though you may just be toying with him, i just moved into a house in may and have only had to drop cat5 in the rooms. It covers:
- Audio (streaming radio/mp3 collection from media server)
- HD Video (Xbox360 w/ tversity for me, but HTPC for most people)
- Ethernet (duh)
- Phone (i only have cell, but my landline would be U-verse and thus would plug into the cat5)
- TV (U-verse boxes have cat-5 jacks on the back and are essentially just computers on your network)
I have quite a few apps for the iphone do different scientific and graphing calculator functions, and none even come close to the ease of use or speed of using my ti-89.
That, and my colleagues will have their calculators open, do the math, and turn them off before my iphone app even opened.
i will say, however, that i love the many EE related apps that do quick common calculations: current-limiter resistor calculations, resistor network calculations, wire gauge calculations, etc
I agree completely with you, in fact i was going to mention the 'buy 1 get 1 free' type of "free" in my post as well. What i'm saying is that since there is little, if anything, that is truly free nowadays, and the word has sort of shifted meanings to mean "doesnt cost any money".
I suppose we should also complain about people that claim they "saved" $50 on an item that was $100 w/ 50% off? (just joking, i know half of the people will read this and be foaming at the mouth just thinking about something saying that : ) )
That is, unless you think that 'free' means 'no hard currency was exchanged'.
Yea, that's pretty much what we all think. do you really think someone is reading your post and going "holy crap, he's right - they DO look at my data! and tv DOES have ads! none of this is FREE!!!!"
Yea, we all know we are giving up time, or letting company X gain something by giving our time, or whatever, but most of the general public (including me!) considers only their pocketbook when thinking about whether or not something is "free". Hell, even if i have to spend 20 minutes doing something (lets say filling out a rebate on something so that the final price is $0), i STILL consider it free!
i have it in milwaukee, and it's spectacular. i can't think of the last time a call was dropped, texting is always snappy, and i regularly get 1000Kbps, and sometimes up into the 2000's. (this data according to the speedtest.net app)
on the contrary, i go out to the bay area (CA) quite a bit and between SF and Oakland its actually considerably worse than in milwaukee (for me!)
i've never understood this approach...if someone hacks your amazon account and sees that it's "amazon*ninasinmypants", don't i now know that your bank's password is "chase*ninjainmypants" and your ebay password is "ebay*ninjainmypants"?
This is a serious question btw - i'm sure there's a good reason for doing this as i've heard of many people doing it, but i just never got it...
" (but being just about fresh out of school, I realize I probably need to "pay my dues" for a while)."
just wanted to quickly chime in here - i'm not sure what your major is (i'm a BSEE) but do NOT continue with that mentality. I'm 3 years out of school and i LOVE my job. absolutely LOVE it. (i'm a software/hardware/embedded systems design engineer at a small firm) here's some knowledge i wish i would have had when i grad'd:
1) Do NOT assume that you can't like your job because you're fresh
2) accept that the first job you get may not be the right one.
3) do NOT be afraid to leave your job if you don't like it. (*but you probably should have something lined up if you do leave...)
4) be confident - the senior engineers and the new engineers at my firm get along GREAT. we understand that newbies know some things that the oldies dont (wireless stuff, dsp, etc) and the oldies know a lot of things we dont (low band RF, power supply design, heavy analog stuff)
sorry just wanted to quickly nip that in the bud
: )
I find it much easier to have faith
This sole reason is why religion is still around - you couldn't have said it better : )
i agree - would you like to buy my DISK? it's silver and has the words "district 9 screener" sharpied on it.
but this is legal because, who cares about what's on the disk, right?
I'm confused as to how useful this is - can someone convert blu-ray movies to libraries of congress for me?

note sure if you're serious or not, but "van" had referred to conversion fans or full-size vans. (see: dodge/benz sprinter)
as an iphone user, i can tell you that we would only be able to run that app for about a half hour before our batteries were completely gone.
or many times, MORE

haha i forgot to put '/sarcasm' in there...sorry to scare you like that.
but you forget, none of that is true - the entire universe was created SOLELY for us, by god.
well sure it will take over with a name like 'X'. i mean, you wouldn't hear about planet 'daisy' destroying our civilization
