I personally think you are making a mountain out of a molehill...

Im not a terribly frequent flyer, but I have flown on maybe 20 short international (European) and another 15 long-haul international flights in the last two years (UK-US-UK, UK-AU-US-UK, etc). I have taken my laptop in every case (purchased in Tottenham crt road and "exported" to Australia with a VAT refund). I have only ever once been stopped in Poland (once the woman heard I spoke english, she let me go without a search). I have never seen anyone else stopped by customs in any of the countries I have been to.

Thats right. It *isn't* a democracy. He can sit on those movies until the grave and then have the originals destroyed and there is not one damn thing you can do about it.

    (2) The actual recipe that is used is Crown Lager. ie. When you are drinking overseas Fosters, you are actually drinking Crown. Last time I lived in Australia (3 years ago) Crown was still very popular.
Here in the UK, Fosters is nothing like it is back home and is actually quite a good beer.

    Couple of points:

    (1) Name a musical instrument that plays frequencies at 20KHz. The highest note on a violin is 3.5KHz. The top of the piano scale is 4.1KHz. In an orchestra, the only instrument faster than 5KHz is the pipe organ.

    (2) Even if you manage to name one, one of the most frequent misconceptions about listening to sound is the very often quoted "20-20 human listening range". Thats just like saying "Humans can run a mile in 4 minutes". Yeah, it's true, but can you do it? I doubt even Audiophile "Golden Ears" couldn't hear above 16KHz.

    (3) Okay, even if you have golden 20/20 ears and play a custom made instrument that vibrates to 20KHz, I have one last point. Digital may have sampling problems, but *all* analog systems have noise which rides ontop of the signal (Yes, even your studio class-A ref amps).

You can write down as much math as you want, but in the real world, most people can't tell the difference between digital & analog at fairly decent settings.

    er, No.

There are some exceptions of course.. but for most movies, the theatrical release is just to get advertising for the video rental market. Very few major studio flicks (Id say 1 in 10) make their full production costs back in theatres.

The *real* money is in licensing to domestic TV, different (foreign) markets, video rentals and DVD sales.

To use the british independent film market as an example, there have only been 2 independent movies in the last 20 years that have turned a profit from the theatrical release. (ie made back the costs of striking the prints and advertising)

A normal shooting ratio on a feature film is around 5:1 or 6:1. 10:1 isn't really that high, especially when you consider (1) their budget and (2) the fact they had around 30 35mm cameras available to shoot multiple angles, etc.

It's a movie thats an adaptation of a book. In all the screenwriting books I've read, it tells the reader (and drives the point home many times) that if they are writing an adaptation, they are under NO obligation to follow the story line, or even have the same ending.

Film is a completely different medium to books. Whats easy to do in a book is difficult to do on film and vice versa (eg: It's easy to tell the reader what a character is thinking in a book. It's very difficult in a film without using voice-over).

In short, stop bitching and be glad the film follows the books as closely as they do.
