Sometimes I feel like getting some of that old school paper with the little red and blue lines to keep your letters inside of and practicing. I wonder if typing so much is what plagues our generations handwritting skills, lol. I do the same thing as the poster of the story, some letters are print, I use some capitals and some lwer case, whichever version of a letter I find most convinient. I use a weird combo of cursive blurbs and upper case print.
MS releasing patches reminds me of a cartoon character trying to stop a dam from leaking where they are stretching and using poles and brooms and all of their fingers and toes to stop all of the little water leaks.
G4 has to have some type of a deal with Sony because they are the biggest PS2 fanboys I have ever seen. Ok, let me rant for a minute. Of all of the gaming being created right now and all of the great PC and Xbox games coming out, the PS2 which is now severely old and has hardware that is ancient and not capable of much, all they show is PS2 games.
Even in G4TV's coverage of E3, almost all they showed was PS2 upcoming stuff, not mentioning anything about what is new on PC and Xbox or Gamecube.
Anyone who has watched it surely knows this. If it is a TV show about video games, get ready to hear how great the games of whoever payed them are. They pay no attention to what the REAL gaming community cares about, they only care about sales numbers and marketing revenue. Halo comes out on PC, Battlefield 1942, Battelfield Vietnam in the works, and all they talk about is the new Jax and Dexter game.:(
And Will Wheaton and Travis Oats left the G4TV show Arena because they used BOTS on the show, and then spliced in shots of the real gamers playing games, but what you saw on the screen most times was bots. Wheaton and Oats disagreed with this practice, and also with the poor treatment of the in studio gaming clans that participated in the show. Wheaton was quoted as saying "they treated them as though they were lucky to even be in the studio and not to complain about anything." So if you want to watch a bunch of computer bots play old a$$ games like Mech Assault against each other then that is your show.
The most powerful platforms for gaming are as follows.
The PC - can be upgraded constantly, and patches for games come out quickly and there is the greatest number or servers and players for games on PC than on any console. Also it shows your Ping ot games so you can tell if people are lying about lag or not, and your game is more customizable with mods, skins, custom level design, and loads of other things that are simply not possible with a console.
The Xbox - Even though the PS2 has online service, this console truly brought online gaming to the television set and controller with Xbox Live. It has tons of subscribers, one low fee for all of their Live games (50 dollars a year), and great voice communication through the Xbox Live communicator Headset featuring many different audio channels and even a friends list, etc.
The Gamecube has optional online attatchment and from what I am aware of no online games as of yet. Decent graphics, but really poor hardware inside and aimed at an audience of about 8 years old.
PS2 - Not readily available at it's launch, so/so online service plagued by cheating, different monthly charges for each game, lack of online titles, and porr graphics, alsoit allows people on dial up connections to play which means major L-A-G. So when I connect with my high speed it is frustrating to be in the same room playing with some guy who is using his 500 free hours of NetZero dial up. lol.
Keeping all of the above factors in mind G4TV's coverage and bias is very obvious, and I am sure that it will be equal or greater with this new Network TV video game show. I predict that moderate to occasional gamers will find it kind of cool, and the hard core community will hate it.
Should be under the Pseudo-Science category along with all of the Astrology info and pictures of Logs floating in lakes that look like dinosaur heads. lol.
Ease of use has a lot to do with it. would love ot use Linux and only Linux, but I play tons of Online games, and to do this easily, I just need my main machine at home to run XP.
And I think XP is (hold up sheild to block the hurled rocks) a decent, and I say decent, not awesome, OS. f you know what you are doing with Windows and what to watch out for it can be a good OS.
If games worked more easily, and some of them at all, on Linux, I would switch. But for now I have to have my SOF2 Server up and runnning, and my Halo PC server, so my main machine is on Windows XP. I think a lot of hardcore gamers are forced to use Windows because of issues like this. If Linux could make all f the games work seemlessly and easily it would gain 60% of the online gaming audience most likely.
I have heard that games like Unreal Tournament 2k4 is coming out with a Mac edition and a Linux edition, whether these will play on the same servers against people running it on Windows I do not know, but if it doesn't, it needs ot be played wih the windows people as well, otherwise I will be forced to buy it on Windows because there will be more and more populated servers under the most popular OS's version.
And I think helping my parents out is bad with Windows, I cannot even begin to fathom helping them with Linux. I think Linux is right where it belongs, in the hands of the hard core community. My only immediate hope for it is full support and easy installation for Windows based Video Games. So for know I settle for having an old 450Mhz PC with an old version of Red Hat on it, and my two fast machines that I occassionally run Knoppix on.
If they leave your name on it and are giving you credit for your work and time invested, I would be flattered to have it in Online Encyclopedia's etc. But if they are copying all of the text and images from your site and just using them and omitting your name from it, and it is a blatant copy of your page, I would write them and explain how much time and effort went into making it, and that they acknowledge your name.
I remember a story similar to this, and I may have even read it here on/. but I am not sure. About Butterflies wings being colored to look like company logos. Genetics breakthroughs are being used to do productive things at least. Can you imagine going to the zoo and seeing a huge grizly bear that has red fur and a coca cola logo on the side of it?
I like the commercials that show all of the guys who build the sets and the props, and paint and saw, and then Ben Afleck and Steven Speilberg come on the screen telling me how bad it is to pirate movies, and how it hurts those working people...and I think...how likely is it that this scenario will happen. (studio executive talking to construction worker on set) "Hey Bob, we busted some kid in North Dakota making copies of the Hulk DVD, so there's a little something extra in your check this week." lmao.
The ARMY can't help with the AOL cd's, but there is a few organizations that are trying to. There is one arganization that is trying to collect a million of them (probably the amount that AOL delivers to ONE Barnes and Noble location alone..lol) and then send them all back ot AOL headquarters. Click here to check out www.nomoreaolcds.com
