  1. Great for older games on How Much Longer Will Physical Game Distribution Survive? · · Score: 1

Steam and digital distribution are great for finding older games. I don't pick up the latest games on release I fit them in when I have the time and sometimes that is a year or three down the road. If they weren't a screaming success they're hard to find in a store.

Indie songs might work for GH, but they won't for Rock Band. People like to play songs they know, especially beginners.

  5. L4D has more than 4-5 hours of gameplay. on Do Video Games Cost Too Much? · · Score: 1

If you play through each co-op campaign only once, you'll see 4-5 hours of play. This game has a lot of replay value if you have friends that you enjoy to play games with. There are the achievements, different difficulties for people that enjoy a challenge, and versus mode. They only thing that stopped me from picking up L4D on release was Wrath of the Lich King.

  6. Re:What about the promised assault mode? on Unreal Tournament 3 "Titan Pack" Expansion Coming In March · · Score: 1

Making an assault mode for UT3 would just be giving onslaught mode or whatever its called a different name. You run to an objective point and get a new objective. I haven't played UT3 in a while but I think Tank Crossing is a decent example. You can blow up roadblocks to move your tank in closer and you also need someone to get the blast shields down. It is like Assault mode except objectives completions aren't permanent.

  7. Re:...and? on First Doom 4 Production Shots Revealed · · Score: 1

I enjoyed the survival horror aspect of the game. I raved about it when I first got it, it got stale around Delta Labs and I stopped playing. I picked it back up around two years later, I found that tossing on cheats and blowing the crap out of everything with the RL was fun too. I guess I take the middle road with my opinion.

  17. Re:A protected world view. on EVE Online's Next Frontier · · Score: 1

My first stint with Eve was when the game first went live, played for 3 months and could fly every cruiser, amarr and gallente battleships, use any weapon, maxed out mining, and could control 8 drones. I did the math on how long I would have to grind rocks to get a battleship or join a corp and grind rocks for them for them to get a battleship BP and finally decided that the upkeep of the game was not worth my time and quit. Finally joined again and within one month I had the ISK for a battleship thanks to a trading route provided by my new corp, but again I tallied the time I'd spent training skills to get back where I once was and just decided to give up again. Its a hard game for a newbie to just jump into these days, months of training skills to get to the point where you're remotely competitive. As an American a large portion of the population is heading in to sleep when I am logging on and this hurts when you need someone to watch your back while you're mining away, unless you want to buy two accounts. As for real loss in-game I never had much of a problem with it, like real life you don't skimp on health insurance. Prototype modules and implants are acceptable losses IMO as you die so infrequently for you not to get your money's worth most of the time out of them. I have to admit that it was funny talking with my old character nearly a year and a half after creating him though.

  20. Re:That explains all those unguilded rogues! on Blizzard, Square/Enix Ban Yet More Farmers · · Score: 1

I agree, people buy gold because they don't want to participate in the same redundant action for hours on end. Been playing a year and still don't have my epic mount because I won't buy gold and I am always chewing glass and eating repair costs in the newest raid instance on the block. I am really not looking forward to leveling up a miner and farming for weeks to get the 20+ arcanite bars on top of devoting time and gold into Naxxramas, to get Tier 3 armor. Blizzard is off to a good start, you can't buy the best things in the game (without buying an account, but good luck buying an account and not having someone on your realm know about it). Blizzard can curb this by creating some more ways to gather gold into the game. More equality amongst professions, maybe repeatable quests with gold rewards, make something commonly laughed at a commodity (Skinning), and for christ-sake stop making everything require Arcanite/Dreamfoil!!!

  23. Re:Bah! The consumer has rights too! on Best Buy vs. The Game Makers · · Score: 1

I think Epic is mostly fighting this because they try not to be all lockdown with their copy protection and after their games have been out of a reasonable period of time they don't even force you to put the disk in the drive. Granted UT2004 has a cd-key for online play but thats about it. I respect that I don't have to provide a CD, uninstall Nero, a thumb-print, and provide a stool sample to play the damn game. Unfortunately if you resell a game like this 200 users could be running the same game for little to no profit to those that made the thing. I can front the extra $10 to buy the new version and do without getting back $1.50 for the game I paid $55 for. Honestly are you guys actually fighting for Best Buy this time around?

  25. Re:Staging A Nintendo Win? on The 360's Towering Pricetag Explored · · Score: 1

Sounds good in theory but its nearly the same game (no pun intended) they played with the Gamecube. Sure a few people bought Gamecubes because they were cheaper (or solely for Metroid Prime like myself) and hoped and prayed more than 10 good titles would come out for the thing in its lifespan. Nintendo will need a great selection of launch titles to convince many Gamecube owners to stick with Nintendo this time around.
