The problem Timothy, is that you (and most/. readers) know what specifically to look for to prove that these claims as wrong. Maybe somebody should write an article similiar to that of Microsofts, but have REAL data that can be backed up with proof, numbers, and whatever else bean counters like to see. This article could then be submitted to slashdot, and other large news sources.
<Jedi Mind Trick>Timothy, you will post this article.</Jedi Mind Trick>
Multiple people have said this, but c'mon, let's get the ball rolling now, surely we can come up with a colaboration to research these figures. Hell, I'll even get my sponser to host it on his server.
I understand that Java is supposed to be able to be used anywhere, anytime, etc, but is this really something another language couldn't have done much better? Don't get me wrong, Java is a great language, for things like webpages, and stuff that needs to run on multiple OSs, but, come on, a mock MP3 player/server?
Could somebody who is more enlightened, explain HOW the cube works, or maybe post a link? I don't understand, how when twisting it, the corners don't flat fall off.
I was just watching the Drew Carey show(an old Episode), where he tries to get a job at what the dept store has become(the.com). They were saying that the only jobs open were tech jobs. Drew said, "I can do tech." They then asked Drew if he could use Linux. He said yes(naturally), and they asked, "Redhat 7.2?" Made me think of this article, thought I'd post it.
Maybe thats why I was down for a few hours the 22nd. They could have been just refreshing the DNS servers, and it broke them. I had sync still, just couldn't hit domains(I never thought to try to use an IP address...)
US ISP Adelphia disabled the service September 20-22
No, they did not, at least not nationwide. I was checking it literally everyday. It kept screwing with my DNS requests. Unless they mean those 4 hours I was offline on the 22nd, they did not disable sitefinder on my dns servers.
As an interesting aside, the writer of the Sobig virus even makes it in at Number 42... The answer, to the almighty question. Apparently, the reason we exist is to write viruses. You didn't actually believe it was 6 by 9, did you?
[Insert Cable Company* Name] has a monopoly in my city right now. I'm thinking this would stop that. As it stands, [Cable Company]'s servers are down about 2 days a month, plus all the issues on their lines that affect me. It's like playing russian roulette with my internet connection. Maybe in a few months, I can drop [Cable Company] for a better service.
*As much as I dislike [Cable Company], I prefer not to talk bad about them in a public forum such as/.
Did you just use the words "DRM" and "GPL/open source" in the same sentence? I'm almost surprised that we all didn't vanish in a puff of logic.(Douglas Adams - HHGttG reference)
"Like a pack of ravid gorillas with ants stuck up their anuses, the editors of slashdot behave in a quite odd manner when it comes to censorship and poor journalism. Readers should rise up in sacred jihad against these practices; the moment draws near."
Jesus christ mods, read the post before you mod it informative.
Thanks, but it wasn't actually supposed to be funny. Think about it this way...if it's not specifically stated that "Yes, you can download AND distribute these under x terms.", you are violating copyright, are you not? If I were to download one of the MP3's, and send it to a friend, could I get in trouble for copyright violation? Also, if they are in fact under the BSD license(or something similiar), would I be able to modify one single bit in the file, call it a derivitave work, and if anybody else distributed my copy, sue them for copyright infringement? Maybe...maybe not. Just something to chew on for a bit.

Leather fanny pack, Pirated DVD, Soap on a Rope
Yeah...odd Christmas indeed.

Very nice. Sun 64 bit Laptops...I'd buy one too, however, look at the rest of the specs. 500mhz and 256mb RAM hardly makes it worth $3,000.
Well...that shut me up. I actually thought the video would be of the ban(wow, I'm an idiot now that I think about it)
(in QuickTime here)
Now THATS irony!

Alright, which 450 of you jackasses voted yes? :P
Fess up, only slashdotters would have picked the CowboyNeal option.
"Does it run Linux?"
HOAP-2 is designed as an aid to robotics research and therefore runs on open source, Linux-based software
Why yes, yes it does.
He meant kill. You know, like death, murder, etc?

This seems like a good idea for bar owners, but I get the feeling that drunk canadians aren't going to like this much...
HA! You almost floored me on that one. Thank you, I needed that.

xvid is open, is it not? Maybe not a good choice for DVD Retailers, but wouldn't DiVX be a bad idea too?

The page doesn't say what license it was released under. What are the odds that its under the BSD License?
read this as "Seagate Human Transferer"? For a second there, I thought Seagate went into a new market of making teleporter machines.
