It couild be worse. Try living on the Isle of Man where apparently there are no towns and so no need for roads. Maybe it has become a nuclear test site or something.
I fully agree, if MS was thrown out of the EU well there's a $25 billion market to be filled, I would happily jump in with Linux solutions as would every other IT company. What's the problem?
MS out, port to Linux, I would bet even games and video cards would very quickly be linux supported.
Hey don't worry one of our admins where I work wouldn't let me boot knoppix on his PC to run "while true do..." to hit his CPU (over heating problems) to stress his cpu and test the new cooler as he was scared it would break it.
Another idea, SAN boot and keep your files on your SAN box, I have been trying to clear some space for a Hitachi Lightning 9900 to connect my PC to for a little while now. It's much quicker.
If I have time I much prefer, why certainly lets talk some more. And not buy the overpriced piece of junk that they are selling, now if only I could convince the rest of the world to do the same...
In the UK it's actually illegal to sell an item which could be used to breach copywrite, sony have used this to stop mod chips in the UK.
Next the printing press and the pencil will be banned as these could clearly brech copywrite.
Solaris has been strong in the server market as it has controlled hardware to run on, I am interested to see how exactly Sun gets around the numerous graphics cards etc out there by just releasing Solaris 10 for intel/amd!
I don't see how downloading music from allofml3.com would be illegal in the UK, the site states that they have a licence to distribute music and so I can legally download from here. Just like iTunes.
UK law is like German law, it's legal unless the site in known to be distributing illegally. I read the claims that they distributed legally and belived them (just like iTunes), the only thing that is different is the country the download is comming from!
I would guess that at the very worst I could be asked to remove the downloaded files from my possesion.
The wheel! It's way cooler and more usefull than all of that stuff listed, and don't say I can't have it. If the abacus, a compass, pez dispender and a stapler are there then why the hell not?
Good point, must be about time that the US expanded the baseball to become the Universe Series, doesn't matter if the rest don't play it'll be just like the World Series now;)
Anyone considered that the move is to reduce costs? In the UK anywhere near London carries a huge cost to employees in housing etc, where as the north of England is much cheaper. With these kind of underlying cost cuts google could be looking to cut the staffing budget.
So your reasonable is the same as everyone elses? I have seen what McDonalds deem a reasonable quantity, I don't call a small vat of coke a good quantity. Ever watch Supersize Me?
That's amazing I was a geologist but having worked in the middle of the North Sea I got sick of geology and am now a happy sys-admin type!
Mind you I would much rather be in the middle of nowhere looking at some interesting rock/fossil etc.
Surely the solution is for all the rural dwellers to just charge more for their produce (food and the like) and then pay for the services they want with the extra $$$.
Mind you I guess you could argue that you would just import the mined stuff from India. It's not like they have a shortage of limestone for roads and the like. Food get that from India too if the prices in these rural areas goes up too much (to support there broadband demands), very nice food too!
I'm with you on this one, people don't care. Having said that I don't care about the internal workings of my Car, I don't really want to learn either.
I can list a huge ammount of stuff I don't care about and am happy to "outsource" to third parties. Gone are the days when I would have had to get fuel from for my fire and hunt my food, I use gas and electricity and buy food, I really couldn't care less about how the gas gets to my house nor how my gas boiler regulates the water temerature and pumps it around the house, OK I do know but I don't really want to learn anymore about it.
Unethical? Why? If you read the site the music is licenced for distribution, to me this would suggest the artist does get paid.
I feel that it is more unethical that the elite few in the music industry get millions, how about the artist gets paid a little less? No much impact I guess, how about less advertising then? It's then upto a good song to stand out on it's own merrits not the hype.

But what is on the Isle of Man?
Hey we are not citizens, we are subjects (of Her Majesty) in good ol' Blighty.

I live 6 miles from St. Helens and the first time I read anything was on Slashdot. Mind you I am on about St. Helens in the UK.
Interestingly I got one of the mails yesterday and went looking, the SSL cert on the site I got to looked like this...
Common Name: ibank.barclays.co.uk
Organization: Barclays Bank Plc
OU: Enable
And was issued by Verisign, expires on 03/08/2005 (UK format).
Which all looks OK, but as I have never had a bank account at Barclays I went there and let them have some crap data.
Could have been worse, one of my ex-bossed was a big fan of coke and not the drink!

Another pointless article!

Groan, also being in the UK I expected that the second series was already in production. Ah well, a longer wait than I had expected.

"soft drinks don't have any significant negative effects" WHat ever happened to type 2 diabetes? Too much sugar now does you no favor later in life.

This election thingy seems to be making me suffer a slow news day.
