"Genre defining" I think means the game that best represents what the genre is about. So not necessarily what made a genre take off or started a genre but more like the first game that comes to mind when someone mentions a genre.
OK, put down the xbox controller and try and think for a minute about why it would be damaging to take a complex, maybe nuanced issue and debate it from two extreme, skewed viewpoints. who stands to gain or lose from such style arguments? (I am not here to peddle conspiracy therioes on you so I will let you decide that for yourself).
The daily show isn't offensive it's irrevrant. There's a difference. and it's in this irrevrance that jon gained his following -- by exposing the ridiculous and disengenious crossfire style arguments.
I always wondered why people have to talk about it like it's a contest and that there is one perfect medium for learning. I think you hit the nail on the head in that books are better for some things and games maybe now are being seen as better for others. Seems pretty straight forward to me that a well-rounded education uses multiple techniques.
That would make sense since cost of living is around there (3% I think) but with a study like this there would be many other factors, especially across an entire industry. Some of these might be like the value of the dollar, outsourcing and the turnover rate for the positions. wish i could read the fine article though - they might even explain it in there:)
The funny thing is it's the proportion that is important in attractiveness and these character designers seem to have got the proportion VERY, VERY wrong. This is why to me, these busty game babes look more like plastic Hollowood nastiness.
There is a certain ratio that men find attractive universally. There was a whole show about it on TechTV like a year ago called Body Hits. Very interesting stuff. They conducted a research study and found this out. Some of the other things they found that are universally accepted beauty (arcoss cultures I mean) are health and youth.
So as a male who is a fan of the female anatomy I'll have to say I couldn't agree more with you:)
Dont usually reply to myself but I forgot since we're talking revenue and not profit then counting hardware WOULD inflate the numbers - even more so since they are loss learders...
yeah but if you were desing a print ad with the "Coke red" wouldn't you want to be sure that the process color you chose for other areas of the ad matches the spot Pantone coke red? You may be right though, I am not a print designer but I have done a few nationally published magazine ads but I just used 100% process and it looked fine to the standard the company wanted but they were easy going about it and I assumed most are not as forgiving. Of course even to my eyes the color looked OK.
My Dell 18.1" has been good enough for my gaming and work (animation and web design) for almost 2 years now. I don't see ghosting and I see very vivid color - to me it much better than any expensive CRT I have ever seen (although I may not have seen the real cream of the crop). And for me there isn't a chance in hell I would ever switch back.
Frankly, It surprises me that people still tote the CRT line as much as they do. I could see how a print designer who need very exactly color replication (say to get the coke branded red) or a video effects/compositor might need such color accuracy but I dont think CRTs are really needed for 90% of the people they used to be including gamers and graphics pros. In other words, the "I need such good color/response time that I need a CRT" crowd should be tiny niche of what it used to be.
Is it really? From the videos it looks to me like it sort of "poops" out without much velocity. Although it is admitedly hard to tell for sure from these videos. And don't get me wrong, it's not exactly a good bug but I am just wondering if "throwing stars" is a little sensationalistic. But Slashdot editors are NEVER sensationalistic:) I don't know WHAT I could be thinking....
I feel your pain. Would be nice to hear some about pro video game players though - 'course there would then be countless posts about quake v unreal and starcraft v warcraft v that farming sim game
They have this in some european countries AFAIK. Some also have rules that state in order for an election to be considered valid at least 50% of the population needs to have turned out to vote. I am not sure what the effect of these laws has been as I admitedly know less than I would like to about how it works. Although, your comment has sparked my interest to see what I can find out. I think there may have been laws like this in some of the former Yugoslavian countries. But the sucess there should obviously be qualified against some of the other problems they are having in creating stable societies there.
Another thing that might be nice to see on Linux would be an all in one set up like propellerheads reason. Some people really like this kind of all in one synth, drum machince, sequencer, effects processor set up - personally hate trying to go back to things like cubase after using it although I certainly see how those apps are perfect for some people. http://www.propellerheads.se/ There are things out there like buzz machine and reactor but the interface to reason is nice and easy:)
that is definitely funny but telling too i think. isn't this the sort of thing that a child does when they know they are wrong? Giving two excuses for what they did, either of which is perfectly credible on its own but the mere fact that they needed TWO reasons makes you suspicious. So is it criminal or is it terrorism?
Then again this could be just an idiot who worded the response badly...
Aw c'mon.... Did you totally miss the parent poster's point? This isn't some lame attempt at CBS regaining credibility it's a fluff editorial by some dude. It should be given about as much credence as a editorial about how blogs ARE going to take over the world. Both ideas are rediculous sensationalism. Your right they screwed up royaly with the Bush National Guard Docs but THEY have shown remorse or at least appologized or do you think that was a disingenuous appology by Dan Rather who probably didn't hope to cap off his career this way? Let's not forget who broke Abu Ghirab shall we? Surely they are not perfect (far from it IMO) and their ego did them in with the National Guard docs but let's not condem the whole enchilada based upon the one transgression and for sure let's not do it over and over and over again...
so it kinda seems to me that your post is a straw man argument. if you say it like this it sure sounds like one: "Since CBS ran an OP/ED that derides an other form of media they must be trying to regain credibility through making others look bad"
Nevertheless I think most people are missing the point
I think this guy is just old and bitter and is tired of people like wonkette disrespecting his entire profession so now that they got the exit polls so wrong he is doing a big (Neslon voice) "HA HA" which is pretty lame too if you ask me.
is that not a minidisc player? I guess that does fit the bill to some extent but I was thinking about something larger like the ipod has but more in a design like this (look to the right of the screen)
You bring up a good point but I personally hardly ever orgranize my songs (about 11 gigs) and like to browse by name. Sometimes I don't like hierarchies because they need so many categories and so much organizing work. So to me the scroll wheel is a great function but I agree their should be multiple ways of getting to a song both hierarchical and list-style. So different people can use the way that makese sense to them.
the one thing it seems they all still lack is a decent scroll wheel. Do they really think apple owns the patent on this? Scroll wheels have been on keyboard synthesizers for over a decade (certainly long before people had even heard of anything called mp3) The only thing apple did was to make it "laptop stlye" touch scroll. I am suprised no one has tried to use the more "moveing part mechanical style wheel" But maybe that is what I am missing? would it break too easily? Since when has that stopped electronics manufacturers?:)
I second that. I appriciate a good toilet joke but those people were really being abused (financially). If you've ever been in contact with one of them they are incredibly nice and it very uncomfotable to think they were being treated so badly. Kudos to Spitzer for taking on the big cases as well as the small. Spitzer may have political aspirations but he seems to be fighting the good fight in the meantime.

Well if you would take Pizza Eating 101 you would learn that I can eat many, MANY pizzas.

Just wait 'till you get to Kanji :)

Body Hits was also a great show
Oh, wait...

Maybe you mean controllers and memory cards but um... How big of a slice in the number can that really be?

Dayum. As I clicked the link all I could think was, "No...no one would EVER actually carve... Oh God they did."

I think the article submitter must have meant a crazy slow Full Figured Woman.
