  1. Party lines? on Landline Holders Increasingly Older, More Affluent · · Score: 1

I remember reading the term "Party Line" in Mad magazine. That lead me to believe that it was some kind of telephonic swingers service. Following the link from the article I'm even more confused than ever! What the heck is a party line?!!

I don't necessarily agree with it - what do you think?" And there-by avoid the flames of hurtful slashdotters!

That's great that Firefox doesn't hog memory on your machine. But for heaps of people it does. Even the Mozillazine KB says "For most users, Firefox doesn't use an abnormally large amount of memory. For others, however, Firefox's memory consumption is a major problem."

I use firefox at least 15 hours a day (9 hours of work, 6 hours of play :) I need to restart it at least once a day, and I crash it regularly - at least every other day. Sure I have a bunch of extensions (I know which extensions are supposed to leak etc) but that is THE idea of Firefox - have a lean browser that you add to to meet your requirements.

It's by far my favourite browser but it's not rock solid.

Thats what I said in The Fonz uses AJAX to spy on you (ajax-fueled text adventure included) - but as everyone will point out to you in overly angry tones, that could have been done a zillion years ago with a hidden iframe. I think the difference now is that people are thinking about how to apply ajax, so you are gettin all sorts of new and cool applications. Which also means you are getting all sorts of new and evil applications :)

I keep trying Linux, and keep moving back to windows. Each time I go Linux I stay there for longer and longer. Until I do stupid things and Linux wont boot because I tried to re-compile the kernal without reading any docs.

The thing that I've got out of it though, is that my windows environment is becoming more and more open-source-filled. I cant believe I was so used to using WinZip and pressing "Accept" everytime I wanted to open a zip file, etc.

Whenever I look for any kind of program now I go straight to sourceforge. I only started doing this because of my rounds of Linux using.

Eventually, Ill master Linux and never come back. But until then I think Ive got it pretty good with the "best of both worlds"
