This franchise isn't just old, it's stale...Wake me up when they get something not over half a decade old.
Sure, it might be a little old (though I'm not so sure what makes it stale...) but sometimes showing something good that's a little older is better than showing crap that's new. Afterall it hasn't been broadcast here in the States (as far as I know) so for many people it is new. It's like the terrible NBC slogan "If you haven't seen it, it's new to you"
I don't know how many of you are actually bothering to download and try it out, but it is really awesome. I have no use for it, but the control is incredible and everything moves smoothly. Enter in an address and you'll zoom out and travel over to the new location and zoom in.
I really recommend trying this out, even if you're not interested in things like this or have a use for it. Seriously!
When you're skipping commercials on TiVo, you're basicall just watching the normal commecials wiz by really quickly, right? So let's say that in addition to that a banner ad shows up on the top and bottom (kind of like letterbox, but with ads instead of black bars). You're still going to be watching the action fast-forward by until your show comes back on, at which point you return to normal play mode and the ads go away.
The only inconvenience I see this causing is missing your cue because you're paying attention to an ad. But even then, big deal. You lost 10 seconds to rewind again. You still save the time skipped by the commercials. I don't think it's the advertisements as much as the time that they absorb during the show anyway.
Boy how you'd get that one wrong if you'd put money on it. I'm an extremely principled person
Principled like you would do something illegal (whether you knew or not is irrelevant) and then, after it being defined illegal in court (so now there is no question as to whether you know or not), not change? I don't see how that's principled. It sounds more like your stubborn.
I don't view that as being unprincipled, or playing both sides. I think it's more a case of adapting to circumstance. He put a lot of time and work into Napster, something that he believed in. And now he thinks that this technology can be improved and utilized in a way beneficial to both the record labels and the consumers. What's so wrong with that? He's not selling out, he's changing his approach. His old approach was deemed illegal. I don't think he's selling out by transforming an illegal good idea into a legal good idea.
From the whole "napster" thing, to the nonsense in The Italian Job...
First of all, why put napster in quotes like it is some sort of imaginary thing? And second, you're upset because a movie made a crack at a piece of pop culture?
Napster was a huge deal at the time. And since the case ended, with the exception of the Italian Job reference, what else is so incredibly over-exposed about Napster that warrants bitching about being tired of it? And I also wouldn't describe him as "pimping himself out to both sides of the fence". He had a great idea and he went with it. So he had the choice of either sticking to his guns and having nothing or agreeing to play by the rules. I doubt that you'd do otherwise.
I think it's aiming to fill the P2P networks with licensed music. This is the kind of music that you get from iTunes or Napster that can't be played without proper authorization. They don't care if you spread those files around, because they are useless.
And, they are probably actually a good promotion. You can look at all these files that you aren't able to listen to, and you might be more likely to subscribe to a all-you-can-eat service like Napster to unlock all of these files...
I haven't ever played this game, but I feel like the selling point is that you can be any super hero you want. Whether this super hero that you choose to be is completely original or a rip-off of your favorite hero should be up to you.
If you go to any MMORPG there are gonna be ripoffs like that. I don't think that's wrong. These games are made to create a fantasy world that you can live and interact in. It's your fantasy, you should get to make the rules.
The only way that Marvel would have a case is if Cryptic were using actual characters which they (Cryptic, not the players) are clearly not doing.
For the past few releases, I haven't been able to do anything Yahoo with Firefox. I've looked and looked but haven't been able to find anybody else who's having this problem. Both of my bosses, however, have the same problem. And this happens on my work and home computers, so it can't possibly be just me... can it?
For example, if I go to mail.yahoo.com, all I get is the Yahoo Mail logo on a white page. That's it!
Has anybody else had this problem, or know how to fix it?
This might explain the shift over time. Like ballots, it takes time to process polling data. Early polling data get processed early and is made available early.
