  1. Re:Unreal engine 3 on E3 - Metal Gears, Jungle Beats, Unreal Tech? · · Score: 5, Informative

Per the Unreal Technology site, Unreal Engine 3 is completed and ready to be licensed. As to when we will see games on it, I think it would be safe to say no sooner than mid next-year for PC games. Hopefully UT2k5 will be on this engine. For console gaming, wait for the next generation, about 2006 or so. This just announced: The Duke Nukem Forever team has announced that they are switching engines to the Unreal Engine 3! They apologize, but this will unfortunately add another year or 2 delay. :)

Since when do we have any right to pick on the way others dress? :) Miyamoto is just a very excited man, and he is a little over the edge. I think it helps him crank out the amazing ideas that he does. I say as long as he keeps pumping out the great games, he could come on stage in a pink tutu, for all I care. Actually, scratch that...

  3. DEV KITS! :) on Sony, IBM Announce Cell Workstation For PS3 Dev · · Score: 3, Funny

Wow. I have to say I am so amazed. Get this: Sony has released DEV KITS for their new console. I've never heard of this before! This must be that new-fangled, next generation game development stuff here. Personally, I found it MUCH more interesting when M$ started sending out G5's as Dev Kits. I tried to tell them I'm writing up a great Xbox 2 game, but alas, no Dev Kit to my door.

Actually, Matrix Online isn't Sega's big announcement. Just wait until Friday, when Sega announces that they will be publishing Duke Nukem Forever for the Nintendo Gamecube. Now that's big news!

You seriously think that the PSP looks 'ungainly and unappealing'? I'm not much of a Sony fanboy, and had no plans on getting one, but after seeing the pics, I have to say that it most certainly looks 'gainly', and it's so sexy. I wouldn't be ashamed to carry it around and play it, just like I feel about my SP. The DS is something I don't think I'd feel good about playing in too public a place.

  8. Good news/Bad News on Microsoft wants Automatic Update for Windows · · Score: 1

I really hate hearing news like this. On one hand, I think it's a great idea, because there are far too many morons out there who don't know how to update and patch their OS. This would be such a help for it. Of course, I'm not sure that I want MS automagically installing software on my computer, especially if it is without my knowledge. Why don't we have an agent program like the antivirus updates, that when the computer starts, it looks out on the net for updates, then informs the user of the updates, the size, and what they do. Then the user has the control to download them or not, but at least the updates will be right in their face. Either that or don't allow them on the net to spread virii. Of course, maybe we should block all MS OS users from the net. Looks like I need to install Linux...

  9. Mining bugs on Iron-eating Bug Found to Thrive in 121C Heat · · Score: 2, Interesting

Could these be put into a pressurized, heated slurry and pumped into the earth, then sucked back out after they stewed for a while? Could we use this as a method of mining iron from previously thought 'dead' mines? If these 'bugs' excrete FeO2 as a waste product, it shouldn't be too much of a problem to take that iron oxide and turn it back into iron.

I think the point about this increasing the feasability of Martian organisms is just that sometimes, life can exist in places that you wouldn't expect, combined with the fact that they live off of iron, which of course is plentiful on Mars.

  11. 'Additional Content' on Dead Or Alive Hackers Get Creative · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think that this 'hacking' is a great thing. I don't really see a difference between this and making a mod for Q3A or UT2k3. Maybe the n00d patch was a little useless, but adding this kind of 'mod-ability' to a (supposedly) closed console system is good. For those who have chosen to mod their XBox, this extends the functionality of the games, making you pick them back up after you may be all done with them.

  13. More video? on War Game To Use Troop-Filmed DoD Footage · · Score: 4, Insightful

I think today's games are going a little overboard in the amount of video and the importance of it. Take for example Metal Gear Solid 2. You spend more time watching than playing. At first it was neat to have the whole 'interactive movie', but it does get slow after a while. I am all for a realistic war game, but the developers should make sure that the video is used solely for accent, not the whole thing. Of course, having the talking heads in between levels might be good, but it could turn out to suck. Film at 11.

This is a shining example of how Sony can totally ignore reality. They cannot really fight the grey market, why waste the time and money to have Indian PS2s? Also, is the market over there really that big? I have no experience, having never been to India. Are there really a lot of people willing and able to put down $400 just for a game system?
