Because we know that ANY OS is insecure if it is not properly hardened. What may be of value is for someone to figure out how to harden OS X and then toss that computer on the net and see if it gets hacked. If it doesn't get hacked, feed the method for hardening the computer back to Jobs and company and see if it ends up as part of a future OS update.
......That Apple is letting people outside it's organization be coders and beta testers to get OS X security issues out of their distro. Then they'll annouce that they've "magically" hardened the OS to make it less crackable so they can continue to rake in the profits from selling hardware.
But that's likely my tinfoil conspiracy hat talking.
"It doesn't take a Stanford MBA to deduce that the potential rewards of opting to use FairPlay far outstrip the rewards of going with PlaysForSure"
That assumes that FairPlay continues to be the standard. Microsoft could do something really radical such as embrace a DRM model that is more consumer friendly than FairPlay while keeping the record companies happy. If that happens, it doesn't matter how much mindshare Apple has. They're screwed and they're the ones who will be throwing chairs.
The tollgate strategy endorsed by BellSouth (and SBC too) is a misguided and uncreative attempt to recoup the loss of local telephone revenue as consumers leave for cablecos and VoIP service providers such as Vonage. If the carriers were smart, they'd realize the "pipe" to consumers has plenty of room to be leveraged financially. It's okay if carriers don't get a piece of every single piece of action because the more consumers rely on broadband service, the more open they will be paying for higher speeds and quality of service. As well, carriers can sell their own services and work with partners on a revenue-share basis. It makes the tollgate strategy seem extremely short-sighted.
Dude! You're getting a Alien!
...... use this as another reason to Open iTunes!
Because people who got burned in VHS vs. Beta are going to sit this one out until a format "wins."

Perhaps a more complete review will change my opinion.
