I'm sure you meant no American People, or no European people. There is no army made up of purely white people. Although you're right, we are far more advanced in robotic technology; does that mean that we shouldn't take advantage of our technologies to try to save a few of our serviceman's lives?
And most plotters plot in multiple colors, this appears to just use 1. It seems like this would take a long time if you wanted to do something in more than 1 color. What would you use this for?
What if you naturally sweat a lot? Would it short it out...or shock you? Not that a lot of us remember the last time we worked up a sweat (without watching pr0n)...but its possible, right?
Wal-Mart has had a cheap workstation for sometime that you can purchase without an OS, or get it with Lindows (I think). They aren't available in stores, only on their website, but its good that there are options out there.
You have to realize that such a large number of "average" internet users love clicking on things. You put a hyperlink on a site, no matter what it is they'll click on it. You add it as an attachment, they'll click on it. No matter how many times you tell them not to, they'll do it anyway. Why?
Apple uses BSD code to make a good operating system and its all sunshine and roses. Good for Apple. I commend them for wanting to make their operating system the best they can for their customers.
Microsoft uses BSD code to make their operating system a little better for their customers and they are the solely driven by greed and power in preservation of their "monopoly". I would think Microsoft has as much right to make their products a little better by using code in the same manner that Apple does without it being deemed an evil use of people's hard work.
Plus, *raises change of subject card* despite what everyone says, even the court system. By the mere fact that alternate operating systems exist, are sold, and are installed; Microsoft does not have a monopoly on the Operating System market. They just have a widely-used product.
How is it wrong for a company to use their company's browser, in their operating system, to launch their music buying site? If you don't like it, use a different OS, or use a different browser, don't use the XP link to buy music. It doesn't seem that hard. What's wrong with a successful company incorporating more than one of their tools to accomplish a goal?
I completely agree. Why is it that people just inherently hate microsoft so much? (aside from the zealots) Its a decent OS, I wouldn't say it was the best by far, but it helped bring personal computers into everyone's home. Although one can argue how much good that did us. I guess without it I wouldn't be in the position I am today..but I digress.
95% of the people I support, all of whom use Windows (mention linux and they think you are talking about a prescription drug for cholesterol) don't even know that windows update exists. I ask if they have anti-virus installed. Yes they answer, meaning they have an extremely out of date version of mc affee waiting to be initialized, never been actually installed or updated. If they go to a website that has some fun new screen saver program or little cartoon for their systray, they think its fun and download it. They don't know that could hurt their system. If a dialog box pops up, they click yes, no matter what it says. They don't know better.
The operating system can only do so much. Sure MS releases their software with security holes, at least they offer patches. Its the responsibility of the user to take care of their system. If you don't patch and take care of your OS, you'll be taken advantage of.
At least they've realized that suing individulas who have downloaded an mp3 is a bad idea. That's not the way to stop people, Its a way to motivate them to find other ways to get it. I think its a noble effort to bring all these areas of technology together to save the poor, failing entertainment industry...but I don't think it will actually accomplish much.

