Why do so many people find fun in monotony if that is what this game is about?
I have never played it but when I always hear terms like "monotony" and "grinding" I don't think I will ever have a reason to try it.
I play Eve Online, there is so much stuff in the game and the universe is so big it will literally be years before I see it all.. if that. I am glad the game I play is fun and the people who enjoy it understand that a fun video game does not need to be built around monotony
Just because some people are willing to pay a certain price does not mean all people other than myself are willing to.
That sort of assumption just makes you seem like quite a silly person.
There are plenty of examples of product prices being cut once market saturation at a certain price point has been reached.
I am sooo sick of those "ipod killer" articles.
If some new device is shown to actually be killing the ipod.. then it will not be news.
That said, I still think there is room for growth. I think the ipod is overpriced (as mac products tend to be) and if they cut prices it would open it up to all the people who have not bought one because of the price.
One thing I notice is a lot of users post their favorite music videos.
In fact, when I get the urge to see a video from a favorite band, i search youtube rather than turn on mtv (since mtv doesnt even seem to play videos anymore)
I think it should be easy enought for them to approach the music industry and have them pay to feature music videos on the site.
allowing yourself to avoid paying for the bandwidth of hosting a lot of videos on your website.
If there was a way to have embeded videos play ads, but not the ones on the youtube site.. that might be a good solution, as people who see those videos currently don't even see the youtube text ads.
I am surprised that all slashdot can come up with so far is cultural or mathmatical solutions.
I think some sort of game would be a good idea, sorta like the crappy games in flash advertisements now days.
Make it difficult enough that it is too time consuming for spammers, but easy enough that people do not get frustrated when trying to register or post.
Ultimately I think that better filtering is probably the solution
One of my message boards has been getting spammed a bit lately, despite the CAPTCHA..
We have recently installed a mod that we can add keywords and urls to. So posts from new users are checked with this.. it needs a bit of fine tuning, but I think eventually it should get rid of most of the spam.
In addition, users can flag posts as spam which are then checked by a moderator

Many people do not yet have a need for an HDMI cable, So including one with every machine would only raise costs more on an already very expensive machine.
Carl Rove himself said "As people do better, they start voting like Republicans - unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing."
You really can't argue with Carl... go ahead and try.. you will fail.
Right.. and when the shuttle sits for sometimes days on the launch pad.. it is compeltely immune to any crazy pilots who might want to fly into it pre-launch.. cause.. you know.. that would just be way too crazy for even a crazy pilot.
Why do so many people dislike this guy?
I don't really know who he is aside from being the keyboard guy..
Based on this article, I liked what he had to say..
It's true.. YouTube got it right, and figuring out a business around it will come in time.
So long ago Napster got something right, it made it easy to do something that there was a huge demand for.
It wasn't so much that people just wanted free music. They wanted easy access to music. Later on, Apple figured out how to capitalize on it by giving people easy and cheap access to music and a slick gadget to play it on.
I think it is good that YouTube is not rushing out to see how quickly they can make money from it, they need a little time to analyze it and make sure they don't ruin what they have built.
Myspace is in a similar situation, trying to figure out how to become profitable without ruining what made it popular in the first place.
Come on.. the only reason we watched Back to the Future 2 was because we all wanted to see Marty on the hoverboard and Doc fly the DeLorean.
Anyways.. I think that sequels should be done in the way that Lord of the Rings was filmed and be done all at once. Then the sequel will likely have the same elements that made the first one so good. Of course, it is a bigger risk and unlikely that Hollywood would invest in many movies in such a way.
Yeah, I have a good grasp on how the lottery works.
And whenever I go to Vegas with friends I am the only one who ever comes back with money because the only gambling i do is the very minimum I need to put into a video poker machine to get free drinks at the bar. If i lose, well I would have spent it on drinks anyways, and if i win.. well then I got free drinks and cash.
It always makes me sad when the Powerball gets really high and I see all these people rushing out to spend hundreds of dollars on tickets.. thinking they are making an investment or that they are increasing their chances.
And back to the topic. If I had 35 million dollars. I wouldn't spend it on a space flight. I am young, I figure in another 15 or 20 years maybe the cost would be less and I will still be young enough to go up and do it.
Every week I spend a dollar on a hope and a dream and buy a powerball lottery ticket.
This week the jackpot is 116 million.
If I were to win, and take the lump sum payment which is 58 million.
Then subtract 50% for federal and state taxes which leaves me with 29 million.
not enough for the 20+15 million to go spacewalk.

My point is if the downward trend in sales continues, the easiest way to ramp up sales is to lower prices, which is likely at some point.
Right, and they will set it at that price forever and ever until the end of time.

No, the future will never be right now.

Portland, OR. is getting 134 sq miles of free wifi. Slower speeds will be ad supported, faster speeds you can pay for.
Much better sounding project than America's hat is trying for.

Slashdot was not the first large website to cause a smaller website to go offline.

Hey, the man said it was simple, deal with it.
I am sure he would be happy to explain to earthlink customers how simple it is to set up
You had sand and poo!?
We just had primordial soup, have you ever tried to write a message in soup? Keep in mind this was before alphabet soup.
I would like to kindly and forcefully demand that the media PLEASE

Please.
Thanks!
Sounds like and interesting read, I'll pick it up.
Could you provide a source for this please?
I've not been able to find anything official.. only rumors.

Awesome.. I've always wondered who originally said that.
2 options:
- We will destroy ourselves before any such singularity
- Moronic politicians will pass laws against doing AI research because it goes against gods will or something.
