Far be it for me to agree with Windows... but I've run a bunch of Linux servers for years and the last six months I have spent more time fending off script kiddies, phpBB hackers and assorted other kinds of PHP, Linux and perl based hackes than I have serving my customers. Not that Windows doesn't suffer from the same problem - but the concept of linux being fundamentally more secure is a bit of a myth. You still need to take active countermeasures to ensure that your desktop or server isn't vulnerable.... a lesson I've learned the hardway on more than one occasion the last 6 months.
I think that Bungie's stat system is extremely cool. Not only does it allow you to review games in all of their gory detail, but also provide valuable insight into strategies of teammates and opponents. By looking over the game stats for clans that you play you can look for patterns and see what kind of strategies they are employing so that you are better prepared to play them the next time around. Like everything else, Halo 2 team games (especially in the non-ffa game types such as capture the flag and territories) and having this kind of detail really helps.
I've been part of the team working on Bungie's older Myth series and those games would create files that would contain all of the game data so you could actually watch a replay of the entire game from any team perspective so that you could learn strategies and replay really cool in-game events.
So I would say yeah, it's an important part of the game. It doesn't really make winning any more or less important (I play for fun... which is good because I suck) but it gives even non-rank-whore types like myself some really cool information for seeing how I can play better against certain teams in the future. Think of it like Football. There are an insane amount of statistics for the game of football, and even entire fantasy leagues which revolve around statistics. I think it's more just catering to the human nature element in people than anything else.
I picked up the game for Xbox yesterday (yes, I'm a heretic I know) and I am really pleased with it. I played through some of the solo campaign to get a feel for the controls before embarrasing myself on Xbox Live. But running around killing Jar Jar Binx is a RIOT... thats my new favorite shooting gallery. I can imagine how fun this will be co-oping with a bunch of my friends who will have this game by week's end.
After hearing about all the problems with other Star Wars games, I have to say that everything from the Vehicles to the weapons seem very impressive so far. I've not had a chance to drive many of the vehicles, but I'm really looking forward to it!:-D
Didn't the left use the same "Rush is fat" comments against Rush Limbaugh? Interesting how these same people that complain about it are the ones who likely used it the most when it was "vogue"
Like what? The New York Times? C... BS? No thanks. Drudge more times than not is nothing more than a page of links that lead you directly to these news items. The things that he breaks himself are usually things that the "source that you consider reputable" won't cover.
As with anything, be critical of what you read, but Drudge has proven himself right more times than the elite media cares to admit.
Did they fix the problem with the Kernel that keeps it from recognizing the CD Rom drives in certain newer Dell servers? I had to dump my use of Mandrake because this bug. I was able to use Fedora's install just fine so I've since switched to it:-\
Why do we need a stinking law for everything in this country (America) or the world for that matter. If they guy didn't want to agree to the license, then he did the right thing in sending it back to Dell. You don't need a damn law to dictate right from wrong. And the purpose of laws isn't to protect stupid or lazy people from themselves by dictating the terms of the agreement. This just takes the responsibility away from the purchasor and puts it in the hand of the justice department. Tell *ME* who you trust more to know what is best for you?
I'm sorry... I'm just tired of people asking for more and more and more laws and then when someone enforces the laws on the books (such as existing copyright or technology protection laws) everyone is up in arms. It's a nasty double standard.
One of the lesser known games, Armed and Dangerous has some fantasic voice acting. The cut-scenes in the game are some of the most well done in terms of the actual acting and in terms of their humorous content.
Unless I'm completely missing the point of his post (which is possible because it IS early sunday morning).
if I turn on my iPod and from the main screen select "extras" there is a "contacts" and "calendars" option there.
Selecting contacts brings up a list of everyone in my contact list on dotMac. Selecting a person shows me (on the LCD) their name, address, phone, email.
Same with calendars.
Now you can't edit this data - nor can you input new data because that would require a better input interface, but you can view the data. So it's not 100% PDA functionality, but it's been handy in many situations when I needed a phone number or an address. You can even put in directions and such in the "notes" section.
Um.... It can.
I keep all of my OS X address book contacts and my iCal information in my iPod and use this frequently when on the road.
I use my iMac account to synchronize all the data from my work mac, my home mac, laptop and iPod so all of my contacts, bookmarks and calendar events go with me wherever I am. It's VERY cool!
Actually - MythDevelopers community work on Myth III version 1.1 was codenamed Lazarus.
It's a pretty common thing... kinda like Phoenix or other cryptic references to rebirth.
Nobody is forcing anyone to upgrade. I use Panther on my G4, but my wife is still using Jag on her G3 iMac. And the best part is Apple is still supporting Jag. The security update issues yesterday for Panther was also issued for Jag. All in all, there really isn't anything to complain about.
I agree with what another user said, as long as the improvements keep coming, we Mac users are hip to paying for bigger, badder, faster, now - kind of software.
I've always maintained a movie based on the story of the first two games in the Myth series would make GREAT movies. Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth II: Soulblighter.
Heck, some fans of the game even did a fan-fiction movie of it using iMovie.... with no budget mind you.
Avon's Hope: A Myth Movie
I bet what they're going to try and say is that the state is infringing upon their freedom of speech... which is a complete crock because there are many avenues under which they could get their message out without essentially hijacking a person's internet experience.
The constitution guarantees you the right to free of speech, but not the right to be heard.
From what I understand - Microsoft has put the brakes on the Halo Editing Kit... I remember reading that somewhere. I think it had something to do with the PC/Mac version of Halo not being "more valuable" than their Xbox title by making it "modable".
I want to also predict that you will never see Halo II for the PC or Mac.....
So the next time I need to have some surgical procedure done, I'll just forgo the expense of my family doctor and head over to GameSpy and look for the highest rated Halo player out there. Now that's healthcare reform.

