    Who ever gets into office will be told what to do about net neutrality by some unelected person behind the scenes

    This is true for McCain, but Obama seems to have a better grasp of technology. Anyway, his daughters are coming to an age over the next 8 years where they will have significant input into internet issues. McCain's daughter is a major in art history at Columbia, she might have some insight.

    There was a piece on NPR this morning on the guy, Douglas Prasher, who actually discovered the gene that makes this protein. (The winners came up with a way to use his gene) His funding was cut and he's now driving a courtesy car for a car dealership in Alabama.

    It sounds silly, but this is one of the great success stories of pure research. GFP has proved to be an absolutely astounding tool for biologists, one that we'd never have if there weren't people curious enough to ask "why does that jellyfish glow?" and people willing to fund them.

    There was a study that gave girls and boys construction related toys and watched them play. What they found was that boys would pick up and try new tools much more often than girls. When shown how to use a new tool, boys and girls where equally adept at using them.

    Many times ex government employees wind up as contractors doing exactly the same job they were doing as a government employee. That sort of person is *very* unlikely to do something nasty in their last days.

    There have to be at least 100 Universities and Quasi-governmental data centers that could be coaxed into giving this information. Most universities take many federal grants, and companies like Freddie Mac, and Sallie Mae are heavily regulated.

    They significantly interfere with off-air television. I work for the cable company, and we had to build a giant antenna in another site because our first giant antenna was to close to the windmills. Local houses have trouble getting off-air signals, digital HD included. Has the FCC looked into this? Perhaps non-metalic blades would prevent interference. The generators attached to the turbines should be shielded enough to prevent interference.

    In fact, most farmers LOVE wind turbines... My great grandfather was a wind turbine salesman. Before about 1950 *every* farm had at least one windmill. It was used to pump water for everything on the farm.

    Purdue University Computing Center used to have a bunch of NeXTs with optical drives. You might be able to find someone there that could do the conversion for you for a small fee.

    I don't know of a better way to legally watch movies cheaply. We get DVD's from the local public library for free. You can check out up to 5 at a time, for up to 2 weeks and 1 renewal. Even if we go overdue, the late fees are a few dimes per day.

    Our library system has more kids movies than NetFlix (if you count VHS and DVDs) Between that and over the air broadcast using a lifetime subscription Tivo, we get as much video content as we can consume, for free.

    So, if you are virtually drunk in the game, do your reactions get slower, do you crash more, and when you try to shoot the cops, do you miss?

    If so, MADD should applaud this game, as it shows why you shouldn't be drunk. On the other hand, if when you get drunk there are no consequences, then they can complain.

    So as soon as a law enforcement type plugs this into the Bad Guy's computer, a virus is installed on the thumb drive and gets installed on every other machine that the drive is plugged into. (Like Mr. Law Enforcement's own desktop!!!)

    Imagine the TSA was using these. Every businessman's computer would be owned. If the virus also disabled the detection systems, our Bad Guy could also attack other bad guy's systems. He'd rule the world... Bwa Ha Ha Ha....
