    Gerber is a great company and I've liked every knife I've bought from them (and it's been several). So when I was in the Navy I decided to buy one of thier multitoolts rather than a leatherman and the salt air started rusting it within a few days. This happened to all the other sailors I knew that had other models also.

    Yeah but the whole point of archiving is to not have to retranscribe everything very often. Imagine if book paper had a shelf life measured in 10's of years or less and you were a librarian at the library of congress. Or you were an archivist trying to preserve the documents of some importent person.

    Then by your definition since a movie is made by a team it's not art. I know the argument to this is that a movie has a strong director whos vision shapes the movie but anyone with input changes the final result. e.g. Kubrick made Dr Strnglove but would it have been the same without Peter Sellers or Slim Pickins?

    Ubuntu its based on Debian so it's got all that apt goodness but the installer is way easier to use and the community (ubuntulinux.org) is really great. And as a good cherry on top they'll even ship you a pressed cd with the install disk and a live version.

    So now theres two Beowulf movies coming soon and two War of the Worlds. I think its interesting to watch interpretations of the same source material by very different teams of filmakers. But I think this is the first time airs of movies have opened so near each other in time.

    The results of a science experiment don't always have to be immediatly practicle. The world needs a new reneable source of energy, if not to replace oil then at least to supplament it. Research and experamentaion like this and the sunflower oil fuel cell story from yesterday may not be commercially viable themselves but who's to say what they might lead to.
