  1. Re:Ethnically segregated? on French Riots Lead to Crackdown on Blogs · · Score: 1

FNC runs racilly-driven stories all of the time. Recently, they were the major pushers (though not the only) of the stories of "widespread rapes and looting" in the aftermath of Katrina, the stories of blacks shooting at aid helicopters, and so on... all stories which turned out to have no basis in fact whatsoever (don't expect an apology or retraction from them, though). Just because they don't say "black people look like monkeys" in those terms doesn't mean that they don't make it very clear that they consider minorities to be sub-human savages.

One of the reasons that America is so racially diverse today is because those Christians brought those black people over as slaves, forbade them from learning how to read or practicing their own culture, forbade them from speaking their own language, forbade them from observing their own religion and forced them to be Christian, controlled their lives with imprisonment and forced labor, and killed the ones who disobeyed. Black people aren't slaves, but they are still in economic thrall to the white people. Blacks are tolerated as long as they stay on their side of the fence and believe in Jesus Christ.

If you call that "success," well, that speaks volumes more bad things about you than it does about what you call "secular humanism."

By the way, multi-culturalism doesn't have to do with the accepting of the color of one's skin. The color of your skin is not your culture. Your language, spirituality, and social customs are your culuture. The collective values of your society are your culture. This comment makes it absolutely clear how AGAINST multi-culturalism you are, since only Christians are welcome in your world.

Please get off your high horse. A book puts stuff together in a way that someone with no prior experience to a subject (who doesn't really know what to "google" for, and would like a comprehensive guide to a subject instead of trolling for a dozen links.

What I hate about comments like these is that they're almost always bragging in a thinly-veiled way... "*I* figured it out on my own, why can't time-strapped IT professionals do the same?" The answer is the time it would take to compile such a comprehensive resource is worth MORE to some people than the price of the book. Books also tend to have a more comprehensive goal in mind (ie, you build on what you learned in the last chapter), whereas most websites and HOWTOs are atrocious resources except for the individual task the websites is dedicated to. Also, books tend to be written by professionals, editied by professional editors, as opposed to random people spewing on the net. My experience is that googled examples tend to be much less insightful, more likely to be contradictory, tutorials thrown together, etc.. In the OSS world especially, so populated by hackers, documentation that makes sense to non-hackers is very low on the list of priorities.

If you learned this stuff with nothing but google and loads of spare time, congratulations, give yourself a gold star.

I understand why they have this policy, but it really doesn't seem like a big deal to me. If Commander CmdrTaco doesn't look stupid to you, then I don't see the problem. This sort of misunderstands the point of satire. A news article with a picture of the president attached is typically either about the president or the president's statements. The Onion's articles are about the president, but they are fictional... The exact same arguments you would use for the appropriateness of using the president's likeness (or ANYONE'S likeness really, the president isn't supposed to be THAT special) could be used for using the seal... people might think an article about George Bush with an image of George Bush is actually about George Bush.

I also find it amusing for a White House that has spent so much time, energy and political capital badmouthing lawyers that they have initiated so much frivilous lawyering themselves. If the Bush White House doesn't want to be made fun of, my personal suggestion is that they stop being such a laughable administration.. But, I won't hold my breath. Why do that when you can sue your critics into oblivion? If that doesn't work.. I hear outing spouses' classified status to the news media for retaliation can work wonders, too.

I can debate the validity in a lot of these things but the one I've never been able to understand is the soul shard issue. It blows me away that someone could take the time and effort to get a warlock to 60 and still not know how to manage soul shards. Maybe exposure to after-60 raid group content will change my tune, but I doubt it.

I have a warlock (level 56, and yes I PVP with him) and a hunter (level 30something) and I can say without hesitation that the maintainence of keeping my hunter full of meat and arrows has been far more annoying than keeping my warlock full of soul shards. Usually sharding is so ingrained in my habits that I've got way more shards than I need. I couldn't tell you how many shards I've thrown away/made healthstones out of and given away like candy even though I keep one full bag dedicated to them as a cushion.

I also think, with the exception of getting jumped by a rogue, that warlocks are extremely formidable in pretty much every PVP scenario. Not that I haven't given a few rogues with more levels than me nasty surprises when their backstab is rewarded with a seduce/heal/nuke into oblivion. On top of that, i find warlocks to be very versatile with many nasty little tricks under their sleeves.
