I think the core of his argument was all about pride. It's pride that provides the social momentum to forge ahead and aspire to be better than we are. Without pride, we sulk and eventually have an attitude of "I don't give a damn". I don't know about you, but I'd rather live in a country that's optimistic about the future AND makes progress. Life's too short to live in a depressed society.

Point I'm trying to make is this. As much as I'm all for science and prosperity, we can't forge ahead when we still have dark pockets of humanity willing to hold the rest of us back in conflict.

Just run a google search for "China blocks skype" and you will understand why.

The problem with opening up the protocol means that the Chinese government can now effectively program their firewall to stop all Skype VOIP traffic going in and out of the country. The primary reason is so it does not cut into the government owned telcom industry. That's #1. Always follow the money trail first. Second, it's to censor the free flow of international communication as it will aid in dissent. The last think the CCP wants is a democratic movement to overthrow them.

Exactly correct! Vaporization is CRITICAL to getting gasoline to burn.

One reason an engine can misfire is due to inadequate atomization of the fuel. The only two known methods are with a carburetor or fuel injector. If the fuel squirts in the combustions chamber rather then "spray or mist", you can forget about getting the sparkplug to ignite the air/fuel mixture. The unburned fuel just blows right out the tail pipe.

Ya, back when I was working in the Dell safety lab (which researched what equipment broke and why), we found most of the faulty batteries to be of the Sanyo brand. When they fail, they don't explode...they just get really really fucking hot (and smoke a lot). However, there have been instances of exploding batteries. Of these, all of them were refurbished 3rd party, or flat-out pirated battery packs being sold as an original Dell part. The cells are basically unbranded. Most likely made in Asia.

By the way, modern laptop battery packs (from Dell) have a built-in EEPROM chips. It's always updated with how many times you've charged it among other trivial usage statistics. I'm sure Dell will start encrypting them too in the future to prevent unauthorized battery packs from being used for obvious liability reasons.

When shit does hit the fan however, the "problem" is patched with even more regulation further compounding the issue even more. Case in point: look at our current tax system in place. Totally micromanaged to hell. Even the FCC has grown way beyond its original purpose.
