  1. Of course.. on Make Something Unreal Gets Next Phase Winners · · Score: 4, Insightful

It will be half life 2, which mod makers will embrace. UT2k3 is great, the dev tools they offer are completely up to par. Developers are doing crazy things with the unreal engine, and I give them full credit for their endeavors.

However.. there is a certain modification for HL1 which was so good, it was the first game mod to garner extreme commercial success. I have yet to see a mod for a game which has had the attention & the impact that CS did.

Gooseman & the CS dev team did this without the incentive of a million dollars, too. It was out of sheer enjoyment of one of the best PC games, in my opinion, that has ever been created. Perhaps Valve will learn from Epic, and decide to offer some cash prizes to mod developers. This would, in my mind, push the community even farther than it's already gone.

Although in the game, it is 2145..at a research facility on mars. I find it hard to believe that there isn't one piece of duct tape anywhere on the planet. Great game, play it how it was originally meant to be played. I'm not exactly sure if it's worth $60, but it is something the minimalist linux people will have to consider upgrading for. :)

Funny you mention that.. Windows Update is now upgraded to "version 5" which prohibits updates from pirated keys. So, the only way to get SP2, would be to apply it manually. Even then, i'm not sure it would allow an install. I believe they rolled out that new update site to coincide with the release of the now delayed SP2.

These technical schools, of course, are FOR-PROFIT organizations. They are here to take your money, and give you a piece of paper.

My questions regarding this being: Are any of you holding a degree from Devry/technical schools out there? How did you break in to the industry with a Bachelors/Associates degree? Are there *ANY* success stories out there with people from these technical schools?

I'm hoping I am not pissing away all this money for a piece of paper, which will be laughed at. Bottom line is, at my current residence, I need to get something under my belt & get the hell out of here as quickly as possible. I know quick & easy is never a good solution for an education, but honestly.. I can't see landing a job with just tech certs alone & absolutely no college. Time is ticking for me, and I cannot, for the life of me, find any entrance in to the field around Chicago.

Granted this isn't a CS degree i'm shooting for, it's considered a bachelors in applied science. Is it even worth my time & money? I'm looking to pay about 50 grand back in the stafford loan program, when and if i'm successful in completing it. I know experience is the greatest thing to have on a resume, but I need to start somewhere, and this seems like a perfect solution. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That pretty much sums it up right there. Exactly what do these guys want? Being one of the largest, most proliferated company on the planet isn't enough, apparently.

Don't think this is freaky yet? Check out this article and realize the strategic use of patents in influencing a market. They have all the money to do this too, which is the scariest part. Patents aren't about protection any more, it's about CONTROL.

Sorry, they're not gonna catch a damn person with "eventually" and "whatever" as backing for a reward.

If anyone put half of the effort in to catching spammers as they do with file sharers, I believe this would be a closed case. There is something fundamentally wrong with this whole situation.
