All I see are several posts by yourself talking about the "communists" with the strong implication that "communists" are violent and hateful.
Just because someone disagrees with you, does not imply that their political orientation is the polar opposite of your own. Aside from that, there is nothing inherently violent about communism, even if they people you are talking about are communists.. and they're not.
I say the guy bought the wrong thing and is unhappy with his decision. Things like that happen all the time.
Not quite. He bought what he wanted (a computer) and was forced into purchasing this limited license copy of Windows along with it, with no option to purchase a standard license version. That is what the problem here is. The irony, of course, is that this "study" is trying to convince companies to remove the option of buying a bare or Linux machine and installing your own copy of Windows.
There's this handy setting in Windows called "Display DPI," and an equivalent setting in Xfree. Use the tools provided to you, and and you'll have lovely proper sized text.
The 3.06ghz P4 *was* the slowest P4 with hyperthreading for a while, but its not anymore. Prescott runs hotter than Northwood at the same clockspeed, so thats a pointless endeavour.
All you really need to do, though, is buy a motherboard that allows you to underclock - they do exist. Its easier on the AMD side of things where processors are often unlocked - all Athlon64s can have their multiplier dropped, and many of the XPs were completely unlocked. AMD has already come out with exactly what you're looking for, though, in the form of Cool and Quiet - underclocking while your machine is idle, just like a laptop. I'd be happy to see Intel follow suit.
I'm sure MS could care less *how* those licenses get sold. Actually, I imagine they'd rather sell them at higher retail prices. Either they make Windows feel faster, and sell licenses for the upgrade, or make it feel slower, and sell new OEM licenses. They get paid either way.
How is it different? A bigger integrated home theater setup just takes up a little more shelf space, big deal. A bigger cell phone means you carry around a bigger, heavier chunk of battery and plastic all day - and you can't choose to leave part of it at home, like you could if you had a seperate phone/pda/camera/whatever. Yeah, I'd much rather have a small cell phone that I can carry around all the time, and seperate PDA, camera, and music player that I can carry around only when I need them.
And if they do that, how is it HardOCP's fault? You can blame them for "tricking" the poor idiots into buying brand new hardware all you want, but the fact is, they made no real effort to do so. Instead, they emphasized again and again that current hardware WILL run the game acceptably. Place the blame where it belongs - squarely on the shoulders of those framerate freaks you're talking about.
Who's doing the villifying here?

It sounds like tinfoil territory, but human activity actually can trigger earthquakes. Apparently, messing with groundwater is a bad idea..
The NT kernel had a PPC (and MIPS, and Alpha) version in the past, I doubt the outcome will be any different now.
Have you ever tried to return software??

Yeah, MS just can't figure out a way to stuff more transistors in "their" processors.
MS could care less how fast your computer is.. as long as they can sell you a license for Office 20xx every year.
What on earth are you talking about. Halo for the Mac has been out for ages.
Opteron can handle up to 8-way without additional logic. I've seen the CPUs for sale (the 8xx series Opterons) but not any machines.
Better cut down all those trees and level all those mountians, after all, they're slowing down the wind too.

Its not really that suprising, salespeople cost money, and they don't have to pay them if you buy online.

The typingtest.com test had the option for characters/second, if you're actually interested.
Yeah, I had that problem as well. I kept adding/correcting words without thinking in the Huckleberry Finn test.
Other than suspend (ram or disk), which I've used maybe a total of 3 or 4 times in Windows, ACPI works fine on my laptop, an Averatec 3150p.

More likely ATHLONto601
Good thing MS sells lots of hardware...

Yeah, the "RadioShack" headphones I'm using right now even have Koss printed on the plug..
I'm such an idiot.. Ooops.
That depends on what IRC client he's using - irssi uses alt-# for changing between channel windows, so you'll have to use ctrl-alt-#.
Its not masked, but its not the default, either. If you do "emerge gnome-base" for example, it will still pick xfree by default.
You already can get an AMD version, with AGP to add your choice of video card.
