  1. grew up model railroading on Ask Slashdot: Tips For Getting Into Model Railroading? · · Score: 1

Hey timothy, sweet question! I grew up model railroading in HO! I inherited my dad's post-war Lionel collection which is pretty sweet. I currently live in a small apartment in the city so no layout but I have experience since I could talk. I agree with what others have said: clubs, magazines. Also, train shows are great to learn and talk to people. Clubs always show up with a layout and they're great to get ideas from and ask questions. It's an awesome hobby where you go at a slow pace but after time come out with something pretty amazing that evolves as you do. Good luck!

I would consider it if it were on ANY other network but T-Mobile. Wait... nor Alltel. How about a real phone company, Google? Maybe make a free network? Haha, with Google chiming in for buzzwords spoken during coversations with ads to terrible places to eat.

everyone can make stupid names like Dellienwarel and the like but to me, if Alienware wanted a parent company, Dell would be the first I would pick. They're the only mass-makers that my institution hasn't regretted buying from. Low maintenance, I think about 1 out of 100 are shipped with something wrong with them. I won an Alienware in a gaming tournament. It wasn't better than my current rig but it was nice. I unpackaged it to take pictures for ebay and I was very impressed with it overall. Dell takes the same care for each computer even though they sell for much lower. This *should* lower Alienware's prices due to supply costs being cut. If so, this will put one hell of an edge on the market for them. I think of Dailmer-Chrystler, now that they merged European cars have boommed all over the nation. Same thing's going to happen with Alienware. My question is, is XPS going to compete with Alienware in good manner?

  14. Re:Cheap? on Building The Ultimate Home Theater PC · · Score: 1

actually yea, I soundproofed my old case with mats that i use for my studio. I used rubber gaskets to mount the drives which really cut sound by a ton. That way the whole case doesn't vibrate when the disks spin. As for fans, there's the PSU fan and I put a vantec stealth in the back (and the celeron is passive, has a duct over it from the back case fan). The computer sits behind the TV and everything so it's not even seen. Then I have my ATI Remote Wonder so that only the IR reciever is visible. Works pretty well...

  24. what to expect/not to expect out of any movie on Matrix Reloads to $42.5 Million Opening · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think some people went to this movie thinking it would make them realize much more out of life than is expected, much like the first. But if you read any modern philosophy (Berkeley, Hume, Kant, etc) you would already have answered the questions the first movie brought up. Now in reloaded the Wachowski brothers just surfaced more of the same philosophers original works. Causality, purpose, yada yada, that was all dealt with in the new movie; in the first it was epistemology.

I went into this movie only for the action shots. On the other hand I did enjoy the brief breaks like the "rave". Coulda done without so much of Reeve's skin and a little more of Moss's, which I've dubbed Trinititty :)

Anyways, goto the movie only expecting awsome effects. The philosophy's still there but much more subtle. Being that Revolutions was filmed at the same time I doubt it will be any different than this one.

On a side note, Enter the Matrix looks like a fun game. I'll rent before buying it.
