I went to his homepage and would have enjoyed it more were it not for the giant penguin which obscured a large portion of the text and refused to go away.
On another note, anyone else read the shady letter he linked to in one of his answers?
Sorry about that, didn't mean to rant at you. All you did was bring some spare batteries. Was ranting at the so-called security procedures which provide anything but.
Don't bring more than 4 AA's on an airplane trip. I did that on a trip recently and one of the security personell mentioned that looked supsicious and recommended I carry no more than 4.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Do they not sell batteries in the gift shops past the security checkpoints? What if I bring those batteries by putting them in my gameboy, cd player, shaver and digital camera? Does that make it better? Seriously, what sort of Macgyver device can I build with 8 batteries that I cannot build with 4? These so-called security checks simply provide more inconvenience and a false sense of security to travellers.
No need for Disney to actually go to the trouble of creating "fake" crop circles. Just by planting the rumor that they might possibly do it has generated plenty of free publicity including this Slashdot article.
Just a recommendation on mysql books. In general I love O'Reilly books but stay far far away from the one on MySQL and mSQL. The information is not useful and poorly organized. If you want a good MySQL book, get MySQL by Paul DuBois published by New Riders.
I had the tetris for windows that came with the windows entertainment pack (win 3.1) and i played it so much that i got to the point where the score would reach the max 655xxx (something like that) and then it would start to go backwards, back to zero, and then go negative to -655xxx and then start going back up again. kinda cool.
The media aren't very friendly to the Bush administration.
actually, since Sept 11, pretty much everyone, including the media and even democrats have stood behind and supported the president. it's hard to find a dissenting voice these days for anything the president does. to do so would be political suicide in this current atmosphere where criticism of any sort is often interpreted as "unpatriotic".
It is laughable to think that he should hand them a news story. Our withdrawing from the ABM treaty wasn't much of a secret, we've said we'd do it for quite a while, it was only a question of when we would do so formally.
I never said it was a secret. Merely observing that the day the US pulled out of the ABM treaty was coincidentally also the day that the the bin laden tape was released, an event bound to generate tremendous media attention and tie up TV reports with their non-stop broadcasting and analysis of the contents of the tape. Make of it what you will. Of course, I also note that your homepage is collegegop.com
who will be the first to post "all your air are belong to us"?
The kids are going to love this. You walk up to the teacher's desk with a little practical joke in mind. Your mobile phone suddenly bleeps, and you hear a soft whisper in your ear: MAJOR bad mood todaydon't try anything. You think better of the prank and decide to avoid certain detention. All thanks to an invisible message placed in the air above the teacher's desk.
and over the head of your bald teacher, you could write "all you hair are belong to us"
slightly off-topic but an interesting observation about the ABM treaty. The US just pulled out of the ABM treaty to very little fanfare. Coincidentally, on the same day, the bin Laden video was released and all day long, cable tv channels played the bin laden video and for the most part ignored the potentially much more disastrous consequences of pulling out of the treaty.
Whatever you think about the treaty, you have to give the Bush administration credit for their ability to manipulate the media and divert attention away from the important issues.
If anyone has any friends in Australia, I recommend that you ask them if they want a copy of GTA3. If so, you should offer to buy it and mail it to them. With the surge of Christmas packages, I doubt Customs would search every package, especially if it were sent in an innocent-looking envelope.
You should buy them a new PS2 too while you're at it. Region coding for PS2 games means that they won't be able to play your US GTA3 on their Australian PS2.
Or does anyone else think AMD's new naming convention is nifty. I'm getting sick of everyone bragging about their ghzs.
i agree with you regarding mhz is not everything. but what a coincidence. when AMD broke through the 1ghz barrier, they couldn't wait to brag about it. now that they're getting left behind mhz-wise by Intel and having trouble reaching 2ghz, suddenly, "clock speed is not an accurate indication of performance". if apple and amd had 3ghz chips, you can be sure they would be hyping that up like crazy.
p.s. it's nothing new. AMD and others used to do that eons ago with their old chips which led to tremendous confusion amongst users.
Something interesting I noticed clicking on the link. I have set referer sending off in my browser but interestingly enough, FT.com tries to set a cookie with the following value:

Now that they have gotten "Jedi Knight" into the official UK govt census report, the next step is to get other amusing responses into the next census report. Since the report is simply "a list of possible answers that people have been known to put in the box marked religion", they will have no choice but to recognize that "CowboyNeal" is the answer to everything!
Sega always screws their customers over. their consoles are always hyped up and so full of promise but they always mess up on the delivery of a long stream of quality games. that's what hurts sega. they don't have enough 3rd party developers making great games for them. no square or ea sports. and even when they do, the development ends much earlier than for other consoles.
they're still making PS1 games (maybe even super nes games. at least i know that they still make gameboy games, a ten year (at least) platform) but saturn games dried out long ago and there will be no more new DC games long before there are no more new N64 or PS2 or even PS1 games. anyone remember the 32X? how many games were available for that?
i've had an SMS, genesis and saturn. each time, i got screwed by the lack of new games soon after purchase but i gave them the benefit of the doubt. not this time although i was about to be suckered in again. but this news of no more new hardware production will make developers stop developing new games even faster.
By its own admission this film is about a China that never existed in real life, inspired by Jackie Chan movies.
umm... this is a typical pre-jackie chan martial arts movie. the "wu-xia" genre is much much older than jackie chan. in fact, all martial arts movies used to be in this sort of ancient setting. what was different about the bruce lee and later jackie chan movies was they brought martial arts into the modern world, esp. jackie chan. he showed that even in a world with guns and other technology, he could still beat the opponent using skill and ingenuity and kung fu was no longer limited to people wearing traditional kung fu outfits.

metapad is my notepad replacement. Small, fast, keyboard shortcuts for save, search, etc, unlimited file sizes. Free as in beer. Excellent.

WINE is, in theory, capable of running any application written for Windows 98/Me
To quote Homer Simpson:
Sure, in theeoory. In theory communism works... In theory.
