    It would depend on the file name you sent. Tax-return2006.pdf would be more tempting than temp_file.txt.

    and put nonreplaceable valuables in a good safe (backups, passports, certs etc) - mark it "No cash in here - documents only".

    There is good money to be made in identity theft, although there are much easier ways than breaking and entering.

    ... and because banks are so conscious of their bottom lines, they usually don't improve things if they are already working.

    So that is why a multi-billion dollar bank still keeps the pens on chains at the counter!

    That and vendor lock in. It would cost too much to change, especially when you would have to change over between the bank closing on Friday and opening on Monday.

    What were your acrobat 8 problems? I am going to be running Vista Business on a work computer (At least I will be as soon as dell sends the disk.) to test all our software and many of our internal docs are in .pdf format (don't ask, not my choice).

    Now, a question for you. If you manage to pull together a significant and interesting cross-section of early PC history, how are you handling security? Consider that some of these systems were actually small enought to carry out in a coat, and many of the systems may be valuable enough to consider smash-n-grab.

    Good luck in running away with that Osbourne "portable". I might even take a nap before chasing you down. :)

    Most of the time people just have personal documents in a safe deposit box. While they are important to the owner, these are worth very little if anything to a thief. That is not to say that Aunt Mildred didn't put $2.1 million worth of diamond jewels in the box, but good luck finding that one box that has anything worth stealing in it.

    Safe deposit boxes usually have dual locks that must be drilled to open if the customer misplaces the key, so it would be quite difficult to quickly steal anything from them.

    Why would you want to get into the vault? The amount of money a bank keeps on-hand is very small, and the penalty for getting caught is huge.

    If you can get into the bank's internal network, you can get all sorts of information. Identity theft can net more money without the risk.

    I would also add that the time sink in Guildwars is much less. As a 30 something gamer with a family, I can't put in 6 hours a night to grind or even complete a mission. The henchmen system where you can take a NPC instead of a real person eliminates the need to try and get a group together. I can group with one or two other real people, with the rest henchman, and complete most missions in thirty min. to an hour.

    The problem comes from the fact that a lot of e-mail viruses use a person's personal contact list to send itself. My wife would never open an attachment from a strange address, but if it looked like it were coming from me with the title "Kids pictures" I am pretty sure it would get opened.