I thought networks weren't supposed to reveal exit polling numbers until the next day for that very reason. It seems like I saw exit polling numbers that did show a Kerry lead in the swing states, but now I can't find where they were. (I didn't look for very long...) I'm not suggesting that they were changed, I'm just saying that I saw what I saw.
> Mentioning the gay marriage thing I find it amazing that a state like Mississippi which voted to ban gay marriage by huge majority still had a comparably close race for president. So it must be something else.
You'd think the two would be related, but they're not. Kerry and Bush are for marriage being for "a man and a woman". And, here in Michigan, the vote for a constitutional ban on gay marriage passed by a pretty large majority despite being a Kerry state.
There's a lot of republican spin on Kerry's flip-flopping. He's actually been pretty consistent, AT LEAST as consistent as the current administration. As for Bush's tax plan (which I happen to disagree with) you would still be benefitting from it, and your taxes would not go up unless you're in the highest tax bracket at which point you can afford it. I don't care if it's not fair that you pay more, the bottom line is that we need taxes to run the country and if you can afford to pay more, then you should. Kerry's not planning on giving more tax cuts to the middle and lower class, Bush is. So, as you said, how will they benefit from that?
And throwing in "and everything else" is pretty weak. Here's how I see it: you agree with the war. Fine, so do I. But the rest of your argument I don't buy. Not at all.
No matter how you slice it, he won this election. Electorally, popular vote, plurality of states, plurality of precincts, plurality of counties.
Two things... First of all, why even bring up plurality of states, plurality of precincts, plurality of couties? If any of those were an accurate measure, then you would have the sparse republican population spread throughout the western and southern states deciding every single time. You'd have a low percentage of the population deciding who leads everybody.
So that leaves us with the popular vote and the electoral vote. "Any way you slice it.." between those two votes, Bush wins. Would your opinion be different if there wasn't a winner "Any way you slice it"? Like in 2000 when Gore won the popular vote, but Bush "won" the electoral vote?
When you're talking about arrays, lists, queues, etc. they all have their advantages and disadvantages. You're right that arrays are the most versatile and that you can use them anywhere that you'd use a list. But if you're talking about a relatively small set of data where you won't be searching for items based on their position (i.e. item number 12345) then a list can give you the same functionality and performance.
It might not be to difficult to implement the same functions using arrays, but it's still not as simple as just including a library.
I think you're missing the point of the comment. If, on your resume, you state that you are an "expert programmer" then you should probably be able to handle adding an item to a singly linked list in the language of your choice.
If you can't spit out code, then maybe you should use terminology more like "strong understanding of programming concepts" rather than "expert programmer".
..stealth to the back of the cave?
(on Slashdot, we're seeing them as like 6% of our page traffic now)
This is like 6% bonus damage on the Slashdot effect. Eat it, servers!
Ermm... I think it's more that the overwhelming population of online gamers are probably male. There just aren't enough girls to go around.

Haha, yea... agreed. I was just showing it to my boss and I was saying "If I could only find a way to justify spending $30/yr on this..."
I don't know how many of you are actually bothering to download and try it out, but it is really awesome. I have no use for it, but the control is incredible and everything moves smoothly. Enter in an address and you'll zoom out and travel over to the new location and zoom in.

Wouldn't taxing gasoline accomplish the same thing? If you tax gas, then you're effectively taxing people based on the amount that they drive.
look at Half-Life 2. It's just DOOM with better graphics.
Blasphemy!
> "rendering the GBA one of the most cool digital gadgets for musicians that travel a lot. "
> Nothing says Rock Star or Street Thug like a GameBoy.
I'm failing to make the connection between "cool digital gadgets for musicians that travel a lot" with rock star and street thug.

I think this could be the first step towards a system were the artist get the money they deserve.
And this is a bad idea because... ?
I think they're not ready yet. This will be another story on another day...

It's not just me that lost, or Kerry, or all Democrats. With 4 more years of Bush, we all lose.
