Atleast its better than his "brain-not-like-computers" story from a couple of days ago.
Ill advertise this cool greasemonkey script again for those who always feel dirty after they land on primidi.com : De-Piquepaille Slashdot
How about a passive-agressive protest, where this script is extended to not only ignore the story, but automatically post an "I've boycotted this Roland Piquepaille advert"
Sorry, no, thats being a tad stupid. Its just been SUCH a boring news day...
Thats why everyone needs to install this super dooper greasemonkey script: De-Piquepaille Slashdot
It blocks stories submitted by Roland. Of course, you'd have to have installed greasemonkey. Which I forgot to do on re-install and hence saw this fucking stupid article.
Agreed! I am slowly learning assembly language for the c64 from an old kids book i found for 50 cents. It actually MAKES SENSE now - It is often easier to understand things once you know its roots.
I dont know how well that'll translate to win32 assembler, but I know learning the insides of the 6510 is heaps more fun than learning asp.net!
Thats how i read it too - heres a "software" version of this "technology" using two interlaced jpgs and a xbm mask..
I'm imaging this is how the physical one is working too. kind of.
Agreed!
Words of the day so far: menagerie, faction, aficionado
There should at least be a "next word" function, so you can skip to a word you didn't learn when you were a kid.
I mostly mostly agree with you on this one... 99.9% of all blogs (and indeed anything people "share") are gunna be crap. But it does mean that over time the good stuff floats to the top. Every webdesign blog I go to has a link to alistapart. It becomes easy to find the good stuff.
And all the other stuff just sits there not harming anyone. And its good that people write stuff, rather than spending that half hour watching tv, or doing something useful... Its good to work out your brain even if no one in the world is interested! (heres my brain workout:)
I should hope that by 2005 it is 0% - it fucking should be! I don't know if this is an excuse make us Firefoxers feel good about themselves or just a leftover misconception from 1997, but no one uses useragent cloaking, and if they should then they are a pretty low level nerd... All us nerds learnt to stop that practise when they found out it hindering us.
It seems that the only reason to bring up user-agent cloaking on slashdot is to try and grab some mod points.
I just expanderised the whole thing to have a look at how it works and there are some cool smallerizing tricks going on. Like the text that appears above the icons is actually the images alt tag ( title.innerHTML = k.getElementById( imagename ).alt ) . great idea.
Also the declaration of z = Array thats cool
I wonder if it was hand-smallerized, or via machiney, 'cause there is "x = false;" but no "y = true;" - true is only used a couple of times throughout the script.
There seems to be more and more articles of this nature on slashdot these days. Search for "peak oil" and today and you'll get twice as many results as yesterday.
Are we in a bit of a state of emergency, or is just something to fill in the news until the next war/economic crisis/natural disaster?
I bet they'd be pissed to learn that the fruit of their endeavors would be making backing tracks for "pop stars" (though I reckon they'd be stoked about SquarePusher)

Nows my chance to sell all the wasabi-peas I've collected that look like statler and/or waldorf.
Good times ahead!
All of the hilarious domains are substantially less funny when you pronounce the dot. win dot tel? I dont geddit?

hmmm, I like the way you think. Where's your blog on the subject?
Yeah, is he REALLY interested to see what the slashdot community concieves???? He must be new around here. Or have a penchant for stupidity.

Or do what I did - re-program all your old games in DHTML - runs on todays hardware, at yesterdays speeds
..Especially when combined with XUL

I thought if something is a commodity then it is widely and easily available to all. Like electricity is a "commodity".
Incase you are really wonderin...
The Japanese word for cancer is gun.
The Japanese word for gun in gun.
But you wernt wondering... were you.

As the smoke clears, several dead slashdotters lay motionless on the floor...
"Well partner," mutters the handsome, yet dangerous looking nmoog "looks like I wins this here dupe-quick-draw."
Looks dupey...
What is this some kind of irish joke?
The singing bass is just a technology too. Some things deserved to be loathed.
Was it difficult to learn? The language barrier is the only thing that has stopped me travelling to phpedia.

Reminds me of the CD-ROM Acronym joke that circulated way back when...
Q. What does CD-ROM stand for?
A. Consumer Device - Rendered Obsolete in Months.
Who needed CD's now that we had Zip disks? 100 megabytes, and rewriteable!

(p.s. I'm not taking any chances. I'm learning the important survival skillz)
Well, good news is that it shouldn't be around for much longer
Be sure to learn all thats needed to survive in style in the chaotic post oil world.
When people first used electronics to make noises they certainly made some fucked up ones (Electronic Musical Instrument 1870 - 1990)
I bet they'd be pissed to learn that the fruit of their endeavors would be making backing tracks for "pop stars" (though I reckon they'd be stoked about SquarePusher)
