Which is the small company? Is it Universal or News Corp (owners of Myspace)? I can never remember which of the global media conglomerates is the small guy.
What new media standard is MS trying to force on gamers? HD-DVD? How is offering an add on, that has no gaming capability, the same as forcing? The 360 media standard is DVD9. And MS isn't forcing the HD-DVD standard on gamers since it's for movies only.
I think that's a great idea. Put all the Survivor people on the iceberg, set it adrift, and then wait for it and everyone on it to disappear in the ocean never to be seen nor heard from again.
I don't think it's that big of a deal. Wolverine is only 5'3" in the comics, but Hugh Jackman is 6'3". It would have been intersting to see Glenn Danzig as Wolverine, though.
You got me. I haven't followed this issue much since there is no HDMI cable available. I was thinking of the Anandtech article which stated the output seems to be analog right now. MS has been rather vague on the whole issue. They did say they would produce an HDMI cable if the market wants it, but they didn't say it would provide digital. So, no one knows for sure whether the 360 can do digital or not. We'll just have to wait and see if Lik-Sang's "official" MS HDMI cable actually appears or not.
Probably the same reason that the Xbox 360 can't upgrade to HDMI. The output is 100% analog at the connector on the Xbox. Just adding a HDMI adapter won't do anygood. The Xbox.com forum is full of people requesting HDMI (especially after the HD-DVD announcement), but MS has said it can't be done do to the reason above. Seems like they've hurt themselves by doing so, but they were the first. If Sony does the same thing we may find out "who is more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?"
I'm sure the MPAA can figure something out. You know what they say about an infinite amount of monkeys? Well, the MPAA has infinite plus one monkeys in their legal department.

I agree. What's the possiblity these cards can even puch enough data to fill a AGP 4X pipe? I guess they made them PCI Express to make them seem faster.

"HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc players will allow content providers to set a flag that will only output full-resolution signals using HDCP. If such a player is connected to a non-HDCP-enabled television set and the content is flagged, the player will output a downsampled 540p signal."
Since HDCP does not work over an analog connection that means studios can flag their content to not run in full HD quality. It will still work just not in HD.
The problem with the TV out is that the "core" PS3 has no HDMI out. If you want Hi-Def from your Blu-Ray DVDs then you need HDMI for the HDCP. Using the analog out will not get you HD just regular DVD quality. MS has the same problem with their HD-DVD add on. What's the point of a HD DVD player (either type) if you can't get HD quality? I'll take a guess right now that either Sony and MS will have a workaround for their consoles or that the studios won't use the flag since HDCP capable TVs are not a majority in homes right now.
The problem with your analogy is that Microsoft is on a little more stable financial footing than Sega was. I'm not agreeing with the OP, but this Xbox 360 = Dreamcast is just silly since MS != Sega.
Damn it! The Cell Processor is NOT revolutionary.
So the guys at IBM have a PPC CPU core and some side processing units to help on floating point operations. Big deal.
Good thing the PS3 doesn't use Cell.
The PS3 uses the <Booming Voice> "Cell Broadband Engine." </Booming Voice>
Now that's revolutionary.
Just like the Nvidia <Booming Voice> "Reality Synthesizer." </Booming Voice>
Don't you get it? It synthesizes real reality and puts it on your TV screen where it belongs.
How powerful is it? Let me put it this way:
Eye Toy + Cell Broadband Engine + Reality Synthesizer = Tron.
This thing is so powerful I keep a frisbee near me everytime I play just in case it remotely activates my PC webcam <LOL>.
It's more revolutionary even than the "Emotion Engine" of the PS2. Of course, the QC on the PS2 was a little shoddy. My PS2 was manic depressive.

Well, it was modded "redundant." Obviously everyone was thinking it.

Dude, awesome link. I've been looking for a massively overpriced water blender forever.

back when the internet was considered a truck. Taking UPS and FedEx out of the equation really hurt.
I don't know. A poke in the eye with a sharp stick is pretty good. Ooh, sliced bread!
Obviously they man under the table is none other than Dustin "Rain Man" Hoffman.
Good point, but the horse armor add on isn't nearly as necessary as cars or tracks in a racing game.

The AV contacts better be plated in Latinum.

Because your average consumer doesn't know any better nor care?
Swi
That was the first thing they checked. It's working fine. I think they resereved a whole SPE for it.
Swi
They probably do, I mean, anyone smart enough to understand how to read a U.S. address obviously knows how to use a firebomb.
Right?
Oh, well. I'm sure granny deserved a little luvin' too.

No, it's not. It's the guy from Dodgeball, Justin Long. The PC guy is a correspondent on the Daily Show, John Hodgman.

The content providers can demand HDCP.
"HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc players will allow content providers to set a flag that will only output full-resolution signals using HDCP. If such a player is connected to a non-HDCP-enabled television set and the content is flagged, the player will output a downsampled 540p signal."
