I think everyone can get behind this. We have customers who have been bugging us to support Blackberry since we support iPhone and soon Android. A lot of ISVs are in the same boat. Nobody wants to deal with Blackberry, and now we can point at this downtrend and push back even harder.
He's an old, white man. Are you kidding? He probably turns it on and starts nodding his head in agreement, just like most old people do. He forfeited his Australian citizenship because he prefers our broken government.
I do quick Linux console apps in C#/Mono, as well as more complex ones using Gtk#. It's just the path of least resistance in my case. Everyone's got their "quick utility" language, and C# is very nice with its standard library.
Unless they see it as an investment that pays off in the long run. Not that any companies are run that way. But Microsoft wants Windows running on all your home devices, and ipv6 is a building block in that goal.
What are your intentions with this block of IP addresses, Microsoft? To whore them out, or help speed the adoption of ipv6 by sitting on them, or neither?
The iPad is the only device I've ever had that outlived its specified battery life, and by over 50%. Haters gonna hate, but I know what I want on an international flight.
The only reason people even want to talk to you is your tech skills. Be grateful you took 10 minutes away from your Pokemon collection to learn those skills.
This. I think about this a lot since my company is run similarly. The inner circle are smart, capable, but do not have the same spark. They can emulate the leader, think "what would the leader do?", but do not have the same X-factor that makes the leader successful.
My grandpa just got an iPad. He loves it. I convinced him after he kept bitching about his computer and how it "had a mind of its own". With the iPad, tech support requirements magically go away. You are correct in that removing the home button would deny an entire market of elderly folks, so I agree.
I've known plenty of people who will not touch seafood that is not fish. Heck, they look like big insects to me. And although you're being funny, it's an important point. You don't scream and call your husband to kill the pig that wandered in your house, but for the spider/centipede/earwig it's standard practice. Why would anyone want to put that in their mouth? So I can see insects as becoming mix-ins and enriching protein for other 'food products', there is no way anyone in the American mid-west is going to give up their steak for a grasshopper any time soon.
What I didn't explicitly say, you said better. I was mainly pointing out that the pursuit of rationality should not be the purpose of one's life, else they go insane. As I believe Kant once said, all rationality eventually leads to absurdity.
Why? What's wrong with simply striving to be a good person? To do right by others so that they will do right by you? Why do you need religion for that?
I'll just stop you there. The OP was railing against irrationality - being a good person, no matter how you subjectively define good, is going to be an irrational endeavor. Believe me, I don't want to start a debate about the nature of altruism and societal standards. Just keep in mind, your idea of 'good' ain't the next person's.
Look, I'm not saying religion is great or anything, I'm just saying that it's one of many irrational things people can tell themselves to stay sane during this confusing and irrational existence. When you trade in religion, you get something else... perhaps better or worse, I don't care that's your decision. You may argue that some things are more 'rational' to believe, and perhaps you would be correct under some circumstances - I'm not defending the Tooth Fairy here. But everybody's got a story they tell themselves.
I don't want to off-track this discussion too far, but there are a few points to make. 1. Without religious meaning, you have to give things your own meaning. That is particularly difficult. 2. Without religious acceptance (the idea that there is someone who will always love you), you may be forever chasing self-improvement to unhealthy levels. 3. Due to 1 and 2, you might just do nothing because, hey, there's no point and you'll never do it good enough.
It seems like you just got out of religion, which I know can be a huge burden and it feels like you just got out of a terrible relationship, but the freedom feeling will pass. I don't think atheism is the silver bullet to leading a successful life. Part of the reason America became so successful is because of the Protestant work ethic.
Not that I think religion is 'good' or isn't filled with self-delusion... but you have to replace that self-delusion with something probably just as irrational.
Sometimes it's not for adminning, it's for uh displaying things remotely and securely, if you know what I mean. iSSH for the iphone/ipad has X built in.

If you round up to the nearest evil number, 666,666.

control freak assholes
The very definition of Apple!
This is the saddest thing I've ever read, and it's only 8:30.

ASCII, by definition, is 7-bits. The others are 'extended' ASCII hacks and/or Latin-1. /pedant
You have access to the machine. It is your duty as a nerd to root the machine. None of this sissy nonsense.
It's because our lives are so empty and all the pretty gadgets in the world won't fix that.
Why listen to you when I can buy a new gadget?
Enterprise license.
There was already some concern over i-Doser... http://www.i-doser.com/
They claim that certain frequencies evoke certain feelings.

Actually there are flash games out there that did what Angry Birds did before Angry Birds. Those games you mentioned... not so much.

The same goes for children and mentally handicapped. They get rights when they ask for them!
