    In the US diesel cars and light trucks are all but banned due to a poorly written emission regulation.
    You have to get a F250 size truck before the restrictions ease.
    So people who want a diesel are often buying much bigger than they really want.
    If you look at the vehicle manufactures websites from other countries you see all kinds of great high milage diesel options.
    Take a look for yourself.

    I have a large collection of older Macs, all except one running OS 9 or less.
    Please tell me how to listen to iTunes music across my home network without having to spend my time burning and reripping everything I buy?

    They deserve to have it ripped out.
    One of the reasons it is so wide spread is that MS has been quietly paying content providers to use Windows Media player, especially porn.
    It is pretty easy for your product to become widely used when you pay people to use it.
    Do you really want to concede control over multimedia content to MS?
    This would be much worse for the internet.

    Give iTunes a try for ripping.
    I have been able to rip totally unplayable CDs with my PowerBook.

    Actually, the hydrogen did not burn until it had escaped and mixed with air.
    At this point it did little to effect the actual incident.
    It would not have made any differance what was inside the gas bags.

    If a computer is a tool, you want it to get work done with minimum downtime.
    Buying quality equipment is often cost effective to this end.
    If a computer is a hobby, well, the point of a hobby is to waste time.
    Clearly the computer is not my hobby.
    If the computer was my hobby, buying junk to play with sounds like a good plan.
    One of is "bright" enough to know the differance between work and a hobby.

    You make many incorrect assumptions.
    I in no way consider myself a conservative or a liberal for that matter.
    I observe the world around me and do my best to draw my own conclusions.
    I have been lucky in live to have interacted with a wide variety of people.
    I have friends on welfare, friends in subsidized housing, friends that are multi millionaires, and everything in between.
    It is very apparent if you take the time to look at the habits of those around you how they got where they are.
    Life is the sum of the decisions you make.
    I cite pages and pages of specific choices but if you don't want to see, I can't show you.

    Every time I see the "I can build it myself for cheaper" post it makes me laugh.
    Sure you can, but only because your time is worth nothing.
    For me, my time valuable to me on a personal level and in dollars and cents.
    So I just can't see spending thousands of dollars worth of my time to save a few hundred.
    So you go scrounging for a motherboard and I'll finish this post and then go spend some time with my son.

    I really have a problem with this whole line of thinking.
    It seems to infer that being rich or poor is somehow the fault of the government or some external force.
    Sure some people are born into richer or poorer families.
    However I think the larger factor of an individuals personality, drive and work habits are a much bigger factor.
    Some people are just lazy by nature and will do just enough work not to starve, while others have an amazing internal drive to succeed and excel.
    No ill-conceived government taxation program is going to change this.
    This is not to say that sometimes people need a little help to get thier lives turned around.
    But when it comes down to the whole idea about the rich keeping the poor down, I just don't buy it.

    At some point people are going to have to accept the fact that digital data is copyable and you cannot change that.
    Accepting this fact will let them move on to a business model that uses copying and free distribution to make a profit.
    Perhaps shameless "Wayne's World" style product placement?
    Perhaps old early TV style adds done by the personalities?
    Then tell your advertisers, "we had X downloads and our projections say they will share it Y number of times."
    "Now pay us for X+Y viewers."
