Most id games are rated mature, but they make a ton of money off selling the game to underage kids. Sure I don't have any proof, but in I saw a a 14 year old at EB Games buy a copy. id should be a ashamed of themselves. They need to implement some sort of age verification system.

So, in conclusion, I believe that there is nothing wrong with teaching Java. I think the core of the problem is that they don't teach the fundamentals of programming (algorithms and data structures), not the language itself.

I totally agree with what your saying, but I am not sure who "they" are in the post. I graduated with a CS degree from the University of Iowa in 2001 and the CS degree required both a Discrete Structures and an Algorithm class. I would suspect that most colleges would have something similar, if not more. Calc 1, 2, and Linear Algebra were also required for the major (Calc2 was good at weeding students out of the CS major into business MIS!). I hope you were refering to specialized trade schools or technical colleges and not traditional colleges, as I believe they DO teach algorithms and data structures.

As a side note, there was single "core" CS course taught in C++, and the other courses were Java. I would guess it is all Java now. I'm glad I took one C++ class, but I feel Java was overall better for learning. There was a lower level programming class (also required for the major) that taught basic chip design and 68k assembly that taught me more about what was "under the hood."

-Silent Hill 3 has a great soundtrack included with the PS2 game (at least the one I got).
-Oblivion. "atmosphere_07" is awesome. The theme is good as well, but Morrowind's is better.
-Wing Commander Privateer has some great tunes, esepically the New Constanople and Perry music. It is probably still there somewhere, but I downloaded all the tunes from http://www.wcnews.com/. I couldn't find it after a quick search.

    From http://www.rackspace.com/information/announcements/datacenter.php/

In the second incident at approximately 6:30 PM CST Monday, a vehicle struck and brought down the transformer feeding power to the DFW data center. It immediately disrupted power to the entire data center and our emergency generators kicked in and operated as intended. When we transferred power to our secondary utility power system, the data center's chilling units were cycled back up. At this time, however, the utility provider shut down power in order to allow emergency rescue teams safe access to the accident victim.

It looks like you are correct. They refer to a "secondary utility power system" but it appears to be going through the same transformer/transformer park. Its kind of like our ISP trying to sell us a second "backup" T1 at the office, when they are both on the same provider. There could be some specific situations where it would work as a backup, but you still have the same weak link in the chain (the provider or backbone goes down). I am not sure why Rackspace had there power set up this way. Maybe it was the cheapest or only option. Maybe it was the cheapest way they could claim they have a backup utility, and still be honest. I wouldn't think to ask "Oh, you have a backup utility, do they both go through the same transformer/transformer park?"

Maybe I am just being cynical, but why is the FCC so interested in this? I've only heard the good stuff about this (cheaper cable, more competition), but there's got to be some downside to this. All I can tell is that the FCC just wants more power - but to do what? I have Comcast, and despite the general hate for them on net I've been fairly satisfied with the service, but the price keeps edging up every year.

I'm kind of locked in to Comcast because my condo fees pay for group rate basic cable for the building (I know the FCC passed something about apartment buildings lately and I have not looked into it). I can get an ugly dish on my balcony, but I am basically throwing away money in condo fees if I am not using Comcast. I'm sure if having an option to go to another cable company or dish would be that great if it means the building loses the volume discount.

The way he explains it is that as soon as they get fiber out they are going to rent or sell the copper albatross and let the next guy in line deal with the mess that has come from the lack of maintenance.
So let me get this straight. After so many years of maintaining the copper structure they suddenly can't handle it which conveniently coincides with a fairly new FIOS service that locks residents into Verizon?
