One thing I'm surprised nobody mentioned (maybe not, this is /. after all) is that ads are creeping their way into Sports doublespeed. I've noticed within the past two weeks that ads are being put onto American Football Fields in between plays. That's right! _During_ the game! Its really annoying to see a little AOL man running across the screen. Sooner rather than later it'll be a Minority Report type deal.

I think we should expect each government agency to act on its own behalf. The FBI is the law enforcement branch of the government. The FBI should try its danmed hardest, within the law, to try to enforce the law then.

The authors of our constitution had enough foresight to create a system of check and balances. This system generally means that the end result lies somewhere in the middle of any general situation. Does this mean that all of the participants in the decision had a viewpoint that was in the middle of the road? Of course not.

IMO, a law enforcement officer should do anything within his power to enforce the law. Its not his job to make the law, afterall.

While obviously the lack of third party support will make it harder for the GameCube to compete directly with the Xbox and PS2, the chances are that it won't affect the bottom line - namely Nintendo's handsome profit figure - in the slightest.

Also, the following quote gives us some insight into the types of company's that drop Cube support: Atari says that it cancelled Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines on the platform because "there simply wasn't enough time to develop the game on all three platforms".

These aren't companies that are interested in putting out quality games. These are companies interested in pushing out games that will sell as fast as possible. But we've had this discussion many times here, right?

When is the last time your car mechanic told you that you couldn't drive your vehicle because you are an idiot? Does your plumber forbid you from using your faucets?

Instead of yelling at end users for not knowing enough, why don't we worry about solving the real problem: what kind of design works best of an average user. Easy and secure. Microsoft and Linux each excel in one of these categories. So lets worry about finding or working on something that excels in both categories.

They then try to make the general public feel bad by saying that piracy hurts artists ability to make a living. While we all know this is crapola, I'd like to point out perhaps another reason their point is flawed.

Most of the music I like is old school rock and roll - stuff from the late sixties and early seventies. Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin just to name a few. Now, if I were to purchase a Jimmy Hendrix CD, how much of that money would go to Jimi? What about Morrison or Paige?

I wonder, though, how many people will apply these patches. How many people even know they exist? Perhaps the blaster fiasco has made end users more aware of computer security? Somehow, I doubt that. Most of the end users I have had to deal with just want someone else to come and fix their problem (read: why does my computer keep rebooting?). So if there is no perceived problem there will be no fix.

Personally, I think it is a problem that Microsoft has indirectly contributed to this problem by making Computers For The Masses. IMO, *NIX doesn't have such a large problem because its user base is much more aware.

But when will Microsoft realize that their users don't care about security until its too late and if they do what will they do about it?

From the looks of it, it appears that most people think that Nintendo flat out ignored the push to make a console that doubled as a home entertainment system. Has anyone considered that Nintendo may have made a concious decision, after weighing the pros and cons, to keep the GameCube purely a game console?

Isn't it concievable that Nintendo weighed the cheaper/easier-to-make pros versus the lose-market-share cons and simply decided to leave the entertainment system out of the console?

Was this really the worst business decision they could make? With Sony holding a good bit of the market share and Microsoft coming out with a new game console, perhaps Nintendo simply thought they could not afford to make a console that sold at a loss?