Just to point out another fact of life. I think a lot of peoples reason for getting high speed internet is pornography. I used to work for Qwest, and all of the time people talked about upgrading from dial-up to highspeed so they could watch "streaming video" online. And I really doubt they meant going to mtv.com to watch backstreet boys videos.
Don't forget about.tv lmao.
So now companies will have to make sure and secure yet another domain name when starting a company. Now nokia.com,.net,.biz, and.mobile will all go to the same place.....WOW!
Exactly. A company has nothing to gain by stopping the average consumer from downloading music.
I don't know if any of you are like me or not, but if it was not possible to download music, I wouldn't buy any of it. I would rather not have any music than have to pay $15.99 for a cd with two good songs.
Not to mention, artists need to put on more and better live performances. They should not be able to spend two weeks in a studio and rake in millions and millions. People like Jennifer Lopez, who are essentially recording artists, and do their album, and hardly ever a live performance after are ridiculous. They are most often the ones who complain about consumer downloading. I have no problem paying 50 or 60 dollars to see a good concert, but I refuse to pay over about 7 dollars for a CD.
I am often accused of cheating also. When playing any video game online there will be some sort of cheating involved. When dealing with the Xbox, there are mod chips and action replay to deal with. And with PC games you have to worry about AimBots, Wallhacks, and all sorts of other things. The people making the hacks and the people making the anti-cheating software seem to go back and forth over who is ahead of who. Some games I have played with people who were cheating, and had them actually show me how they were cheating, etc.
Most of the time it is not too big of a problem though. And I think that if you are good enough you will get the credit you deserve from those who know what they are talking about.
The Xbox version will not include Online Multiplayer from what I have heard. I cna understand that because of the Xbox's limiting hardware. I was also worried about ID ever producing a quality title again, lol. Now Raven on the other hand created SOF series, which in my opinion, SOF2 is one of the top 3 online shooters of all time. Quake IV should be really cool.
I completely agree with this thread. I usually serve as a 24/7 tech support for anyone that I know who owns a computer. I think the most annoying thing is that my parents click on things they are not supposed to. Here are the rules I have outlines for my parents.
I will come and fix your computer when you have problems, if and only if....
You do not open any Email attatchments unless they are from me.
You do not download any free software unless it is cleared through me first via phone or email.
You do not click on anything suspicious! You computer already has all of the updates and software it needs, and it is not at the mercy of attackers (any more than the rest of the MS machines I guess.:P), and you don't need to know the weather all the time and have 50 million things in your task bar, etc. You will use default screensavers and wallpapers, and use only default windows color schemes, etc.
Should you think you need to upgrade you will do so with hardware approved by and installed by me.
Do not put any disks or programs in your computer that you got from "a buddy at work" or anything like that.
And last but not least.....pay attention to file names!!!!!!! Something called MS_Word_Document_doc.exe IS NOT A WORD DOCUMENT MOM!
I don't know what scares me more, thinking about all of the old people at the voting centers moving arround ballot boxes, and doig things by hand, or them trying to figure out the computer voting machines.
GTA 1 through III were all good games. I do not think that the actual game is as great as it is said to be, I think the violence and the open endedness of it, and the freedom to do what you want, makes it seem cooler than it really is. The missions get fairly repetative, get this, blow that up, kill him, follow that. And that's about it.
Don't get me wrong, I own all of the GTA games, and they are great games, all classics. And GTA was one of the first of it's kind.
The first and Third games ARE almost the same game. Try this, in GTA III you can switch to CLASSIC VIEW, which is the overhead top view exactly the view of the first one. Play it like that once, it is eerie.
Encyclopedia's are no longer needed. The web has everything anyone could ever want to know about, and then some.
I am 24, and I don't really remember using an encyclopedia for much in my lifetime. I know that MS Encarta was very popular for a while, and in the mid ot late 1990's I worked for Best Buy, and it came included with most Windows machines by companies like HP, Compaq, and Packard Bell. I have never bought a computer, only build my own, so I am not sure what type of software they are currently including with the retail sold systems.
The one thing I wanted to add to the discussion is this. The other things that I think will eventually fade out of existence due to web usage are:
1. Paper Phone Books. They are really no longer necessary, and I think most people do what I do, and when I get them left on my door step, I pick them up by the plastic bag and toss them right in my garbage bin. Phone directories change so often, and numbers rotate, and the web is a far superior resource, as I am sure most/. users will agree.
2. 411 - Directory assistance usage. I think this is becoming a thing of the past, due to the prescence of the above mentioned services. Things like www.dexonline.com, switchboard.com, and www.superpages.com are very nice ways to find things, and a lot of people can even access some type of phone directory service from their Wireless phone now.
Sometimes I feel like getting some of that old school paper with the little red and blue lines to keep your letters inside of and practicing. I wonder if typing so much is what plagues our generations handwritting skills, lol. I use a weird combo of cursive blurbs and upper case print.

Sorry for that being a bit off topic. I thought that since it was still regarding Televised gaming stuff it would be ok. My apologies.

Exactly. Pretty much everything after 95 has them hidden. And also it is hard to change file attributes in anything past 95.
Most of the time it is not too big of a problem though. And I think that if you are good enough you will get the credit you deserve from those who know what they are talking about.

You know what they say, if it sounds to good to be true it most often is. :)
The one exception in some old NES game I played for a long time but cannot remember the name of.
Anyone remember Skate or Die II?
I have not played BMX XXX but I figured it would play horribly.

What is all this talk of beating??? I thought the only way to get your money back was to roll over her with a tank.... lmao.
How's that working out for you?
What?
Being Clever.
Great.
Well, keep it up then. :)

True, and also turn on real damage and 200% speed so the war gets over faster. lol.
