I'm not against the concept, and I do understand that this is inevitable.
But doesn't this contest promote geek alienation. With all the pr0n around, we already lost the desire for real world women... What's gonna happen when fake women become even more popular?
I always think about what it would be like to live somewhere in the carribean working on cars or something.
Don't get me wrong, I love my techie job. But I tend to dislike the heavy hours that come with it. Everytime time we get a three day week-end I feel so much more relaxed. Just 1 more day makes a world of a difference. Everything seems to go at a slower rate, things are more enjoyable when you take your time.
Why am I busting my ass like that? For money or for myself?
By the way, I'm using Firebird 0.7 and I'm having bizarre memory usage in Win2k. Every time I hit refresh my memory usage gose up by about 400k. I'm at 50MB right now!
Here in Canada, internship salaries are partly financed by the government.
The job of scanning 1 image of every second of 3500 hours worth of footage seems like the perfect intership.
Starts out interesting... Quickly becomes boring... After a while you want to throw up each time you make a scan... Half way through you actually throw up every time you scan a second...
When you're done, all that is left is an insensible blow of twitching flesh!

So this means that... Say I'm compiling Half-Life... and I find out more RAM would be helpful... I just hotplug 256Mb in and voila! the compiler will go on and allocate the RAM I just plugged in?!?

I'm currently using FireFox 0.8 on my W2K SP4 machine at work...
The firefox process is currently taking 30.740KB..! All I do is browse!!! All I want to do is see web pages!!! 30MB! Fortunately I have 512Mb of RAM.
Until they fix their RAM consumption problems, I wouldn't recommend Firefox with any computer that is similar to my setup.

For my part, going out to rent the movie is part of the movie viewing experience. Interaction with the clerks makes it seem a little less solitaire.
Seems like a lot of these new technologies try to make money off services that already exist (and work perfectly).
Why should TV go digital? My existing TV works fine!
Why VoIP? The phone system works okay for me!
These so-called next-generation products are boring!
