I was in Thailand (Pattaya Beach, nice town, plenty of Adult Entertainment) before XP was resleased and got the Beta version of Windows XP for about 600 Baht, about $5 US at the time.
It's obvious that Microsoft is attempting to curb piracy in third-world countries. Sorry, it's not going to work. Once they've cracked the copy protection, XP Starter Edition will be should next XP Pro, Visual Studio.Net and Office 2003, all priced at 1,200 Baht (but, you can get them down to 600).
They even sell copies of Linux. Strangely, most PC I've seen in Thailand run pirated version of Windows. Even the people who sell copies of Linux next to Windows were surprised to learn that it was completely free.
More Linux advocacy in needed in such countries were the majority of the computer using population relay on pirated copies of Windows.
While a certification may get you a job it will be your hard work and knowledge that lets you keep it an gain the experience.
True, many people with certifications don't know what the should. That's when you show up with the same cert, do a good job and make them look bad. Your employer (or consulting firm, in my case) will that much more impressed with you.
Who do you think they'll call for the next contact.
*Note* Would those who have gotten certs only for the money please change careers. You're degrading the value of certifications. Thanks.

No successful company does anything the doesn't either directly or indirectly generate revenue.
AOL doesn't make money by selling AIM but by giving it away free it does 2 things.
1.Enhances the AOL brand. AOL stays well known and attracts customers. Customers=Money.
2. AIM provides an added functionality to AOL. AOL users who like AIM (because all their AOL friends and some non-AOL friends use AIM). AOL keeps customers. Customers=Money.
My point? Companies don't have to charge money for a product to profit from it.
In October of 2000 I was a Navy Hospital Corpsmen assigned to a Marine unit. (Just for those who don't know, the Marines fall under the Department of the Navy and get medical support from the Navy)
During one of the training exercises taking place at a base on the island of Hawaii, one of the Marines ( a Corporal) who was working in the chow hall drank 32 oz. of coffee concentrate (equal to about 50 cups) on a $30 bet from his Staff Sergeant.
He came into the Aid Station complaining of chest pains and vomiting blood. He kept on saying, "I can't stop shaking, Doc."
Needless to say this was considered an emergency and we called the Medical Officer. We had to keep an eye him in case his heart developed an arrhythmia due fact the enough of any stimulant, including coffee, could do that. The Marine was put under observation for the night and one of the Corpsmen went to inform the Staff Sergeant that if the Corporal died he'd be held responsible.
This Marine lived and was passed over for a promation because of this incident but, I never seen him drink coffee since.
Yes, it is possible that coffee could kill a person. Depending on the person's weight and the period of time that it took to drink the coffee. It might be funny now but at the time it was dead serious.
Sound like you're a Marine who had his shot record shredded after pissing of the Corpsman.
That's good because I'm one of Uncle Sam's children.
Thanks, you are absolutely no help.
I'm not CIA but, a Navy Reservist.
Thanks for the input.
500 Channels and there's nothing on!

Or, just buy a regular car.

Go ahead, answer it. I dare you!

Suggestion: Set-up your computer to Dual-Boot Linux with Window.
Step 1: Install Windows with extra unpartitioned drive space (about 3-5 GB should do, depending on your system). Step 2: Install Linux.
I'd suggest either Mandrake 10.0 or Xandros Desktop OS Open Circulation Edition.
Mandrake is very user friendly and Xandros is aimed at Windows users.
Step 3: Configure LILO for Dual Boot. (Easier than it sounds)
Alternately you can download Knoppix 3.4 and boot directly from the CD.
Let the Jihad begin!
If you're like me, you'd die without a computer anyways.
I don't have any friends you insensitive clod!
...is that many countries no longer have public canings.
Like they do in Singapore
Security exploits, Mac Spyware and hacks like these, IMHO, will contune to increase as OS X becomes more popular.
But, this has already been predicted.
I've notice that a lot of hubs running Direct Connect auto-kick DC++ users.
Don't know if this is due to the hub Admin or the program itself.
Still, Direct Connect/DC++ kicks ass.
Apple's involment in the open source
But...the Apple Public Source License (APSL) isn't Open Source like the GPL.
The 2 big prolbems I see with the APSL is that:
1. Changes must be reported back to Apple.
2. That Apple may revoke the APSL at any time. Meaning that even if the community contributes to a project Apple can take it away at any time.
Until changes are made, Apple is just pretending to support Open Source.
apple also seems to put more effort into their os development
You mean like scrapping their old OS and slapping an Apple interface on a BSD.
Sorry, but it sounds to me like Jobs realized that continuing development of OS9 would me more effort than it was worth.
...Make a comment about "Welcoming our new Security Blimp Overlords"?
Or, has that finally died out?

that the new 5,000 mph, Scram Jet aircraft will revolutionize the future of air travel.
Just like the Concord does today.
they are not able to innovate anything
You are correct but, Microsoft's strength hasn't come from innovation rather they taking what someone else has created and make it there's.
Makes good business sence. No need to create something new that might not catch on, when can just hop on the bandwagon and own it.
....He got busted when he call the company to get the device back!
Not the smartest thing to do. He deservse whatever he gets.
