    I use IM to have real-time conversations with my friends from my year in germany, ever seen internation calling rates? Yes e-mail works, but IM is more like a conversation.

    I also use iChat AV to talk to some of my friends who live in other states, yes, that's an IM account, being able to telephone.

    Or what about when I need help online? I talk to several of my computer-geek friends at once to try to find a solution, cheap and easy communication.

    Just because you have Instant Messanger or something similar doesn't mean you need to waste your time chatting life away.

    This is complete crap, take the iPod for example?

    That's selling insanely! They aren't done innovating it, but someone once set, if your aren't moving forward, you're moving backwards. They don't _need_ to do as you say; they already profit with what they have now.

    Dell has a huge chunk of the market because they got in early on the PC boom; and companies like that depend on companies like Apple, Sun, to innovate.

    Oh give me a break; an UPDATE is nothing bad, they found a problem and fixed it, come on slashdot editors; grow up.

    The fact that they were identified and fixed before a worm/virus came out to exploit them is something to be proud of.

    Yes, whoop-di-doo, macs have a couple holes in them, that's not why they're more secure, they're more secure because they're not on by default and they're patched quickly.

    If i'm not mistaken, the iPod batteries are the same as my iBook's. Litium Ion, which needs to be regulated harshly to prevent it from burning up or frying your computer/iPod.

    The iBook batteries are expensive too, same concept, they both have built in circuit boards to make sure the batteries or device is not damaged, unlike this guy's cell phone which is much cheaper akaline (?) or something of the same caliber.

    Back in my day, we had to lug our Pentium computers with 64MB RAM, and 2MB PCI graphic's cards uphill both ways in the snow, while carrying our coaxial networking gear. If I had a dime for everytime I cramped up carrying my 35lb. 12" monitor, i'd be able to finally buy a new monitor!

    One of the reasons I use Firebird and Mozilla on MacOS X, is because of Safari's quirky Java support, some applets just don't work, while others crash the browser.

    Something that Mozilla & Firebird have pretty good, java support

    Something i'd like to figure out, while I don't run NetBSD personally, how viable it would be to run a cluster of various platforms, for example a couple of macPPC, x-86, and UltraSPARC computers running as a netBSD cluster.

    Would NetBSD be able to overcome these big platform differences?

    I would suggest talking to whoever teaches computer science and software. Get the kids doing this for an education to rewrite your perl scripts that do the same job.

    That's something you can pass off as helping everybody, saving y'all money and teaching compSci kids how to work with the computers and OSes

    What a terrible comment, once it comes down to the nitty gritty, it is very difficult to judge "superior" and "inferior" genes. In our short-sightedness we could rule out the gene that cures AIDS, or heart disease; because we as humans aren't habitually long term thinkers.

    Playing with genes is dangerous, it is our very genetic diversity that has made mankind a powerful species. Hopefully this bill will help it stay diverse

    I hate to disagree with my fellow slashaddicts, but I see this as a terrible thing.

    China, being an oppressive communist country is NOT doing this for the good of the chinese people, they're doing it for the military benefits.

    While it's a nice technological achievement (spurred by secrets leaked during clinton's admin) It will not be prove to be something we'll like, we're talking China with Spy Satellites, GPS-like capabilities, and other military capabilities I am not allowed to talk of.
