Funny, I got my first Windows PC (A 486DX running Win3.1) because the guy that had it owed me $100 and had gotten it full of malware and didn't know how to fix it.
I call BS on that! Malware/Spyware didn't start becoming a problem until around the year 2000. At that time, most consumer PCs were still running Win98, 98SE, and the occasional WinME. It was usually bundled with shareware programs (Limewire and other P2P apps) and downloadable games. The other vector for getting them was when using Internet Explorer.
A few things about Win3.1 and Malware/Spyware doesn't add up...
1. Win3.1 home machines had between 4 and 8 MB of RAM maximum. I suppose you could add more, but SIMMs were expensive in those days. I seriously doubt a single instance of Spyware running could fit in that space (let alone along with the OS).
2. Malware/Spyware was coded for the Win9x shell and created entries to the registry hive. Win 3.1 did not have a registry hive nor was the GUI (Explorer) coded the same. Also, the installers were not cross OS compatible between Win 3.1 and Win9x to my knowledge.
3. Almost every Win 3.1 box on the internet used Netscape. At that time, you couldn't get Malware/Spyware over the internet.
New or used PC, download and run The PC Decrapifier Below is a list of programs it will remove. Very simple to use.

God damn! I thought I was the only one (a special case). Where I work, we must log our time in 15 minute increments too. It's to split up what is billable to the client, and when I'm not billable, but instead having to account for internal office policies that chew up my time.
I'm guessing this micromanagement of time is now taught in college for would-be managers now? WTF! When did this crap start? I've never had to do any of this in all my previous jobs. Anyone else having to do the same?
Ok, so in order to improve and maintain a consistent FPS rating (rendered, not just streamed), do you have to purchase "upgrade points". Basically, a virtual hardware upgrade for your virtual gaming rig session?
Gee, thanks for making me feel old. I was a senior in high school at the time, playing against my best friend over a dialup connection. Wow, have times changed since then...
IT is a Grey Collar occupation. I install and troubleshoot hardware in the field. I also spend countless hours in front of a screen administering servers remotely. Without question, Mike Rowe would classify some of my client work as a dirty job.
Per Wikipedia
Examples of Grey Collar industries:
* Farming, fishing, forestry, and other forms of agribusiness
* Health care, aged care, child care, and the personal service sector
* Protective services and security
* Food preparation and the catering industry
* High-tech technicians
* Skilled trades, technicians, etc.
"First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me."
Reveling in schadenfreude does no one any good. As an American, I'm truely saddened at what's happening in other nations. They can equally say the same about us too, and rightfully so. Such actions should be universally condemned.
Legislation has only those voting on it as quality control. If those voting are not given sufficient time to at least mostly comprehend the entire bill, then there is no quality control.
Read between the lines. Our congress critters never gave a damn about quality control from the beginning. It's as though they are the system administrators of a giant network. Instead of performing maintenance, they just keep installing software (features through law) while at the same time keep the system hobbling long enough to pass on to the next generation of congress critters that come after them. It's one giant fucking game of "Hot Potato"!
So what happens when your network of servers becomes too bloated and difficult to manage? Two options. First: attempt to clean it up, which is never going to happen. Second: format and reinstall OS and only the apps and userdata you really need. Basically, you have a revolution and start over. That time might come sooner than we all thought I'm afraid.
And we call them civil servants??? I call em douchebags!
Your missing my point. Basically, what I was saying is that if we (humanity) can't even agree on deeply held convictions such as religion, how can we agree on something more basic with regards to morals ethics. I do not believe education will have any impact one way or the other. We are talking about the emotional aspect here, not the logical one.
I don't think anyone is saying that Spun. In fact, I agree with your idea. However, the world is what it is via human nature. By all means, do what you think is right. Just don't expect to lead humanity through your movement. What your asking for can only take place at the scale of religious conviction. Even then, the entire world is not unified on that front.
Sorry! It isn't gonna happen pal! Simply not going to happen.
I started out with a 28.8K USR, then moved up to 33.6 and then USR X2 56k. Of course, those 56k modems only worked if you were connected to an ISP with proper equipment on their end. Even so, I got a 48K connection receive while the upstream was always limited to 33.6 speeds at best.
Oh, and those WinModems are worthless with DOS games. At the time I didn't know any better, but found out shortly when troubleshooting Duke Nukem 3D. Back then, support was limited and the Internet was just a novelty.
Ya, pretty much. He was already on a "no fly" list was he not? Plenty of blame to go around for sure. Honestly, I'm waiting to hear of a program that will require all civilians to be airline passenger certified. Much like going through a program to get your drivers license. Think of all the extra tax revenue our federal gov will get out of charging for these mandatory programs!!!
What ever happened to having a few air marshals on-board per flight? Would be cheaper all around would it not?
Not all changes are a one-way trip. Having a rollback plan is also important. Should something very unexpected happen, be prepared to roll back any and all changes to undo what has just been done.
Look pal, it's easy. You just take this neurospike and that hammer and apply according to the instructions. Now, you'll get a splitting headache afterward, but that goes without saying.
If your still interested in my other products, check out my new and improved nut-vice. Pure pain with pleasure!
the environmentalists in the US are all for alternative technologies, as long as they get manufactured in someone else's back yard
It depends on whom you call an environmentalists as they range from moderate conservationists to the eco-terrorist Greenpeace types. Let be honest here. It's the later that seeks the destruction of America in favor of some form of misguided communist ideology. You know it, I know it! That's what it all comes down to. Greenpeace is the new haven of Communism since the fall of the Soviet Union.
There, I said it. Anyone else have the balls to say the same? Or, is that just too un-PC for some of you?
I've lost files that way, but never - ever- an entire NTFS volume. Regardless, you are supposed to eject all removable storage (flushes write-back cache) prior to pulling the plug. Because you didn't do that, you got the "Delayed write failed" message.
FYI, you can create shortcut that will bring you to the eject USB device window. It's the same as the one located in the system tray. Below is the link with simple instructions.
Sure, but a V8 can't touch a straight six turbo in the "looks good and hauls ass" department.
But a V8 turbo can sure as hell kick a straight six turbo in the ass. If your after HP and torque, the ol adage still holds true. There is no replacement for displacement.
Of all the Chinese auto brands, Chery is the only one remotely capable of meeting strict safety guidelines in the US. It will be some time before they do so, but expect Chery to be the first Chinese automotive brand to be imported when the time comes.
Aside from Chery, all other Chinese brands are total trash! Don't worry, they have a long long way to go before being looked at as serious competition.

Ehhh, not so nice really. Just about everyone is hurting now. It's a global recession (more like depression). Right now, life just sucks ass!
It's all fun and games till numb-nuts ram flying crafts into a buildings. Oh wait...

I have to agree. With that level of skillset, he should be running his *own* company as an active consultant!

Why build when you can just harpoon the asteroid with a rocket, then fire its engines? Assuming of course the material is not too densely packed.
