Just what I was thinking, I know there's not much to see on Mars aside from the Rovers, the Beagle 2 crash site and that pyramid with a face on it, but it would be cool none the less to be able to look at any place on the surface.
Heh, I always thought you were supposed to peel that foil off!:)
I'm not an expert but I would have expected the foil would be less efficient at transferring heat than the pad underneath it. I thought the point of thermal compounds was to be slighly fluid so that it can squeeze into the small imperfections on the surface of the CPU to create a closer bond? If the foil is there then doesn't that mean it's just the same as if the CPU was in direct contact with the heat sink?
Yep, two things marred Wind Waker for me, the first was the general tediousness of the boating, it would take ages to get anywhere and I literally gave up when I discovered I had to go hunting all over the map for Triforce pieces. The other problem was that they cut two dungeons out of the game (the East and West dungeons) which was really annoying as the dungeons they did include were excellent.
Of course it seems with Twilight Princess they're determined not to make the same mistakes again, so hopefully the next game will be nigh on perfect.
Over a year and a half ago I had an email from GameSpot offering me the opportunity to take part in a third party survey, which turned out to be for Microsoft. The questionnaire presented several potential names for the X360 including Xbox 247, Xbox HD and of course Xbox 360. I think there may have been one or two others but they didn't stick in my memory. I was asked which names I liked the best and why, and what my reasons were for disliking any of them. IIRC I said I liked Xbox 360 the most myself.
They also had a concept logo for the X360 which as it turns out was almost identical to the one that displays when the 360 boots up, except it was on a black background IIRC.
So I believe MS had the name 360 in mind from very early on, before the hardware had even been vaguely finalised. MS jumped Internet Explorer to version 3 at release to make it sound like it was current with Netscape, presumably they did something similar by jumping the name Xbox2.
I would agree with you, however MAME currently has a much wider choice of games. And if you have a modded Xbox1, the version of MAME for it can run just about everything that the PC version can.
When I can get games like OutRun, Ms Pac-Man, TMNT, The Simpsons, Final Fight, Aliens, Chase HQ, R-Type etc on Live I'll consider the money vs MAME issue.
Simpsons multi-player on Live would be really neat. With MAME I map all the characters to the same controls and play all 4 characters with the same set of keys, but playing with real people would be better.;)
Bad luck man. Purely by luck I did order from Play-Asia this time instead of Lik-Sang, as I usually order all of my imports from them. But LS is getting very greedy at system launches, I remember they really jacked their PSP prices right up when it launched in Japan too. I suppose it's a free market and people are willing to pay, but still it does sting a bit.
Wow, Blair actually has a supporter who will waste mod points modding me troll! Or has someone been slipping Blair mod points again? I suppose he'd want to mod me +1 Terrorist and lock me up for saying he's crap though.
Yeah, criticise anything round here and there's always someone who's a fan of it that will mod you as a troll or flamebait.
I've never been sure why Nintendo didn't implement a wireless emulation of the old link up myself. All I can think of is maybe the wired link up was not very fault tolerant, but because it used wires the delivery of data was essentially guaranteed. A wireless solution however could experience lost packets or corrupt data which that could crash older games if they aren't designed to recover from missing data.
And just to really make you mad, did you know the GameBoy Micro only supports GBA games and doesn't play old GB/GBC games? Plus they've also dropped the link cable from it too!;)

