commercial Advance is a nice feature, but it only works on about 1/2 of the shows I watch, and on that half it doesn't work flawlessly. It wouldn't kill me to lose this features, but it is one of the reasons why I bought a Replay instead of Tivo.
I, too, purchased the ReplayTV for the CA. Mine has worked from the start. It works flawlessly on 80% of my recordings. Another 5% works with glitches (skips too far) and the times it doesn't work the 30second skip works like a charm.
And for those who don't know, you can do a X minute skip by typing the number of minutes on the keypad and pressing skip. 3 + Skip works well to skip over a lot of commercials.;)
On 4xxx machines I believe the button on the remote is JUMP. This is another feature I have grown to love.
"But I'm not telling exactly how I achieve the effect."
I thought the article took care of this? The diagram and description didn't describe how he achieved the effect? This is a cool device though and I wouldn't mind trying to put one together myself.
Is the conjunction needed after the semicolon? I'm inclined to say no, but there might be some obscure rule of which I am unaware.

Is the design based on a living organism?

How do Neilsen (sp?) ratings work?
I thought the data for the neilsen ratings was gathered from set top boxes distributed by the neilsen company.
if the Ad companies that save/make money off of this technology paid for my monthly service fee.
Key figures: Read the article for the other figures. It shows how its divided up 5 ways.
that the artists should be attacking their own labels...not their fans.
Burn? Wouldn't they melt really? I mean I can see Books burning, but ebooks? Hmm

So quit grousing and don't buy em. My thoughts exactly. Just. Dont. Buy them

...they'll stop asking for my zip code!!
MercExchange will use Ebay off its patents. BID AWAY. ;)

Does TiVo skip commmercials? I thought that was RTV. Anyhow, it bothers me slightly that they say TiVo when I think they really mean PVR's in general.