Yes, but Real doesn't help themselves by making it hard for people who want their player to find it. I don't think it helps anyone to constantly bemoan the advantages Microsoft has as the developer of the operating system. Perhaps Real should produce a linux port of their software (they may for all I know as I use Mac) and allow it to be distributed with every distribution of Linux... that might be a start. I have to admit, I am missing the point of comparing Microsoft, a corporation, to Nazis who gassed millions of people. Last time I checked, Microsoft had done no such thing. but I digress...

I have to say that for everything that I feel Microsoft has done wrong, they really have done pretty well by windows media player in terms of streaming content. I used Windows Media for most of the streams that have it and I'm on a Mac. I don't have to worry about pop-ups, banners, or any of the other annoying set up things that I do with RealPlayer and almost everyone is carrying a Windows Media Stream. I still think that Windows Media is inferior to iTunes for downloadable music and content, but that's another discussion.
For streaming radio and television - I really prefer windows media. Now if I could just find a way to stream windows media files from Linux....:-D
I have to admit... I've downloaded a copy of Halo just because I read the performance requirements were SO steep that I didn't want to shell out half-a-hundred bucks just to get a game I couldn't play. I'm glad I did.... My Dual G4/450 with my Radeon 9000 Pro card gets a whopping 8 FPS. How could MacSoft, Westlake or any of those guys make a game that doesn't take advantage of dual processors in dual proc systems? That's complete nonsense to me. No thanks... I'll keep playing it on my Xbox. I deleted it off my mac and tossed the CDR I burned.
If Macsoft had just provided a demo for guys like me to evaluate it on my system, I'd not have had to do that. But they won't produce a demo because they know that 80% of the existing mac market can't play the game worth a damn.
If you contest with the credit card company, MS will be required to respond. If they don't respond, you will get your money back. If they do respond (which is more likely) then they will pass along the terms of service along with the date of your renewal, the date of the charge, and the date of your phone call requesting a refund. The card company will look at all of this and compare it against your story. MS will only lose if it was deemed they did not deliver the service you were paying for (and no this does not mean that since you didn't use the service you can use a refund. If they provided the service and you didn't use it, then you still don't have a case). When you sign up for Xbox Live the burden is put on you to cancel your yearly renewal. It doesn't matter if they contacted you via email or not. Their terms clearly state the onis (sp) is on you to take the step to cancel. If you forget and don't do it, then they can't be blamed. The email reminder is a courtesy, it is not legally required.

I loved the old ACS. I still have the original for my Commodore 64 which is sitiing in storage......... WITH my commorode 64 until I find room in my house for everything:) There used to be a big club where people who made adventures could send them in and others could buy (to support the club). It was a great thing. All of the EA "Adventure Contest" winners were put in that too. I remember working with Ken St. Andre (Wasteland designer - the father game to the current Fallout series I'm told) to produce the group's newsletter and I even worked on some tools for that one.... ah.... the memories of 6502 assembly programming.
Also had really good music. I bought the version that came with the soundtrack CD as done by the band Cold. "With My Mind" is a great song.

This is just one more reason that I am glad I do not play any kind of sports game.
Reminds me of Sergent Shults on Hogan's Heroes "I KNOW NOTHING!" "I SEE NOTHING!"
