but the fact that you can install Linux on these systems, could do a lot for their market share
I sincerely hope you were just joking right? You couldn't seriously think that this magical "install Linux on a Console" market has the potential to do
anything for the market share.. Do you? Oh gosh.. you do..
I wholeheartedly agree.. Same with my N80.. and the browser on this version of symbian is nothing short of amazing.. pocket IE is an amateur hack by comparison..
Maybe I am wrong but couldn't you simply drag the mp3s on the ipod in disk mode and then copy off the files to the new pc and import into itunes? Not quite as "slick" but perfectly effective.. oh and you can't even use the zune in disk mode?!?!? WTF is that?
The all-in-one design is dysfunctional - it leads to replacement not upgrading and you are always throwing out perfectly good screens.
You are correct on this point, however I would guess that a lot of people are fine with replacing a machine they have been using for 3 years or so.. lets see, I can upgrade my video card, motherboard (to accept a newfangled cpu), ram to be able to play the latest FPS in my 3 year old PC case or just buy new machine with better screen, cpu, ram, hdd, optical drive, version of the OS etc etc.. for that and hand off my old one to someone who can still use it for email/web/Normal stuff..and not have to put in so much effort for not that fantastic of a return.. PCs are not like classic cars..no one is impressed you still have your circa 1996 packardbell with a quad sli video card..
Apple is a terrible company, not because of the products, not even because of DRM, not because of overpricing, but because of the way it engages in cult marketing in collusion with the MacFanatics. It has deliberately tried and considerably succeeded in persuading people to have feelings for a company that would be better felt towards something higher, and one of the worst aspects of this strategy is its continual efforts to irritate outsiders. Its as if some tiny church were to continually take out ads portraying all non-members as degenerates. It would certainly cement the devotion of the faithful. But at what cost?
Hmm, I always thought running a business meant you were looking to make money which Apple seems to be doing.. Furthermore I can guess that you also hate BMW, Mercedes,Lexus,Rolex,Omega, "insert high end vendor in any space" here who markets to consumers.. I mean its not like "The pursuit of perfection" screams elitism or "The ultimate driving machine" says that everyone not in a bimmer is a degenerate..Right?
And of course no one mentioned the second part of that line.. That apple is even more upset with itself for not having caught it prior to going out the door. Why would they put it in context.. People are really jackasses.
Well, I am not defending them too much but they did perform more than gaming benchmarks..ie large file encryption, photoshop rendering etc etc.. so i am not sure what you're saying... as for ignoring that it is a notebook, well, it would seem to me that if I were looking for a "notebook" as opposed to a "desktop replacement" I wouldn't be looking at a 17" laptop that weighs 10 pounds.. maybe something a little more portable and less exhausting to tote around. And OF COURSE BATTERY LIFE IS GOING TO SUCK!! it always will with present day standards.. Of course I would love a 17" screen, 8GB,1TB HDD, 7GHZ super efficient ultralowvoltage cpu with 12 cores that gets 36 hours of battery life on a single charge running Wireless, bluetooth, playing a dvd, running Bittorrent, while playing Prey, and doing video compression and opening Notes(which stinks!!), thunderbird and doing repeated full system AV scans...
I have no problem with this attitude or scenario... If MS is going to be responsible for any damages incurred by a security hole created by this piece of software Which I sincerely doubt; furthermore, if I paid 100 dollars for the product I expect a certain lee way with how I maintain it. I don't see VW shutting my car off because I get oil changes every 6K instead of 5K.
Oh.. I wouldn't be so sure about that vast wealth of his.. last summer I was at the Jersey shore with my g/f and we watched in disbelief as none other than Wierd Al walked in and spent the next 3 hours hosting Karaoke night at some awful bar. Not that he had that far to fall after "Fat" or "like a surgeon" but still.. he did/does have some notoriety.. Very sad..
Perhaps XM did not wish to renegotiate the existing contract (which by the way is the most lucrative contract with a broadcast company the RIAA has) I think Xm has every reason to defend itself. If they do not stand up to them now they are f**ked longterm.
This lawsuit is laughable at best. It also makes me wonder why Sirius was not named as they also have a device that records hours of content.
