Granted, it has been quite a few years since I played, but I loved using zerg to pwn carrier rush noobs like you. Defilers + dark swarm + hydras + lurkers. I think dark swarm was one of the least understood abilities in the game. But once someone figured it out, it was quite powerful against the "air only" tactics.

  3. Re:Too little, too late. on New WoW Alliance Race Revealed · · Score: 1

Most of the bigger MMORPGS (before WoW), released new content/expansions every year, or even 6 months. It's been almost two years for WoW. That's on par for Blizzard. They take their time, but they do things right. It's their philosophy. And it seems to work. Even though it's a painful wait.

Thankfully, I didn't play for the first year. I'm only 6 months into the game.

I'm gonna second your comments here. I've played just about every single MMORPG out there. My all time favorite is DAoC. Nothing has come close to it's PvP. Three sides, with semi-permanent objectives. If there was one flaw, it would have to be the out of control damage. It can be fun to kill someone with two nukes. But it sucks to be on the receiving end.

I'm really looking to Warhammer. Mythic will be able to use their years of MMORPG and PvP/RvR experience to make a great game.

Dungeon Keeper has soooooooooooo much potential. It's a shame it was never expanded upon. Evil Genius was nice, but I *hated* the world map. You had to constantly flip back to it every 15 seconds in case the super agents appeared. It felt tacked on to add difficulty when all it did was frustrate. Some kind of warning would have been welcome. But all you got was a number that flashed AFTER you had lost your men. If I still programmed for fun (instead of for a living), I would make a DK type game.

EA is going to gobble up Mythic. Unverified, but Mythic is small, lost a lot of money on Imperator, and is vulnerable to buyout.
Mythic did not lose a lot of money on Imperator. They hadn't spent *that* much effort on it. And what they did create (technology wise) is being used for Warhammer.

I've played all the MMORPGs out there. Nothing comes close to Dark Age of Camelot. Well maybe WoW does. But WoW loses out on the end game.

The thought that EA will buy out Mythic makes me very sad. I can only imagine the following:

"We need to cancel Warhammer so we don't lose DAoC subscribers. It's better to slowly bleed subscriptions than it is to innovate and move forward."

A couple of clones came out shortly after. Eye of the Beholder series (which was decent). And Black Crypt... an awesome (if short) Dungeon Master clone.

Years later, I found out Dungeon Master II was being released for the Sega Genesis CD-ROM with mouse. I bought the entire system specifically to play DM2. Unfortunately, DM2 was a piece of crap. Boy was I burned.

I'd add to the criticism of Poser. It has the most annoying interface ever developed. Half the screen is filled with a gradient. The actual work space is only allocated 25% of the screen. I had one of the first nForce 4 / AMD64 boards. For weeks I couldn't figure out why I kept getting disconnected from Dark Age of Camelot. DAoC is a rock stable program. Their servers are 100%. I have 7 other computers running DAoC through the same network connection that perform flawlessly. It had to be something with the computer. After dozens of tweaks, rebuilds, driver reinstalls... It came down to the onboard network hardware and/or drivers. I ended up buying a cheap network card. The disconnects have almost stopped. But ocassionally DAoC will still crash or disconnect. I wouldn't recommend nForce 4 to anyone at this point.

When I moved over to Windows 95, my first project was going to be an icon editor. Then I realized that icons in Windows suck. Such tiny little things. Sigh.

But seriously, the best icon editor I've found on Windows is the one built into Visual C++ 6. It's straight forward and no-frills. Very easy to use. And it's included for free as part of my line of work.

I tried some of the shareware crap out there. $20 to 50$ for some of the buggiest, confusing P.O.S. programs out there. Micheangelo in particular was VERY confusing to me. But everyone recommends it.