'If they wanted to say "DS is for DS games and not a replacement, go buy a GBA if you want GBA stuff", why include the support at all?'
The GBA slot is used as an expansion port for things like rumble packs and game expansion packs (Band Brothers has a GBA cart full of extra songs for example). Since one of the DS' CPUs is the same as the one in the GBA (although it runs double the clock speed in DS mode) it must have been fairly simple to recycle the cartridge port from the GBA and offer simple backwards compatibility. It was more likely a case of "hey we can make GBA games run" than a design goal to make the DS a fully functioning GBA.
... that Blair did fuck all during the presidency except giving away a billion pounds of tax payers money to French farmers. Turns out he managed to find some time to implement more of his fascist laws too! How does he do it, eh?
Is it me or does it sound like Yahoo! is making some sort of apology for their man daring to suggest DRM is bad? It's a shame that DRM seems almost inevitable now, despite the high profile debacle last year of Sony's rootkit and patches, it doesn't seem to have translated into a public awareness of what DRM is and how it restricts you. iTunes for example, seems to be doing rather well, it just reached its billionth download.
Certainly worked for Halo 2, it was rushed and unfinished and still everyone rushed out to buy it when the reviewers failed to mention the short comings. In fact watch me get modded a troll for saying something bad about Halo!
What are the controls like on your PDA with those emulators? I've been using emulators on various iPaqs since the first one and the buttons are just useless for gaming (which isn't surprising I suppose given that's not what it's designed for), so I'm always on the lookout for a device with a more Gameboy-esque set of d-pad and buttons.
Better yet, get Halo 2 and an Xbox 360 and you can play Halo 2 in 720p which is pretty close to the resolution you could play it on the PC and it's still cheaper than a rig that would run Vista. Given how lazy the first Halo port was (presumably to make the Xbox look better) I doubt there will be any additions to improve the graphics aside from upping the resolution.
IIRC Internet Explorer 3 was the first version of IE, MS called it version 3 to match it to the version number of Netscape at the time. It was quite a clever tactic by MS used to hide the fact they had nearly missed the Internet boat. It's funny to think back to a time when people thought MS would be too slow to get into the internet market!
Come to think of it, that was the same reason for calling it the Xbox 360, because MS wanted a name with 3 in it to match PS3 rather than be on the "lesser" version number of Xbox 2.:)
Reimagining a TV show and designing a game are hardly comparable. Aside from the cheesy sci-fi plot many games have, the challenges of designing a good game are very unlike that of coming up with a new spin on a sci-fi show. Try thinking of a valid point in future before pulling out the tired old RTFA shit.
Well the Xbox1 controller was rectified not long into the Xbox1's life with the controller S, and as for the 360 being smaller, it's barely slimmer and it only manages that because the power supply is in a huge external brick. The 360 would be bigger if they'd incorporated the PSU into the case. I don't think MS did much wrong last generation, but it's too early to judge the 360 really. True they lost money big time on the hardware but they didn't care about that, they wanted the most powerful console and didn't really care it wouldn't become much cheaper to manufacture over its lifespan. Xbox1 was more of a brand awareness exercise, the whole reason MS triggered this next generation early is so they could get onto something cheaper to make.
As for MS buying the design, there are plenty of Windows CE devices out there that MS could borrow the design of and slap on a d-pad and buttons, I don't see why they would need/want to buy into a failed brand.
... a BSG fan really wanted to meet Ron Moore so he hired him to speak at his conference. I mean, I really like Ron Moore's work and BSG is one of the best things on TV at the moment, but is he really the best person to keynote a games conference? I've never heard him discuss games before, so what makes him a good choice for this subject?
Dude you want to complain about advertising in Chaos Theory and pick on the Brothers in Arms adverts? What about all the pre-rendered cut scenes which have extreme close-ups of Wrigley's Air-Waves chewing gum packets and showing Sam Fisher eating it all the time? I personally found that much more egregious than the BiA ads. YMMV of course.:)
I've got RE4 for the GC and the PS2, if you think the analogue stick is twitchy and annoying on the Cube you should try the PS2 version! I don't know why but all PS2 games seem to have a massive dead zone on the analogue sticks, it's like 50% dead zone, leaving the other 50% for analogue control. And since the sticks have such a small range of movement anyway they're practically digital. I can't work out if it's just the sticks are badly designed or if Sony require all developers to put large dead zones in for players who don't really get what analogue is for.
While I certainly always prefer the mouse over the analogue stick for aiming, I didn't find it too egregious to use the GC's analogue stick and I got quite adept at shooting the Ganados in the head... until their heads started exploding to reveal some nasty creature that's even hard to kill...
So yeah I'll be buying the PC version definitely, but I won't be surprised if the controls don't translate very well, Rockstar made an awful mess when they converted San Andreas to the PC when they forced you to hold a button down to aim. Konami made a real hash of MGS2 when they converted it, so I'm crossing my fingers that Capcom don't make the same mistakes.
Also you probably still won't be able to move while aiming and the aiming might not be quick and responsive like we're used to from other third person shooters like Max Payne, Jedi Knight 2 or Vice City. And instead of WASD controlling forward, back and strafing, I'll bet it will do forward, back and turn left/right. If my guesses are correct it might actually be easier to hook up a joypad to play it rather than get frustrated at the controls mimicking the standard FPS layout but with annoying differences.
Just what I was thinking, I know there's not much to see on Mars aside from the Rovers, the Beagle 2 crash site and that pyramid with a face on it, but it would be cool none the less to be able to look at any place on the surface.

Yeah, I'd be interested to know if there's a list of websites ordered next to each person's record.
This could be a blackmail gold mine; "give me $5000 or I tell your wife about your subscription to gayguys.com". Scary.

LCARS = Library Computer Access and Retrieval System
It's the name of the OS (or possibly the UI) of the computer system you see on Federation starships during the TNG/DS9/VOY era.

Not pedantic at all, it's all useful info.
