Greeting Gamers this is your Fox 'News' Weekday hurricane warning brought to you by Carl's Jr...
All I can say STUUUPID, both the movie and anyone taking it even remotely seriously. It was barely entertaining, more like a ready victim for MST3K than anything else. It just goes to show you how naive and gullible the average Joe and/or Jane is. The idea that you have to suspend belief for certain parts of movies is well established but you have to suspend all pretense of sentience and coherent thought to believe this one. I really hope Avatar is better than this...
I sent an email to the person who should have been in charge and was greeted in much the same way. We had placed a 'free' evaluation copy of winzip in our corporate image and built it out on literally thousands of machines. after being told to 'shut-up' I covered my a$$ with a dated email and then from the public library dropped the BSA and win-zip/niko-mak BOTH an email detailing the issue. The company settled with both for a LARGE payment and cleaned the desktop image of any 'grey-ware' that was free for NON-COMMERCIAL use. Unless you are in a position to be held responsible I'd recommend just doing NOTHING, safer career wise in the long run...
Mickey Zucker Reichert may seem a relative unknown but his Renshai novels were excellent and get my full read recommendation. This seems to be a good fit. Can it be worse than the big screen adaption (read bastardization) of I, robot ? That was so bad I actually cannot recall more than a few bits from the Will "Fresh Putz" Smith movie. My subconcious seems to have stepped in and protected my concious mind from suffering any further damage by hiding the trauma.
Wierd but not new or really suitable...

As a pen and paper RPG'er for going on 35+ years now, this is only slightly better than numerous apps that have come and gone. To play a real RPG you need to be face to face with your fellow players so you can read the subtle things. As for a channel for player conversations that the GM should not be a part off ? I can't think of any situation involving game that the GM should NOT be involved in. I think they are headed in the right direction but IMHO this would be almost as bad as calling WoW an RPG.
is common practice everywhere, especially on residential streets that have cars parked on both sides, as well as people entering and exiting those cars, kids playing on both sides of the road, and no center divider or double yellow line. I do agree with the point DGatwood made about population density affecting driver safety, probably the most salient fact presented, far more relevant than a possible genetic connection.
encryption being declared illegal in GB, or worse, having to register your encryption key with the government or risk being classified as a terrorist. MI5/6 and the other law enforcement agencies are doing the 'not our idea' dance right now, but they know in the long run the Nanny-State that is the GB will not allow somthing like a persons privacy to stand in the way of spreading fear and mis-information under the guise of protecting the nation. If they criminalize encryption, only criminals will have it...
How about thieves, frauds, con-men, or scam artists ?? I find it hard to believe this is actually a problem. Is there REALLY anyone out there STUPID enough to give up your pin ? C'mon folks the real bankers don't need it to do what they do,ANYONE asking for your PIN is a thief, plain and simple. If you give anyone your PIN other than your more significant half you are a fool of the worst possible kind, and likely deserve what is coming to you. Tell you parents and grandparents that there is NEVER an emergency or occasion to give up the PIN...NEVER.
They may be US based corporate entities, but they want to operate freely in the EU, and they want to be traded on the European stock markets, then you need the blessings of the EU's economic ministry(ies). From the article it looks like the EU already expressed specific concerns and is waiting for Oracle response, but issues like this are never simple.
they are using a fundamentally flawed game system. I've played Pen-n-Paper rpg's since the mid 70's and the current D&D system is really really REALLY Bad. Try GURPS for a far better game playing experience.
I had always considered the technology in Star Trek as the most successful ever implemented. It was so reliable and intuitive as to allow anyone to use it and it rarely ever failed. The idea of technology as the center point is only our perspective because most of our technology is so crappy it take a degree to properly implement and much training to even use. When done right, technology quietly and seamlessly will make our lives better without becoming obtrusive or overwhelming./Me would REALLY REALLY REALLY like a food replicator in place of my microwave oven thank-you very much...
How long will your choice of media last even in the pitch dark ? If the data is really worth backing up it is worth restoring from on a regular basis to check for validity. Even long term storage media like mainframe tape only warrants for 12 months and then you need a re-write to 'clean' media. Most businesses satisfy themselves with a 'best-effort' and then just live with the loss. Only those places mandated by strict law or those with a huge potential financial loss ever really deal with the situation.
Which would be just fine if the problem was handling your phone while driving, but it has been proved that the issue is NOT handling the phone, it is the divided attention needed to talk and still herd your car along safely, and most folks DON'T have the needed mental faculties necessary. Note: I am not implying you are one of those people, many can safely perform 2 tasks or properly proritize themselves to give the most important one the needed timeslice. I was on the phone with a CE from HP and the last thing I heard was OH SHIT...click. He rear-ended a stopped car at somthing approaching 30 MPH, while trying to pass on information I TOLD HIM could wait until he arrived on-site. Luckily he was not too seriously hurt, nor was the driver of the car he plowed into, but for me that was lesson learned, I can only hope it was the same for the CE. As for AT&T, they are getting what they deserve, oversell your network by 100 times and then suddenly discover you can't support the load, GIVE BACK some of the money you took from customers and agree to a plan based in reality. That is NOT the corporate way sadly, oversell your network, and then cut services and terminate customers for compromising the network stability by using what was advertised as available and what you actually signed up for is more the AT&T way.
What are the options should steam go away ? I've personally only had very minor interaction with the service when it first came out, HL era. Can you expound a bit on the steam backup ? physical media involved ? What happens if/when my drive fails ?
How many people travel from San Diego to SF on a regular basis ? Not many, and stopping at all the places in between will slow it down to the point of uselessness. I'd think 4+ billion could be better spent on developing 'reasonably' priced air travel ?
First come first served is a good policy, and as long as you are using the domain name for somthing other than holding out on someone else for a profit, then more 'powa' to you. What I see happening is more of Joe Honda getting his site taken from him because Honda Motors thinks the corporate right to profit trumps everything else. IMHO if ICANN would enforce the TLD division the way it was intended we'd have no problems. '.COM' for commercial entities only, then set up a TLD for personal use ONLY, no commercial application beyond banner ads. But it is probably too late for somthing like that now, the TLD's except.edu and.gov are used interchangably.
There is NO need for an additional laws regarding talking on a cell phone or texting, 41 states already have existing laws that make DOING ANYTHING that interferes with your ability to drive an automobile safely and responsibly a crime. If you can't drive a straight line and chew gum it is illegal for you to chew gum while driving a car. These choad warrior politicians are just grandstanding for attention by cluttering up the books with useless laws. Enforce the existing prima facia speed and reckless statutes and all would be covered.

Besides in the dream world where you apparently live a great deal of your life ? I can see why you post as an AC.
A laughable defense that carries no weight has been working for the record industry for decades...
SLashdot, slower and more bloated by release...
#1 - He is intelligent and not a SlashBot,
#2 - Has anything of value to contribute,
#3 - He is even attempting to contribute,
and then this is slashdot, it is 'cool' to spout unsubstantiated crap and troll.
SlashDot getting slower and more bloated by the release.

The added trash and duplication in my google search results for the last year or so has been an increasingly annoying issue.
How does this mesh with the earlier article regarding the Finnish law declaring internet access to be a right ? I've always been a little hazy of the issue of national sovereignty and membership in the EU.

I'd bet there is more to that story than just a bad reaction to a vaccine. Not that is makes it any better for your GF's mom :(

Is it just me or will we be seeing a video game loosely based on this soon ? Sort of ender-esque