Actually its more like.... OH no! 4 very loud soundbite slinging douche constituents and/or some info-tainment/news show are complaining ! I must assume everyone else cares too! I must get re-elected! What half assed POS bill can I support to let everyone know I am good guy!
15 minutes ago on the front page of Digg was a link to a review of the two sites with Slashdot taking a vicious beating from the Obvious Digg Fan... Now its "buried" the second this article is posted here.. Wierd..
isn;t this the exact concept of the hugely successful "Patriot" missile system? Preemptively stiking an incoming projectile? Albeit a mush smaller faster scale.. Not a forcefield.. Silly geese
This sounds like the exception... a couple years ago I was checking my bank account online and noticed some odd charges. I called the bank and asked for the merchant and it turns out some tool ordered sneakers and other sporting goods and had them shipped to Ireland. I let my bank know I had never been to Ireland and they nixed the card immediately. I went into the nearest branch, signed a form stating I did not make the purchases and got my new card and the next day my money was back in my account. My current Bank is actually proactive and has sent me debit cards with new numbers, I guess I use mine a bit too much for their liking..:)
Well, I think he should be able to make a couple assumptions..
1. anyone reading slashdot using some flavor of linux or mac or windows w/firefox opera etc is not going to care about his post
and
2. Anyone reading slashdot being forced to use IE will probably be aware of what the command might do.. and if not, I am pretty sure they know what Google is..
(Granted there are exceptions however its still a good bet. My Mother would give me a blank stare should I ask her about/.)
Oh yeah..Sirius will just dominate with a washed up rip off artist working 4 days a week on 3 channels and Martha Stewart! 7.5 mill a year for martha Stewart? Sirius is looking to be bought by XM or an unnamed media company. They are not serious about the long term. Thier losses are widening each quarter, and that does not include the 500 million they are giving to Howard. Granted he has a large following, but I sincerely doubt 8 million are going to sign up for Sirius. The technology they have stinks, and he has been mailing it in for a while now. Most of his fans are not going to spend money on that type of show.
Not as long as they have no problem with their complete and utter lack of accountability of any type, and the vicious, one-sided partisan nature designed solely to incite vitriol in their groupthink audiences.
Not while they do nothing more than constantly pat each other on their virtual backs and reinforce their own worldviews and twisted near-conspiracy theories, ignoring any and all other sides of the story while simultaneously thinking of themselves as "open minded" and the only revealers of "the truth".
Wow.. i thought that was a fairly accurate description of Fox News/CNN/et al... Kudos.. Seriously, just because there is some global corporation producing "news and information",doesn't mean its completely reliable and certainly not a guarantee of being unbiased. That being said..the big news Corps usually make a presentation with better grammar..
I'm missing out on the chance to pay by the kb over a wireless connection at modem speeds versus getting usually T1 speeds over a hotspot connection for a free or nominal charge?? I feel ripped off... The man holding me down again.. Bastards
and of course BCCC grows their own right out back? Where do they get thier latin american blend? From Boston? Thier african variety must be from Erie.. All commercial coffee houses not along the equator have thier coffee shipped from"thousands of miles a away".. last time I checked Indonesia/Africa/Latin America were not right around the corner..
Does geographic location really have anything to do with your particular taste in this case? and btw, the Starbucks coffee in your area gets their roasting done in York PA, not quite the other side of the world...
if your taking that many 15 hour non stop flight, you should be garnering a tremendous amount of freq. Flyer miles, which you could use to upgrade to 1st class, where they usually offer a plug for each seat.. depends on the carrier, but I have run across it a lot...
Cheers

Sure.. and they could only sell their own original programming you dolt. Its not apple pushing DRM, it's the content creators.
I beleive Apple.com has info on the laptop... and it can handle the slashdot\digg effect...
And of course no one mentioned the second part of that line.. That apple is even more upset with itself for not having caught it prior to going out the door. Why would they put it in context.. People are really jackasses.
or perhaps.. "dude, you pulled a Zune"
I beleive he was being facetious about the his 'Right". Stop being a literal larry. Silly goose.

The risk of losing your eyesight due to contact use (fungus or other infections) is probably not much less than the risk involved with lasik etc..