I think computers definitely have a place in schools. I don't like that so much of a failing school's budget is going towards purchasing computers rather than hiring (and properly paying) better teachers. People are too sucked in to the thought that computers will make their kids smarter; parents and school officials alike.
I think that computers can greatly compliment a classroom and a child's learning, I think its important that a child feel comfortable using many different software applications. When they get to High School and out in the real world they will be expected to know how to properly use one.
The problem is, that most teachers and parents think that if they put a child in front of a computer they will learn. That is so far from the truth. Computers are being overused in the classroom and at home. When I was in school, we had to put our spelling words in abc order. Today, kids are allowed to type them and let the computer do it for them. Spell-check has created a generation of people who can't spell to save their lives (forgive my errors, I can spell, I just can't type!). Schools aren't even teaching cursive writing. The teachers simply tell the children to type their work. My students can't even fathom doing simple math equations without a calculator. I wasn't allowed to use a calculator in school until I was in calculus and by that point it really didn't help much!
By allowing our children to use computers for everything we are taking away fundamental learning. They are missing out on vital skills that they will need as adults. Teachers, parents and school officials need to take a step back and look at what's important to a child's future. Having computers around is definitely important, but they should be greatly limited in their day-to-day use in school.
This is just my opinion and my observation on the current situation of schools. We need teachers who actually teach and we need for our kids to actually learn.
If voting could really change things, it would be illegal
Exactly...so why vote? Why try to change things? Hopefully some nice, strong leader will just "take over" our country and tell us how things are going to be rather than let us have any input into our own futures. Wouldn't that be nice and easy. Then we don't have to think about issues, we will be told how to think. I think this idea is grand. If by some odd stretch someone does decide they don't like something our "leader" tells us, we can complain about how we can't change anything. At least we woulndn't have to worry about following issues and voting people into and out of office. Its easier not to have to think. Thinking for ourselves is bad. Plus, we know democracy just doesn't work.
Oh wait, that's called communism, socialism...that's what we want right?
Technology doesn't remove checks and balances, people choose what they do. I eat a lot, I'm overweight. I commute to work, so I sit in traffic for 3 hours every day. Some company sells my email address, I get a lot of spam.
But I can choose to eat less, get a job closer to home, and kill an email account and create a new one. I can choose to change how my life is, technology doesn't necessarily remove the checks and balances in life, it merely changes it and puts more responisbility in my own hands
Besides, if I can't deal with the responsibility, there's always someone to blame it on and sue.
Back in the day, before Napster died, you would have to download 3 versions of the same song before you got one that was encoded well and/or a complete song. If you get 15 downloads, what happens when you get a bad mp3? What if its a live version instead of the studio version? If its still a music swapping service, all these are possibilities. I won't pay almost $1 for half a song.
What are you thinking?? The world revolves around linux zealots, if it doesn't please us we'll start up a big, anti-trust lawsuit against it and pirate all their software!!
I've posted before about this...
One of my coworkers, a real computer wiz, convinced my boss to give her the corporate credit card to purchase a copy of photoshop from an email she got for just $49.95. She was so excited about the "great deal". That was about 7 months ago, I still haven't seen this copy of photoshop come in the mail. I wonder when it will get here. The average population is not very smart, they'll believe anything
Dalton (1766-1844) is widely regarded as the founder of the idea that all matter is made of tiny, indivisible particles called atoms. Although atoms were proposed 2500 years ago in ancient Greece, Dalton's work made them an indispensable part of chemical theory.
yes
I work for a very small private school and we have a wireless lan connecting two wired lans (we have 2 buildings). It works out great because I convinced my boss to FINALLY let me get cable here so that I could share it with the other building. Its great for me, the rest of the school has to suffer with the slow speeds, its still better than the AOL they had. I've often wondered if any of our school's parents are smart enough to come up here with a laptop to try to get into the network, I'm not that worried about anyone else trying to take advantage of it, we are pretty remote here. With my experiences with using wireless at work, I have toyed with the idea of setting one up in my apartment but I don't want to share my bandwidth with my neighbors. But it would be really handy to set up a little wifi and stick all the servers in a different room, they heat up my living room too much. I think this book sounds interesting and will probably go out and buy it.
Their uptime isn't too too bad, 121 days, they just can't stick to an OS...they're preparing for the attack. Netcraft predicted it well #1 wins!
Yeah, no white people, anyway.

Right, but that would take a really, really long time...

It'd make a great little server to play with

Clicking is fun!
So, let me get this straight.
Apple uses BSD code to make a good operating system and its all sunshine and roses. Good for Apple. I commend them for wanting to make their operating system the best they can for their customers.

Don't use windows media player? There were lots of other choices out there, last time I checked.

And of course you have to include your slashdot karma rating. Nothing impresses a potential employer more!
Plus, if its a guage of how much you want to work for the company if they actually get it.

Who needs it? I do. 3 hours in the car every day, I would go crazy without it. Cds aren't enough.

That would require leaving your house for more than a Mt. Dew run.

yes
He taught chemistry but had no experience of chemical research
Resembles some teachers I had in High School
