Little tibits from experience: The 6 button controller was extremely helpful in Wing Commander for Sega CD. If you played Wing Commander 1 or 2 on the PC you can imagine how painful it would be with only 4 buttons total (where the 6 button controller had 7 total).

Pit Fighter was the only game I had that required the mode button to be held down when starting the Genesis.

The Sega Nomad had a mode button built in.

X-Men used an "extra" button, the reset button! You had to physically hit the reset button on the Genesis to get to the last level. Unfortunately the Sega Nomand did not have this "button", making it impossible to finish.

You can run it decently on a couple year old PC even with (some) integrated video chipsets, and decently with any non-integrated 3d video card released in the last couple of years. Mainly because of the number of Mods and addons out there that you will miss out on the XBOX, and I can't imagine playing Morrowind without a mouse.

    8/1/2001: $79.95 price drop official http://www.gamespot.com/news/2803850.html?q=dreamc ast

    11/21/2001: Price drops to $49.95 http://www.gamespot.com/news/2826685.html?q=dreamc ast/

Sega hopes to sell its remaining inventory of Dreamcast consoles, which has now dwindled into the thousands, by the end of the year.

You never really suggested a number of Dreamcasts that you think were sold at this $50, but when it dropped from $100 to $80 they were already down to 200k. However, I could not find the number of Dreamcast sales at the time of the 1/30/2001 announcement. So you may be correct many were sold at a reduced price, it was at $100, and not $50. But neither still have any facts on hold many were sold at $100 either.

Your the second person to bring this up in this thread. Does anyone have any numbers of how many were sold before the price dropped to $50? They sold the on hand ones at $50, they didn't manufacture another 5 million to sell for cheap. I would believe 2 million at most were sold heavily discounted, which would still leave sales at 8 million, which I would still not consider a flop. But I have as much proof as you do, absolutely none.

I guess if by "full support" you mean they test it with that OS and you can submit tech support issues to them without a "we don't support that OS" response. I was thinking more along the lines there would be "cool effects" in Vista that they don't support in XP.

I guess I am more frustrated by the fact they plugged eposodic gaming as being more frequent, yet now they are annoucing DX10 features after delaying the game twice. If the game was still on the original schedule and they wanted to add DX10 or even EGA graphics support I really wouldn't care.

Well since management is on vacation, and since this "never" happened before, the replacement management thought #2 was the best option. It doesn't really matter what they pick, the community is going to be pissed. Then management gives an interview afterwords, and tries to use the excuse they were on vacation? Are you f-ing kidding me? No matter how this "cheating employee" issue was handled, a big chunk of the community will be pissed. The worst thing you can do is blame on it summer vacation.

I am not sure what that percentage is but I would guess it is only 50% of the PS2 library at most. I don't really care that much about BC, but I don't understand why they badmouth MS and Nintendo at first, then do the same thing later. However, having weak BC is not really "ripping off" MS or Nintendo like the achievements or motion controler.

But by this point I had spent at least 20-25 hours or more into the game and the leveling system was making the game less fun. It kind of sucks if you have to play for 20+ hours just to get to a point that combat is fun. I've gotten bored with Oblivion and I think your Chameleon suggestion may breath some life back into the game for me (that sounds fun!).

  23. Re:scaled leveling system, nuff said on Oblivion Designer Moves To New Company · · Score: 2, Insightful

I like the idea of a scaled leveling system, but not the way it was implemented in Oblivion. I already have the leveling mod so I am still playing, but here are my 2 cents.

-There was almost no variation in the enemy's skill. Starting enemies at your level was fine, but after leveling most random enemies stayed at your level. I think it would have worked if when your character was level 30, you could encounter enemies from level 1-30.
-Having non-combat skills as main attributes was suicide. I commented on this before http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=213220&cid=173 42878here

One other small gripe I have with Oblivion and Morrowind is that when you encounter and enemy I wish:
    1) The music would fade into the combat music rather than an abrupt change(see Zelda TP and many other games)
    2) When combat was over it would fade back into the same tune that was already playing, rather than starting a new one.
