Doesn't this void your privacy requirements you previously mentioned. I understand you want to grab short samples after the fact, but you'll still have access to all the continous data to begin with.
I mean if I'm playing "insert fav console game here", and want to record "insert show to be tivo'ed here" while my kids watch "insert lame kid program...dammit they need more Tom and Jerry...I digress", all within the comfort of my living room in split screen format on the big screen, you probably don't want converge unless it can do all of the above at the same time. With a separate console, "tivo" type box, and STB or dvd player, you can do all the above the same time. Will the PS3 or XBox 2 let you do all that?
Additionally, once the damn thing breaks, you're out all those devices. If the dvd player breaks, I buy a new dvd player, likewise for the console and various STBs.
either add more leading "1"s or more trailing "0"s that $2k/yr salary.
Alternaltively, you could have the all the laid off/out-sourced IT workers in the US form a bridge around the world by grabbing each other's ankles (I said each other's ankles, not their own--that's for corrupt CEOs)
If you are going to be running Win98 on the wild wild internet then that is as good as consenting to "elective" surgery before you even start.
As for the therapy, I think that would only apply with ECC ram so that the memory could repair/replace the bad bits. I guess physical therapy may apply since you are teaching the computer how to "walk" again, but in the end if you are fdisk/formatting/etc., you are really doing a brain transplant on the OS--any you might as well do one on the owner at that point as well.
In America, if a vehicle is over a certain weight (around 6000 lbs or so), it can qualify for tax deductions for a business up to at least $25,000. Bush proposed raising that deduction to around $100,000. I'm not sure if it ever passed or not (probably did or some form of it did), but as a small business owner, I actually thought about getting a vehicle that qualified, but my tree hugging wife convinced me to stay with the 4 cylinder Honda.

Getting back to CS, it's a very different job landscape then 8-10 years ago. They only "safe" CS job in America is one where you get a security clearance and work on government related projects that can't be farmed out due to security constraints.
DieBold employees and and Florida RNC delegate members.
Why they just can't have us all raise our hands when they call out a candidate's name and count the raised hands from space is beyond me. Why make it so hard???
For power users total convergence is probably never going to happen. You're not a./er unless you have at least 4 networked machines with at least 3 different OSes:)
But for the average user, the cell phone could become their primary "communications" computer. You wouldn't write any major documents on that (that's what the "big iron" in your office is for), but it could provide other services that we have traditionally done on PCs that are "good enough". Email, IM, calendars, address books, media apps and voice. Sure you can do voice over your PC now, but the "average" PC user isn't up to speed on VOIP yet and it's not mobile. You make a "phone" that does all the above just "good enough" and people will flock to it. Even/.ers will get on board...as long as it can bluetooth and/or wifi connect to their servers and of course...as long as it runs Linux;)
Well that [vmware] would allow them to considate workstations, but I've never met an engineer who was willing to give up a machine once he had it (the OS maybe, but the machine, no), unless it was a nice hardware upgrade. Addtionally, many of the bigger companies lease their PCs and few leasers allow you to break your lease without major $$$ anyway.
Plus I don't think vmware licenses are any cheaper than an MS Office suite.

When did AOL start sending its software out on CRTs?
That would explain those CS dominating Swedes.

no more changing the channels on my neighbors tv/satellite set on warm summer days. Back to OTA tv viewing for me.

It's now "new fashioned"...[global] capitalist competition is only in effect when it benefits the corporation(s) (i.e. $$$), not the people.
