And where can you display the license key on an existing system? Registry? System Properties?
Google for "belarc advisor" - it's a utility that inventories your system and is able to obtain the key of windows, office, etc. Just download and run the exe file, it will take about a minute and will display a webpage (just a local temp file) in your default browser with everything you wanted to know about your computer (in this case your key, but it tells you about your hardware specs and all the other software you have too).
I'm sure you can find a more "hardcore regedit" way of doing it, but I'm lazy.
I think that feature is called "Windows Sounds" or some such. I'm offended by the "Startup" one the most. They will even tell you that they didn't have a musician create it, they just had a guy throw some sounds together that "sounded good to the market research group"(sic). I've also noticed that if you play with audacity a bit, you can hear Baal's voice cursing you (just run a low pass filter on "startup.wav" or whatever the file is set it to about 400Hz, then have a high pass knock out anything under 80Hz).
Just look around on the torrent sites. You can find install disks that install without you having to enter a serial number (automatic) and pass wga. They will also have the most recent service packs, ie 7 updates, and media player (whatever the latest is).
Even if you are the ethical type that pays for software you should be cool with this as you have already paid for it.
If you don't need windows specific software, you could try ubuntu linux. Or better yet, if the laptop uses intel graphics, drive controller, etc you could give FreeBSD a whirl (personal favorite).
Yes, powering lower voltages off of 12VDC is easy. For my DIY projects I usually just throw in a LM317 or LM350 regulator set to the voltage I want (unless it's 5VDC needed, then I just go with the (slightly cheaper) 7805).
I don't usually bother, but you can also wire the LM317 as a current regulator. So if you wanted a USB device to run off 12, you can limit the voltage to 5VDC and the current to 500mA etc.
Anyways, I guess I'm trying to agree with you in my long winded way.
I'd be perfectly willing to cash a cheque that was from them. I would have a problem with writing cheques to them. In the former case, I can just say that I wrote some code for their finance department or some such. If I'm sending them a cheque, it's a little bit more difficult to explain.
What they refer to as "unlabeled" might not be what we would think of as such. They might be thinking "all these containers had were a few letters and numbers - where are all the safety notices in case one of his neighbors' kids come into his basement?". I deal with the breeders and their self-righteous attitudes all too often. Why should I care about your crotchfruit? You made em, you raise em. Their existence should not limit MY freedom (I don't get any input into how they are raised). Sounds fair doesn't it?
Dude, if you tried to eat sodium, you would have more problems than you get from eating NaCl. Likewise for Chlorine. Two evils balance out! NEVER DESTROY THAT BALANCE!!!!
I'm frying me up a nice cheeseburger right now. Though I suppose it's bison and not cow so it doesn't really apply here. I just hate vegans. As a matter of fact, I am considering starting an organization dedicated to "vegan ranches" in which vegans are raised and slaughtered. I'm guessing that you wouldn't taste too bad, due to that no meat diet...
Jews invented nuclear power, made my CPU and generally don't try to make me follow their silly rules. The best part is that despite being the one of the three desert religions to have actually experienced real persecution, you really don't whine about it as much as the other 2 (ever listen to the Christians claim that atheists are persecuting them by teaching evolution? - the worst are the ones who will reply to this with some B.S. about the Romans feeding them to the lions).
Personally, I say why stop at Gaza? Time to take Egypt and give those fuckers some payback! 5000 years of interest!
I was 6'5" and 135lbs about 10 years ago. Now I'm around 190 and was up to 220 for a bit. The way I gained weight was that my doctor prescribed Olanzapine. I've since quit taking it, but have found it quite easy to keep the weight on compared to gaining it. I guess my point is that I know how you feel.
I downloaded a copy of XP to run under parallels from a torrent. It was a custom ISO that did not require activation or entering a serial number. It also gets the updates perfectly every time without complaint.
I had more trouble setting up virtual machines in VMWare at work with legit copies than I did with the pirated copy.
I am considering doing the same. I'm currently in Canada and am thinking of moving to Western Europe (The Netherlands or Belgium perhaps). I have no family to worry about moving so I figure what the hell. I was wondering where you left and where you went and what advice would you offer to a would be mover? I obviously should visit the places first, but then I'm not planning on moving tomorrow (a few years yet).
I've taken the first step of picking up a learning Dutch cd and book combination from the bookstore (I've been told that every dutch person speaks English but people seem to like you more if you try to speak their language even if you suck at it - well at least that's how they seem to be in Quebec). I've learned how to order milk and hash and how to ask for sex. Currently, I am trying to read some ham radio technical articles (the ones that I can find that have English translations beside them). That will take care of my personal life, then I will concentrate on business topics.
Any advice from Slashdotters in The Netherlands would also be welcome. Like many here, I work as a software developer but also have agricultural experience. I have no criminal record or anything that I can think of that would be an obvious barrier to entry and I have a degree (some websites say that that the immigration officials like that).
There are some "extended working holidays" that are available to Canadians and Australians who would like to visit which seems like a good deal. Has anyone tried one of them?
You are assuming that he is using the word "patriot" to mean admirable. It may be that he is saying that anyone who calls themselves a "patriot" is evil.
It seems you also don't just block ad servers you come across in /etc/hosts either.
We can typically defend our belief with reason and solid premises rather than some strong emotional tie to it.
Feel free to begin anytime. I'm willing to bet that you can't.

He uses post-it notes stuck to his monitor.

Nah, he'd just run away like he did during the Vietnam war.
He's an Albertan, he can't figure it out.

I wonder if I'm the only tall blond white guy that browses jdate...

America's lack of knowledge in the sciences?
If the fucktards won't pick up a book, what can this guy do about it? For that matter what are YOU doing about it? Nothing? That's what I thought.

Children do not belong to parents anymore than the government. They are people too you know.
I say this as someone who spent four years studying philosophy--mostly philosophy of religion--and earned his bachelor's in the subject.
Yeah, hi. I'll go with an Angus burger meal with a strawberry shake.
Just kidding.
