Unlike Comcast, FiOS delivers the full range of bandwidth to each user, whereas Comcast users are forced to share bandwidth with other users on the same coaxial cable, causing speeds to fluctuate dramatically with usage." Well fiber bandwidth is based around the same idea that coax cable is, except using light. Of course there is a considerable much larger amount of bandwidth to throw down the pipe, but each person on a street (or area) receives a certain timeslot to send down his or her information on. Right now BPON (Verizon's current fiber network running at 622mbit down and 155mbit up) is probably over sufficient, but it does still carry the risk of oversubscription the same way coax does. To fix this issue, Verizon needs to take the next step and upgrade its infrastructure to GPON which provides 2.488gbit/s download and 1.244gbit/s upload (which is what TELUS in Canada is currently testing).
Not too sure about the US, but since I've ever used a cellphone up in Canuck-land we haven't EVER had to pay to recieve text messages... We pay to receive calls (unless we have an unlimited incoming plan - only a few of these). Not sure where the author got his information from.
Being partially color deficient, something like this would make it interesting to see colors in the real perspective. They have the technology to restore vision, hearing, and regrow organs, yet fixing simple color perspective has not been fixed? I guess it's not as important, but still would be nice to overcome eventually.
Notice is says " Supercomputer to Hit 1.6 Petaflops With 16,000 Cell Chips"... "To Hit" meaning, "Up to"? There's no way that all 8 cores in those 16,000 chips are going to be working 100%... Are they accounting for this factor?
FIRST off... I don't know where you were getting some of that information in your post.
1: The monthly price you pay for your protection plan STAYS THROUGHOUT THE COMMITMENT (hence: "Rate Protection Plan").
2: They have been offering free products with the internet service now for quite some time (for new subscribers, but you might be able to argue if you're a longterm customer). Say Joe signs up for the 3yr commitment, gets the free Computer (that's what they are giving away now), and quits after a month. In the end he pays ~$240 (I beleive it is), which basically pays for that computer.
Also: When does the cancellation fee not apply?
The cancellation fee does not apply if: * You are moving within Alberta or British Columbia and TELUS cannot provide high speed Internet at your new address (see above). * Due to technical limitations or because TELUS was unable to provide your service within the first 20 days. In these situations you will need to return your modem to TELUS before we can discontinue the service charge on your account.
If I'm not mistaken, if you're in a "CONTRACT" with a cellular company, they don't give a damn where you move to (out of their service region) without paying a penalty.
To sum this all up... You get the modem for free (and you DO NOT have to give it back)
So please, before ranting on a company, get the facts straight. Thank you =)
I believe Samba to be one of the great server-side pieces of software in Open Source for companies to slowly switch. This past week, I actually just switched my company's fileserver, and another computer doing domain logon into a single computer doing it all. Easy administration, small footprint (in comparison to windows) and shows restarts are rarely required;) Next is to switch their desktops too! hehe
And it's only the faces that have changed... You'd think the wife would have noticed other things about the other guy that looked a little bit different than her "real husband"
The ear-plug style headphones (Sony's and Apple's off the top of my head) are very good. Even if noise cancelling isn't built into them - they help substantially in blocking outside noises. That allows the listener to to listen to their music at whatever volume they want. They are really nice when in noisy environments (mowing the lawn and trimming, etc)...
Yea, it's cheap in small quantities. (512mb samsung DDR2 for around $60CDN), and you multiply that by 4 (for the 2gb requirement... and DDR3 is going to be even more) THEN you start getting into major percentages for ram to system cost... Pretty stupid saying I must admit
Well we already know the cosmic rays will kill us eventually. So why don't we first think of a way to block these rays better than current methods THEN figure out about making the planet inhabitable by life? Why would we try to start life on Mars if life is unable to survive? Seems kind of retarded to me
It'll be a great way to backup! (until they suspend your account for abusing their policy...) People who need their data backed up really want this to happen...
Hmm. Well now that this can replace blood, slitting the wrists is no longer a way out. Now people must move to more drastic measures: Shooting themselves in the head, or the heart:/ What kind of society are we living in???
Configurable triggers such as removal or tampering of the drive, removal of device from a resting GPS point, cellular telephone call, or even a change in temperature will release a "chemical mist" into the drive (not the computer) destroying it layer by layer.
I can see a new aim for telemarketers... "How many hard drives can we destroy this year??"

No No, it's: My Very Eyes May Just See Uranus Now =(
UPDATE:
If you signup for the computer: a Cancellation fee of $480 applies to early Rate Protection plan termination.

Global warming should take care of that...

It's actually the T-Virus, but they just don't want people panicking

But RAM is now so cheap, it's hardly an issue.

So.. Instead of other galaxies being 10^x lightyears away, they will only be 10^(x-1) away! They are soon becoming a reality!!
"With a single cell, you could theoretically produce the world's annual meat supply."
Hmm T-Rex meat anyone?

Well why don't you just annouce it on Slashdot, and maybe Apple won't hear!
Just blow up the sun... Get rid of it. Everybody should know that No Sun = No cosmic radiation! Honestly, how hard could it be?
They report that test flights should start in 2007.
Hmm.. These betaor alpha flights seem to be a little scary to me. I at least want a Service Pack 10 before I trust anything like this!
