If you have a problem and call or email for support, alot of publisher's call centers will just get rid of you since laptops aren't generally supported. Its not enough reason alone to not get the laptop if you see enough pluses to it, but it is a factor to consider.
One guy accidently threw away their check and its an ask slashdot? This clearly demonstrates the evil monster that the RIAA has become, that IP law is evil, and how F/OSS is needed to save the world. I didn't think this place could get any lower. I cheer the achievement!
"All that is required for evil to triumph, is that good people do nothing."
Which in your rape case above would be to quickly turn over the evidence to prove your innocence so the authorities can get out there and find the real rapist. Or you could bitch and moan and stall do nothing and let evil triumph as the real rapist strikes again.
I don't think you actually understand the difference between good and evil. Good is not self-serving.
If you have spent 20 years developing something, you better not be dumb enough to work on it on someone else's dime, Mr. Hyperbole. Yes your employer owns it, especially if your employer also makes rocking chairs, as is the case in this suit.
The answer lies in something that most users don't understand called "game design". Games are designed to be played with values within certain ranges. The game will allow you to ruin the game for yourself if you want to try hard enough, but don't expect that it will make it easy.
Slashdot, despite being owned by VA Software, does not have post this fact on the front page or in very many news stories about Microsoft or Linux or Apple. (I'd call MS and Apple competitors of VA, but VA looks like a joke when you compare the financials.) ALL of slashdot's articles are biased towards VA's product. MSN searching MSNBC is supposed to shock me? Hell at least its automatic. Slashdot is HANDPICKED bias, all day everyday.
Oh no, they made it to space. I sure hope they didn't infringe any American patents. Considering that the US put a person in space in 1960, and that US patents only last 20 years, I dont think anyone involved with the flight can really say anything if the Chinese stole those "secrets".
Meanwhile in this pit of backwards technology, American PRIVATE CITIZENS are going to space.
Once again, that little thing called reality gets in the way of the slashdot opinion.
Likely misleading. If it is backwards compatible they would list all GBA games currently in development as games in development for DS. There is no way there are 120 games in development for DS. I declare shenanigans.
...is that the whatever it is is no longer of enough interest to be published...
FALSE. It only indicates that the risk/reward of paying money up front to create a batch run of the whatever it is does not cause whatever it is to be published currently. If something is being downloaded 1000's of times, it indicates a significant interest. HOWEVER, because it is being downloaded for free thousands of times, the risk/reward is shifted away from the republication of the whatever it is. So, actually, it appears, copyright infringement is its own creater. I downloaded it because it is not available, but its not available because everyone just downloads it for free all the time. There is no justification. See: Nintendo's and Atlus' republication of many of the NES titles on GBA. In fact, outside of pokemon, these are probably the most successful GBA titles. The market would exist in the absence of the downloads. You arguement holds not even a drop of water.
PS If you quote comic books as examples of your thought process, you might be an idiot. Im just saying.
Damn, how did you figure out that the site is functioning as someone intends? You mean, there really isn't some intelligence taking over the site inadvertently? Golly, you post has been a life changing event for me. You mean, works of fiction didn't really happen? Slow down, I can't absorb this all at once. So, instead of reading and enjoying books, I could just dismiss it because it isn't real and just a story?
I'll think I'll enjoy this free game as long as it interests me rather than by a cynical asshole this time. You sure were smart to figure out that it wasn't really happening and some human set it up that way. Wow.
Nonsense. Before I posted I reread the Windows XP EULA and the GPL. The GPL tries to tell me what I can do with things I create, Windows doesn't. The choice is clear. When I need to choose a platform on which to create things, I need to choose one that allows me to own what I create without restriction.
Probably. If the copyright holder decided it would be worth their time. Thats the beauty of the legal system. Even if a law exists you still have to break it in such a way that 1. you are caught doing it and 2. that you sufficiently bother someone in the process to make it worthwhile to push you through the system.
These 2 set a pretty high threshold for getting a megaconglomerate company involved. I doubt your single worthless copy would raise a sleeping giant, but a perfect digital copy for 1 million of your closest friends might garner notice.
Yeah, I downloaded that GIMP photoshop clone, but it had some weird licensing scheme that required me to give up some rights if I created derivative works from the program. Since all I intended to do was use the program to create derivative works I deleted it immediately. I wonder if it is any good. Oh well, at least I know for certain I am free to do whatever I wish with my free copy of MS Paint.
You are right though, it was a positive experience to see how the other half fools itself into thinking it has it better. I've never felt angry at Microsoft. Are you sure you aren't just projecting?
This is a very interesting part of the research and analysis. Interesting for me is that other studies have found that females tend to struggle when compared to males in a three dimensional environment.
Could the relative perception of how the controls function in third-person vs first-person be the issue? Whatever it is, it probably has to do with something you would consider psycho-babble so you should take that minor and sign up. Looks like there are plenty of further meaningless studies to be done.
Your rant is cute in all, but if you can't control it, it still doesn't matter. As a consumer you can control only one side of the issue so you can choose to take responsibility for it or not. Beyond that, pointing fingers can only make you feel good, but not really solve problems.
But I am not playing Doom 3, Halflife 2, Halo 2, or any other FPS on a controller and going to enjoy it.
You should at least consider the possibility that is a problem inherent to you and not the platform. Working at a game publisher, I can tell you that a console gamer can OFTEN whup a PC gamer on a PC, but a PC gamer will never, EVER beat a console gamer on a console. To me the controller complaint is more a testament to the inferiority of the PC gamer than the console game system. But thats probably just me meeting hundreds of gamers a year. Whatever.
(handheld miniguns, bio-mechanical soldiers, and an undead medieval prince?)
I don't get it, are these complaints or high points? I mean, Wolfenstein 3D had a mecha-Hitler with dual chain guns. These other things are a problem now?
The numbers have probably changed now, but most of the non-human costs have actually gone down, so I don't understand the 'greater than inflation' rise of the monthly fee.
Maybe the source of your misunderstanding is right there. Human costs rise. Minimum wages go up. Cost of living goes up. As more players join, you need more reps so you can't just divide a set number among all the players. Why do you wholly dismiss human costs and then claim a lack of understanding?
If you spend your whole life worrying about if you are getting perfect value for your dollar you will only end up bitter and alone. But hey, you'll probably have much more spare change in your change jar than me when you die so it will all be worth it! Right?
Wow, you would have paid $10, but refused $15. If you otherwised liked the game, you stopped playing over a mere $60 per year. I know people who drink that much in latte a month. I'm sure you throw away $60 per year in other trivial things. Who needs the things that make us happy? But hey, its the principle, right? Right?

I have forwarded your offer to bomb a government building to John Ashcroft. Have a nice day.

When Sega Sports ESPN NFL 2k5 is already out and the superior game?
The ones that survive the screw will. But in this business one bad holiday season can be the end.
But if you aren't sure how to fix it, or even how it should be, how can you be so positive something is wrong?
Maybe thats just how the engine sounds...

Not that it is easy, but it should be possible.
Ah the OSS advocate. Mortgaging the future of so many jobs, so many companies, so much current and potential wealth on a hunch.
Whats up with that link to buy Driven on Page 2? Weird.

Does it matter? Functionally its still less incentive to make PC games. Pointing blame doesn't help.
