"I'm not at all certain he should get the choice not to." --AuMatar
Despite my pro-communism and pro-technological-singularity ideas, i still disagree with this opinion. It is important for everyone to have the ability to make choices. If this happened to me, I would want it to be my decision, not the states, not the worlds, not the/. community.
If someone of that age was able to master the use of the device to the point where it became it's new set of legs I don't see a problem. If an old person was going to fall down they will do it with or without the machine under them. I believe they would be less likely to fall with the machine simply because it requires less mental and physical effort to operate than real legs. That is the beauty of this concept.
I could be wrong but I always assumed that companies have warranties because it is a selling point just like every other good feature they list on their box. It is then up to the consumer to decide if that warranty is acceptable. Nobody was forced to buy all that software, people just didn't seem to mind that nobody was offering a warranty.
One of his common setups involves a computer with a Pentium 4 processor, at least 512 gigabytes of memory and a specialized operating system based on Linux. I'm assuming he doesn't need a 512GB hard drive but rather, 512 megabytes of ram. And if this isn't a typo, where can I buy a 512GB stick of ram?
The graph of computing (and for that matter, evolutionary) power is not a strait line. It increases exponentialy so you cannot make assumptions about what technology will be line in 30 years based on the last 30 years because it will not be the same.
How does it cost money to dowload music? Do you mean paying for the internet connection, because you would have to pay for that regardless if you are actualy using it.
Heh, and i'm content with the 512 card in my pocket pc. The only reason this looks appealing to me is the flack option. I figure 512 worth of mp3's would still fit in 20GB if they were flacks instead. Also, the pocket pc is hard to get going.. as in you can't really just whip it out and start listening.
A friend of mine says he got a error message or something like it in kazaa. It was a big long thing about how file sharing is illegal bla bla. Anyway, it scared him into unninstalling kazaa. I told him he was being an idiot but i'm pretty sure he hasn't re-installed it...
wow, that sounds a lot like my miracle device! Only mine can also run IRC, view websites such as slashdot, and I can post live journal comments with it. Want to know what it is called? A Pocket Pc...
If you are really concerned about getting caught then just disable sharing. They are only sueing those who share massive amounts of music, not the ones who dowload it. Also, if you don't want to be a little basterd that doesn't share then check out eMule. From what I have read, it isn't being watched by the RIAA and it is very popular.
I serriously doubt the money they are collecting from people amounts to very much. It might pay a fraction of what it cost to spend time searching for the people in the first place.
AOL IS NOT A GOOD THING! This was a bad program to begin with. They have convinced people that their services are actualy valuable but in reality, everything you can do and pay for with AOL can be had for free elsewere. They just know the average person will stick with AOL because they like the stupid "You've got mail" sound clip. It took me such a long time convincing my mom that eMail is not what she was paying for with AOL. What you should be paying for is the connection to the internet. eMail, instant messages, internet browsing, are all free services that AOL packed into one clumsey program.
It is not ok for a program to just re configure settings on your computer. I don't dissagree that there was probably a disclaimer in the agreement you have to say yes to but that doesn't make it ok. It is a very shady thing to do. This makes me wonder what else you have to agree to with AOL. How many souls do you think they have collected?
I never said smartphone was a specifac model. But the catagory smartphone reffers to Cell Phones that have limited PDA functions. There is another catagory that had PDA's with integrated cell phones but they are not considered smartphones.
obviously you missed my point. Halflife doesn't require a cd to play so all you need is the iso file and deamon toolz or a friend with a cd burner, or a copy of the game and then you give the copy back to the friend. It is very free, and there are hacks to get invalid cd keys for lans. The only place you would have to play is for online.
Don't forget counterstrike. You can play CS on the crapiest machine or the most up to date machine and it will still be fun. At one lan party there was a kid playing it on a comp built out of scrap parts in software mode with a ball mouse and he had the highest score. And it's pretty much free so everyone can play it!
I don't know what you are reffering to but the device known as a "Smartphone" does NOT have a touch screen. There are PDA's with phones in them that have touch screens but the smartphone does not.

The "Smart Phone" is a phone with PDA functions. Unfotunatly they do not have touch screens. You have to do everything with the 3x3 number pad. They do make PDA's with cell phones integrated but they don't have as nice specs as the newer PDA's and unless you get an expensive plan they charge you by the KB.
I read one of the articles on this and mabey I missed something but where is this energy coming from? If there is no input of energy then how is there an output. Or have they figured out a loop-hole in the law of thermo-dynamics by finaly creating a perpetual motion machine.
This is a hypothetical but what if all these waves going through our bodies and brains is slowly killing us and by the time we relise whats happening it will be too late. There was a post some time ago in responce to the mothers who sued a school over this that said there where reports of incresed headaches but higher productivity. What about unborn babies... what is the effect on them. I guesse we won't find out for another 20 years when they grow up and enter society.
Your reffering to the Tungsten T. I have that, got it around when it came out. To be honest I never really used the bluetooth exept for the first week when my friend and I used the bluetooth chat program they give you. But that got old fast and i never used it again.
On another note, my keyboard and mouse are also bluetooth. I got that microsoft set for $150. Also not a great buy. If you are just going to use your computer at home then I would recomend getting a regular wireless keyboard and mouse. The bluetooth set is better for an office environment where it is possible for somebody to have the same set as you and the signals might cross. Bluetooth has a security feature that makes it so only your keyboard and mouse can talk to your computer.
This is a very important topic, even for slashdot. I don't know if this is true for the rest of the country but my friends (who are nerds) are mostly all atheist and we do not recite the pledge of alligiance. A few of them stand for it but I remain sitting. A few teachers made a fuss about it but the most hostility came from other students. Also, the reason I don't stand for the pledge is not because of the "under god" part. I just don't like how we are expected to pledge our allegiance blindly. What elementary student knows what they are saying? I'm not saying they need to stop pledging everyday, but they should make it more socialy acceptable to choose not to. I am one of mabey 5 people that doesn't stand and I feel others would join if they weren't shunned for it...

They could assemble it in many pieces in orbit and then take off from there.

Secure E-mail ! Thats an oxymoron!

I doubt the US government will give in very easily to this. I wouldn't be surprised if the president of the SciFi channel goes missing.
