If you had read the F*** article you would have noticed the similar data from a Monday.
But no you wanted to mouth off rather than spend same amount of time actually finding stuff out.
Between 5 and 15 Million units of the One Laptop per child is supposed to ship in 2006 getting ready for 100-150Mu in 2007.
I think he should have mentioned the expected succes or failure of this program. If successful it will make Linux the #1 client OS, surpassing Windows and totally change the tech dynamics in 2/3 of the world. FYI 2005 shipments of Laptops was 42MU.
This is a silly objection and not even right. Anything to do with human beings follow a Gaussian distribution of sorts. We can argue about the deviation etc but for a large group the mean and the median is almost identical.
You are proposing a power or Zipf distribution that does not exist for human traits.
If you buy a blade server without OS specified It comes with something called "No Operating System Microsoft Configuration [Included in Price]" and is counted as Windwos servers
Now ask what "Other" is. Mainframe OS and AS400 is 10% tops the rest is servers bought without OS
Guess what is being installed on those?
.
MS invested in Gartner here a few years back, since that no Units is being published only Value.
By the wya the Linux partion went yp 37% in value and 22% unit (they poublished the growth not the absolute numbers) menaning the average price of Linux servers is rising 10%.
I think you are wrong. There was a list of the infected cds posted yesterday here at Slashdot.
Go over to Amazon and read the reviews of every single item. They are schockful of "Stay Away" notes. I can only remember Neil Diamond.

On a more serious note, Dell computer is the bane of innovation in the PC area.
They do not invest in R&D (>1%) and competes on price. This forces everyone else to pretty much follow (except Apple) as there is only so much delta price people is willing to pay for innovations.
With Dell being the low-cost producer mainly due to Intel's discount this effectively means that the Innovations is being priced out of the industry.
Innovations is left to the componets suppliers and they pretty much only knows how to make things faster and smaller.
This trend about using blogs to report the news, when blogs are nothing but plagarizing, content-recycling engines, is pretty hilarious.
I understand your point but normal journalists has been doing this since forever. In the old days they read each others papers and rewrote the stories.
A few years ago I read a Danish major news paper along with NYT / Herald Tribune. You could find unaccredited articles in the Danish paper that were almost a verbatim translation of something I had read a few days earlier..
Same thing with regional papers. Blogs are just a faster medium.
MAybe the first thing to establish is not to comapare something available now with something promised (and subject to change WinFS anyone) in the far future.
Seamonkey is counted as Mozilla 1.8. Try the beta by the way Faster and better than FF.

Poetic justice, maybe they should talk to Borland how this feels.
