You mean like lobbing million dollar missiles at some Muslims on the other side of the globe?
Climate change or not, the RIGHT thing to do regardless is find better ways to meet our electrical needs. Oil/Coal can and should be mostly replaced as soon as possible.
Progress and advancement as a species. Just think about the conflicts that could be reduced if no one on the globe had to worry about energy production.
States that once relied on mining are easy to sway by throwing a bone or two their way. Then other blue collar workers who feel overlooked think Trump is going to look out for them.
Do not discount the gullibility of the average American voter.
Well - one potential explanation is that the farms that were built to provide this power don't run at full capacity even though Google pays them to do so.
I guess no one here has seen the movie "Real Genius" with Val Kilmer.
Bright college kids were tricked into developing a targeting system for the military. They hacked the weapon during a demonstration and had it fire the laser into their advisor's house, which comically popped a houseful of pop corn.
Well.. based on my limited experience with Apple and their products.. rendering "older" hardware useless is a key ploy to get people to buy brand new Apple products.
If I'm going to pay a premium for a product that "just works".. it better keep working for as long as the hardware holds up. They basically used an obsolete OS version to hold my wife's macbook hostage unless we paid around $100 to update it.
How would homes in Florida stand up to a 7.0 earthquake? What would your heating bill be if the temperature stayed below freezing for 20 days straight?
Think about it a bit, different regions have different standards.
A little snow on the ground in Florida and people think the day of reckoning is upon us.
China has over 1 billion people. In order to gain access to that market, they had to establish a presence.
Plus, capitalism calls for maximizing profits dammed of the consequences. Who cares that the technology and IP was stolen at the same time, cheap labor and almost no environmental laws!
I'm in the Dayton area. We use to be able to boast the most patents per capita when companies like NCR were still around.
When people complain about the weather, I remind them that's what keeps our cost of living very low. Winter kinda sucks but for 9 months it's not all that bad. The worst part for us is the high volatility. I'm sure this holds true for most of the region but as the saying goes around here, "if you don't like the weather just wait 4 hours." It could snow today and have tornado watch tomorrow.
If someone who has gone through the training to "serve and protect" wilted in the face of danger, do you think people who have been trained to teach kids are going have better reactions?
Now if they were locked in their room with their students and a gunman enters.. yes, I believe they would do their best to defend the students. As for seeking out the gunman in the halls? Yeah, doubtful.
What I hate are the armchair warriors that come out and say "well, if I was there with a gun I would have ended it..." bullshit.. you and like almost every other sane person on the planet would look to preserve your own life unless it was inevitable there would be a direct confrontation.
I'm not scared to admit it.. if I were in that position and I had a gun, my first action would be to find a defensible location with good sightlines. I would sit there until I could either ambush the shooter or until the professionals cleared the building.
More guns to solve our gun issue.. just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I don't have a good response.. it might be too late considering how many guns exist already.
The one in Florida just over a week ago, had an armed officer who was too scared to go in and confront the shooter.
This was a trained professional to respond to these situations.
You probably think teachers are going to be better trained than a police officer to respond to an active shooter. Are teachers going to get hazard pay now?
I have friends on both sides of the political spectrum. When I listen to their complaints and their desires for government, the two sides are quite similar. I'd say this hold true for most Americans in that we just want accountability for the spending. About the only Americans who do not want this are the ones we elect. It's a funny thing, politics.
Yes - it's so annoying when people say they have the flu when it's just a common cold. Our 5 year old had a fever for around 36 hours then was back to normal. Likely not the flu.
That being said, my wife is just now back on her feet after spending 5 days in bed fighting influenza a (doctor confirmed). She got a flu shot and is almost militant about washing hands.
Of course now that she's feeling better.. I'm starting to feel a little worn down, I hope it's only a case of the Mondays.
My idea of a la carte was to still get the media delivered by the cable company but pick and choose what channels I would pay for. One point of payment.
I have zero intention of managing multiple subscriptions.
I have a small digital camera that is water proof to 3 meters and it has 1 easily opened compartment for the battery and another for the USB connection and the SD card.
For a $1000 device, those engineers need to figure out a way to make it work.

(I'm an American, fwiw).
So you are cherry picking items to counter-argue against cherry picking.
Logic in 2018.

Instead of a protest letter, fool the AI into aiming the weapon at the commander's house instead. That will make a bigger statement.
I did say limited experience and it was probably about 8 years ago. Bad enough experience to not go back.

Do you avoid the German companies for lying?
Maybe Trump should show his taxes before claiming some other person/entity is not paying their fair share.
Why give IT department a pass? Doesn't matter if your bosses are inept, that should not stop someone from doing their job.
Rest in Pieces.
Not as high as you think. Takes a lot of infrastructure to provide OE parts a decade after production ended for a vehicle.

You missed my point.

Sounds good until they show up and just rip out the line.

If they'd trim the military fat at the same time, it would be harder to complain about cuts to domestic programs.
This is a serious problem.
Not for the people who write, file, and defend the patents.
